Cold Water Canyon Golf Course at Chula Vista Resort
About
Cold Water Canyon Golf Course in the Wisconsin Dells has a layout that dates back to the 1920s, making it one of the oldest golf courses in the state. Originally a nine-hole course, it was expanded to a full 18 holes but the original layout was carefully preserved as the front nine. The back nine offers a completely different round with a Scottish-links design, however it manages to blend seamlessly with the classic layout of the first nine. Water hazards come into play on a few holes and there are strategically placed bunkers to contend with as well. The second half of Cold Water Canyon Golf Course is more challenging than the front but both are equally scenic. The golf course and the adjoining Chula Vista Resort are tucked away amidst thick forests of mature trees.

Great golf
Very nice great staff food and drinks high price but all in all nice place
Challenging course
Although the course was only 6,100 from the back tees, expect to be challenged throughout. Fairways and greens in very good condition. Several of the greens are dime sized and/or sloped which further explains the need for concentration.
Early Season no crowds
Special thank you to four guys on the first tee, as they let let my wife and I play ahead. Course is now in great shape and with the jump start we finished in three hours. Tourist season is soon upon us and speed golf will be behind us.
Early season un-repaired ball marks
I’ve played this course over a hundred times in the last 50 some years. Value with GolfNow in April is unbelievable. This is a resort course for out of state players. In season price is too high for regulars. Today some yahoo left un-repaired divots on many greens. I follow the fix yours and a couple of others philosophy. Today, mine were barely noticeable. At the turn, I mentioned this to the attendant. After the round I showed a photo from the back nine that looked like the person stepped on the ball. Who does this, especially in early season?
A very fun course in Wisconsin Dells Area
Coldwater Canyon (Chula Vista) is a tale of two nines and both are as much fun as they are different. The front nine is short and tight as it winds through the canyon with lots of very specific types of shots required to score well. The course is always maintained well and the greens, while fairly small have lots of tricky, almost invisible breaks and slope. Pay special attention to the par 3 holes on the front nine, they can be tricky. Be straight off the tee on the par 4’s and 5’s of you’ll be losing balls in the thick trees and deep canyons.
The back nine is more links style and much more open to slightly off-line shots. But don’t relax too much, the thick native grass areas and water hazards are well placed to challenge your club selection. I really enjoy playing this course and have been for years.
Very friendly staffs and fairways and greens were well maintained, had good round..
