Rock River Country Club
About
Playing Rock River County Club in Waupun is like getting to play two golf courses in one. The course originally opened in 1927 as a nine-holer but was renovated and lengthened in the 1980s but the front nine wasn't added until 2004. Only a few holes remained from the original nine-hole course, but they play just as they did in the 20s. The newer front nine has a link-style design that demands accuracy off the tee with 29 sand traps strategically placed throughout the nine holes. There are a variety of other hazards as well. As you move onto the back nine, the golf course's character changes completely. The holes have a traditional design and they are much more wooded with mature trees framing almost every hole, just waiting to knock down an errant tee shot or missed approach.

Better than expected
With the spring weather we've had wasn't sure what the conditions were going to like since half of the course is built on the marsh. However to our surprise the conditions were very good. The greens were in outstanding condition and putted true and fast. The fairways were in good condition, some winter kill but not enough to upset any one.
What is interesting about this course is the two distinct styles that are encountered, one a true links style layout the other very traditional with lots of trees, and narrow fairways along with doglegs both right and left.
The value we received for what we paid was worth the 1 hour drive. We'll go back again in the future.
Nice mix of links style and woods course. Tricky fast greens.Very nice condition.
The course is little long for most women and hi handicap amateurs. The rough is cut long, easy to loose balls. Fairways narrow but very nice. Plenty of places to get in trouble.
Course seems to plays longer then yardage indicated.
