Rock River Country Club
About
Playing Rock River County Club in Waupun is like getting to play two golf courses in one. The course originally opened in 1927 as a nine-holer but was renovated and lengthened in the 1980s but the front nine wasn't added until 2004. Only a few holes remained from the original nine-hole course, but they play just as they did in the 20s. The newer front nine has a link-style design that demands accuracy off the tee with 29 sand traps strategically placed throughout the nine holes. There are a variety of other hazards as well. As you move onto the back nine, the golf course's character changes completely. The holes have a traditional design and they are much more wooded with mature trees framing almost every hole, just waiting to knock down an errant tee shot or missed approach.

Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Wisconsin (2015 #14)
Reviews
Great conditions
Played this course for the first time and was very impressed with condition of the course. Fairways were lush and soft, greens were perfect and quite challenging, and the rough was cut precisely and reflects outstanding attention to detail. The course is difficult, rating is 71.8/131 from the white tees, but they have a "combo" tee option using white and gold tees, which rates a respectable 69.7/124.
Some housekeeping notes for golf advisor: the course has changed it's name to The Rock Golf Club. It is not private and it is not open for golf all year.
Fun Day
I purchased the discounted round and was excited to play this new (to me) course with 2 friends on our way to a Men's Retreat for the weekend. I was disappointed to learn (after we got to the course) that the front 9 was closed due to too much rain. I don't hold anyone responsible for that, as the decision might have had to be made that morning, but it was disappointing to play the back 9 twice when we would have gone somewhere else had we known. We still had a fun day and the young lady in the clubhouse was very kind and engaging.
Decent Place to Play
Course is in good shape , you will enjoy
Great shape
Course is in excellent condition one of the nicest courses I have played this year. Definitely worth booking a tee time and playing.
Best greens in the state
I always enjoy golfing this course because of how nice the greens are. I've golfed many different courses across the state and these are some of the best greens around. This course will challenge you in many different ways and is always a course I find myself shooting higher than usual on. I always look forward to the challenge of golfing here
Decent value for the money
A buddy and I hit the place on a Thursday morning. Quiet day, a bunch of older members out but no one slowing play. Course was in great shape and it was an amazing value at $25! It's not in our backyard but only a 30 min. drive, having said that, there are nicer courses closer, but we wanted to try something new and for the price, it was worth the drive to check it out. I did get the vibe that you might not
Atale of two nines.
A links style on the first nine going into a wooded second nine. This course gave you the best of both worlds. I would definitely play this course again.
This course is very difficult
This course was fun for experienced players, however that being said I am very experienced and it literally was too hard to get away from the trees. On the course the trees made the back nine almost little to no fun to play. Great shape the course is in I just thing it should be trimmed a bit. Holes that wrap all the way around with no chance to hit a long iron even make it very hard to score well or under par.
Great Course
Great course overall. The two nines are completely different, which make it fun to play. My only gripe about the course is it is really hard to find your yardage. it would be nice to at least have a marker at the 150 yard mark
Fun Course to play
First time on the course, The weather was Sunny on the cooler side, making the ground somewhat harder even on the fairways. First nine reminded me of the Straits, very open with rolling hills and the high grass. The back nine reminded me of Pinewood very scenic with the trees, slightly rolling hills. Overall it was a great experience. Will definitely try to get back there again. Staff and everyone were very friendly, looked as though the pro shop was being worked on, but looked promising.
Awesome Golf Course
Always enjoy playing at Rock River - The course is very well maintained, staff are friendly, and each round is challenging and fun. Thank you again for great experience :)
Great Value.
We (4-some) did 18/riding. It rained most of nite and into morning, but stopped a few hrs. before we teed off, so course was somewhat wet in spots and temps were kinda cool, and some wind. Leaves made finding the ball a problem, but we played the "leaf rule". However, it turned out to be a nice day, and being on the golf course is always better than the alternative. Staff was very friendly and all-in-all, we had a great time. Course is in great shape for fall. Can't beat the price.
this course has excellent diversity between front and back nines
I am a 'discount golfer' in other words I like to play for around $30 max for 18 with cart. but I will not play at lower grade courses even if there is a great deal. rock river c.c is always a treat when they have there specials. lot of water on the front nine makes it challenging and the woods on back nine demand a straight tee shot. the only drawback playing on 9/25 was they aeriated the greens several days prior. on a few putts that normally would've gone in lipped because of it. but all in all for $25 it still is definatly worth it.
Spotted three deer on the course!
Had a great time! Weather was very hot. Greens were extremely fast, but first started mid afternoon
Rock River Review
Great course for the money!
$25.00 with cart.
Cart broke down in front of 10th green had to call clubhouse to get someone out..
Took at least 10-15 minutes and they came out in maintenance cart, so they had to go back and get me a replacement.
In all I had a very enjoyable time and would go back
Excellent course, price was right, friendly staff
We played this course on a Saturday afternoon. Staff was friendly and courteous. Nice facilities and restrooms. Course was in excellent condition, Front nine played easier than back nine. Back nine had established trees and was a great challenge. Would definitely recommend to other golfers in the area! Price was great and pace of play was perfect. Thanks Rock River Country Club for the fun vacation golf!
Frustrated at the turn
Golf course in excellent shape true and fast greens and more than a few three putts for the boys. Had issue with clubhouse our group had very good pace on front and once we got to back there was a foursome ahead of us that were sitting in bar and they let them go out. It was a very disappointing back nine, but the day was so beautiful just tried to enjoy the time there. Would highly recommend this course to anybody looking for a challenging place to play.
Fast greens, pristine condition
Can't say enough about the condition of the course.Tee boxes, fairways and greens were excellent. Unfortunately we got stuck behind an outing that day. This course is worth every penny. Tough layout so bring your A game.
Didn't play
Went to Horicon Hills (new name) by mistake.
Called Waupun to cancel.
