Poorly Managed
I decided to give Butler's another chance after a miserable first experience there. (I walked off the Lakeside course after 8 holes because we were on pace for a 3-hour front 9 my first trip). I played the Woodside course this time and had the exact same experience. I walked off after the 9th hole because I was at the 3-hour mark waiting to hit. I would have left after hole 4 but didn’t want to disrupt others driving back. At the opening tee box, there were 4 groups waiting just to start it was so backed up. If you're going to have tee times 6 minutes apart at least have a ranger on the course to speed up the pace of play. My guess is they know the pace is going to be poor and just avoid the chaos all together after they get your money. The course looked like it hasn’t been mowed in quite some time, almost like they have given up on it for the season. Bunkers were either a small lake or a rock pit, simply unplayable. None of the greens had the same feel at all. The tee boxes were the most concerning, it was like hitting in short rough if you wanted to use anything besides a driver. It was sad because the layout seemed like a course I would have enjoyed. I’m very disappointed I gave this course another chance and wish I paid $10 more to go anywhere else. Unless you’re playing with a 4 some who doesn’t mind a 6-hour round I would highly suggest avoiding this place. This is the first course I’ve ever been critical with, but it’s obvious they are just about the $ and could care less about your experience.
Kidney Transplant
Cart paths are horrendous.... worst I have ever seen in my life. The entire facility needs repaved, looks like russia bombed every golf cart path,.
Options
Awesome facility. Good range. 2 courses to choose from. Aerated some of the greens and fairways. But fun and adequate for practice rounds.
Fall Golf
Course was in good to excellent condition. However, due to popularity, numerous ball marks on the greens. Tees and fairways in great shape. The use by management of a ranger to encourage slower players along or to yield to faster groups would be appreciated to eliminate 4+ hour rounds.
Slow Play
The course conditions were good - tee boxes and fairways well maintained. The greens are in good shape but slow to putt. The largest negative was pace of play for a round starting mid day. There were back to back groups of fivesomes a few groups ahead of us. They played incredibly slow and had the entire golf course backed up all afternoon. There was no starter to monitor this from the beginning and no rover to check on progress of play. Very frustrating to be behind that all day!
Course condition
The course wasn't in the best condition lot of dry weather this year fairways was hard as a rock greens were fast as can be
Nice layout
Excellent course to play. Our favorite course to play each year.
No money put into this course
Really bad condition. If you like to have your inners jarred driving from hole to, this is the course for you. Fairways and cart paths in terrible condition. Greens not to bad. No money has been put back into this course. I used to enjoy this course, but now it’s painful. I’ll not play in the future.
BogieGolf90 - We regret you endured this experience. Our guess is this review is based on an round on Sunday, 7/30. Unusual weather the previous two days with over 4 inches of recorded rainfall caused 2 courses near us to close for the day, one of which had 36 holes. Their closure led to a very high influx of customers. Although our intervals are 8 minutes apart, managing pace of play with such a high volume of players on a wet golf course is extremely difficult, particularly when you don't expect that much play. The heavy rains prevent some regular course maintenance and result in conditions that may not meet your expectations. We would like to speak more specifically about your experience if you're open to it. Feel free to call Joe, the GM, at 412-751-9121 and reference this review.
