Great Staff
You can't have a bad time at meadowbrook. The staff are all very friendly. Course has a great layout.
needs some work
Greens need a little tlc. Fairways have a little too much hardpan.
Needs Major Attention
The greens were in poor condition, the amount of winter debris on the course needs attention. Alot more attention needs to be accomplished with the overall quality of the grass on the "golf course". Many more trees need to be removed to allow sun and air access to the tees and greens. The sand traps should not be left out as they could use a good going over also.
Worth the 10 bucks
Meabowbrook is definitely at the lower end of the conditions spectrum with golf courses. The fairways are a disaster, they don't blow any of the leaves or pine needles, the greens are like the bright side of the moon, and all of the bunkers were unkempt and impossible to shot out of. Basically, there are very few signs that this place hasn't been completely abandoned.
The bar had a decent pour on the whiskey.
I'll go back because the price is right. Hopefully they can get a little initiative to do some of the little things (rake sand, blow leaves) and fix the greens.
Liked it very much
I had to drive from Venice to Savannah so I looked for a place to play 18 to break it up and Meadowbrook, just off 75, fit the bill.
I've seen mixed reviews on this course and don't get it. The course was very playable and just delightful. Lots of woods, some water, some hills...cool layout, IMO.
The 17th hole is beautiful and I like how each hole has a name that succinctly describes it (the 17th is named "Augusta").
It was interesting that I could remember every hole when I thought about it later that night. Usually I can remember about half the holes on a new course but this one had a lot of distinctive holes (6, 13 and 15 also stand out).
Very underrated course IMO.
What ca. I say?
I've seen it in worse shape, the weather was great and the course was wide open. Not worth playing unless you are just killing time and it's close. Too bad, the track is OK and the location is great.
golf
fun for the money, not much water to worry about. Some fairways were narrow and sloped, the weather was perfect for Feb.
Gopher track through the green
The condition of the course was horrible. The fairways lacked full coverage of grass, but had an abundance of weeds. It caddy shack fashion, there was a gopher trench running through one of the greens on the front nine. The only saving grace of the course was the gentleman running the pro shop. He was as nice as could be. Other than the friendly staff, there is no reason to play this course.
This Course is AWSOME
Now that I'm retired from the military I had more time to play and for a biginner like me I did really like this course. It's clean cut and the maintenance crew is always around improving the course.
Great for the money
Decent course. I play here all the time and being a college student their prices can't be beat. Greens could use quite a bit of work as well as the bunkers. Very right course so you won't be using the driver a lot. Staff is always friendly and the beer is always cold
Good course overall
Greens in great shape compared to last year with the rain this year. My only complaint is that there are patches of different types of grass on most fairways and so the it needs some maintenance but very friendly and great value for the money and i play here often so overall is a fun course to play.
A great value.
The greens were the best since my last refusal to play this course 5years ago. The fairways and buckers needs some more TLC in order to classified as a prestine experience.
really needs maintenanace
This golf course is very challenging with very narrow fairways. Bu the thing is, it needs a lot of attention. Overgrown rough. Putting green is like putting in the primary cut green. They need to blow the leaves, pine needles, lots of them.
Not your typical Florida course
I had a great time playing Meadowbrook for the first time. The rolling hills and elevated tee boxes transports you to a Carolina feel. My feelings may not be totally objective due to my relative success playing the course. Several blind dogleg holes makes it quite an adventure for the new golfer. Just shoot to the markers and you will play well. The amount of weed growth on the greens is the reason I didn't rate it four stars.
Greens beat up; too expensive without hot deal
I have played Meadowbrook 4-5 times this Fall season with varying satisfaction. The first couple times I played (before they got new carts and jacked up the prices) the staff was not very friendly and I experienced one instance where the office closed early and they lied to us about getting a raincheck on the back 9 because of closing time. The staff has never been directly mean or dismissive; however they did lie to my buddy and me on this one occassion that was very disappointing.
In the last few visits, however, I have experienced no problems with staff and the new carts are very nice. Unfortunately, nice carts can't fix the terrible greens. Meadowbrook's greens are arguably the slowest greens in town, and are in terrible condition. Multiple holes I played (every time# had large white sand patches and unruly grass on the greens. The bunkers haven't had fresh sand in years. And, you could hit a tee shot dead center on hole 10 and some others and still lose it in the grass.
All that being said, the course is actually well designed with some very clever, fun, and challenging holes. I plan on playing most of my rounds there simply to save money #college kid over here) because they have nice afternoon deals on golfnow that are definitely worth the price. However, DO NOT pay full retail price for a round a MB. If you can snag one of the deals on here for $8-12, then definitley go for it. The course is fun to play just not kept to a high standard. However, I would highly warn against playing the course for full price. Definitely not worth that much money. For that price, play at Ironwood or UF's Bostick course if you're student, faculty, or alumni.
This course is overall fun to play
It is the middle of summer in Fl. with that said this course is a delight to play
Only would play for Golfnow online deal
Tee boxes need attention and greens have alot of cabbage growing from them that needs to be cut out and fairway grass is to high; but the staff is great thats there.
Great design, horrid condition.
This was the first time I ever stopped after 3 holes and demanded my money back. It is not an exaggeration to say that my back yard is a more playable golf course. I love the layout and think this place could be a real gem, but the condition is the worse I have ever seen in any course, EVER. With so few options when I visit Gainesville, I wish they would really fix this place up, but it would take a LOT at this point. A real shame.
Growing grass is a challenge...
The course is in poor condition...no grass on the tees and the greens aren't much better. The staff was terrific and the carts are new but the course is another matter. The grass is normally thinner this time of year (Nov) but there are so many trees, the grass probably sees very little sunlight. There are a handful of playable holes but several on the back nine are just plain silly.
My afternoon at Meadowbrook
The course was in fair condition for this time of year. The greens were over seeded and were coming along great (still a few that needed a little more attention). Overall condition about a six on a scale of 1-10. Great value for the money and yes I would play it again
