Challenging and Amazing Course – Rude Ranger Roy
We drove 3+ hours to play this course as a destination get away weekend to close out the golf season. Since the weather conditions were rainy and wet, the clubhouse informed us to stay 90º and cart path on all the par 3s. When you tee off the starter gives you a sheet that provides you pace of play with times you should be at those holes. In addition to your written sheet, you also have cart GPS that provides you with expected pace of play.
Our group was playing 10-11 minutes above pace and a ranger approached our group and in a very rude tone told us we better pick-up our pace because we were 2 holes behind the group in front of us. I started to politely tell him that the group in front of us was a twosome and we were a foursome playing 10 minutes above our required pace based on our sheet…I tried to show him my sheet and point that out and he gave us a dirty look and he just drove off while I was trying to talk to him.
When you pay higher green fees, you expect to enjoy yourself but also understand you don’t want to slow any groups behind you so they can likewise enjoy their round. The course is very challenging but even so, we ended up finishing our round in 3 hours and 36 minutes (14 minutes prior to clubhouse expected finish). I did let the clubhouse know about our experience with Ranger Roy but they didn’t really seem to care. In the end, we decided to eat somewhere else after our round and we canceled our following days tee time and played Trappers Turn instead.
If you haven’t played Trappers Turn located right down the road from Wild Rock you’re in for a treat! The course layout is amazing and will require you to use every club in your bag. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is excellent! Check out their website: https://www.trappersturn.com/. Our group had a blast and we’re glad we moved our tee time from Wild Rock over to Trappers Turn. We can’t wait to come back next year!
Fun course
Played the course in April at the beginning of the season. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Lots of elevation changes with several fun holes to play. I play this course at least once every year and never miss it.
A fun xcourse . Very good condition late in year, one green had a dead area due to past standing water. A lot of variety in holes, dogleg right, dogleg left, up hill, down hill - FUN
Son in laws and grandson
We played October 27, last warm day of the year although cooled substantially while we played. Course was in great shape considering it had received multiple inches of rain. Cart path only made us a little slow but. It bad. Great day
Cart Path Only
The course closes for the season next week and they still had cart path only for carts. A little frustrating especially when yardage isn’t accurate at the cart. I had 40-50 yard differences from cart to ball and carrying 3-4 clubs plus yardage finder plus umbrella was tiresome
Great Course
Fun and challenging for a medium golfer. Long holes, a lot of hills and valleys. Well taken care of.
New to golfing
It was my first time at wild rock golf course. Wasn’t sure what to expect but I was overly happy with how I did on the extremely challenging course. The day started off, sunny with a slight wind and progressively, got windier and a little cooler. Pace of play was fairly good coming across a few groups of four that slowed the pace down. I will definitely come back for redemption.
No rules.
Beautiful golf course and it is in great shape. However we got behind a slow five some and they were kind enough to let us play through and then believe it or not we got trapped behind a nine some of golfers. It was very frustrating. I got so frustrated that I called the pro shop to have someone come out and help us get by them. Someone did come out and we were allowed to play through but the first nine took close to 3 hours to play. After we passed the nine some was still allowed to play as a big group. I wouldn’t expect to pay that price for green fees to golf a course that allows such ridiculously large groups to play. If the course wasn’t so nice I would have probably walked off the course and asked for a refund
Fun Fall Day
The course was in great condition and was challenging as always.
This course could be great
Love the course. My only beef is with the pin placement. Come on Wild Rock, we are not PGA Tour Pros! The speed of the greens make some of these putts impossible. Also, your prices for food and drink need to be lowered, especially during the non summer months. Other than that, I always enjoy it. Great scenery.
Wild Rock
Great course layout and views. One of favorite in Wisconsin and would rank higher except for the greens. Try getting you ball close on green eight when the pin is in the lower bowel. Way too many undulations, it just note a fair play on the greens.
Fast greens
Awesome true rolling greens cold windy day but still was a fun time. Course was in great shape like always.
Great course
Played for 1st time there. Played white tees at about 6400 yards offered a great challenge. Played every iron in the bag which I like. Staff was great and pace was steady. Will definitely keep this course on the list to play again
Great course w/ little concern for pace of play
Great layout, quick greens with lots of undulation and tough pin placements.
Pace of play was poor - waited every shot from 4th hole on. We didn't see a Marshall until the 14th hole and when we said it was SLOW, he asked if we were having fun - did nothing to move the group in front of us along, even though they were a full hole behind the group in front of them.
