Need to delay tee times when outing is held the same day
We were going to be delayed for 30 plus minutes due to a shotgun outing still coming off 18 and needing to play holes 1 and 2. After 10 minutes and several other groups coming in from all over the course, I requested to start on 10 as nobody was on the hole nor was anyone coming up the 9th hole. The young gentleman giving out cart keys obliged and we started 10 minutes after our tee time. Pace of play was great as we had the entire back nine to ourselves, played a little slower on the front as we finally caught groups.
Fast greens
Greens were super fast…. Not used to that so I had a terrible time and a horrible score
What a gem
Course was an amazing example of early architecture. Greens were an absolute joy. I’ll be playing there every time I’m in the area. Condition was excellent.
Must Play for Bill Langford Fans
This Langford and Moreau course is almost untouched with only the 5th hole not being original and the original green is still there abandoned. Course flows well over mostly flat terrain. The signature Langford and Moreau greens are the strength of the course and several have to be seen to be believed.
Midwest gem
Layout, course conditions, amenities are all excellent.
This course is for the intermediate to advanced golfer.
If this course was closer, it would be a weekly player.
impressed
impressive course, greens can be a bear, stay in fairway!
Leafy slowness.
Course was in decent shape. Greens were fast and nice. Play was extremely slow. A couple foursomes clogged up the course all day. Didn’t even finish my round. Didn’t feel like playing a 5 hour round in a two person group. It would be nice if they had plaques reminding slower players to let smaller groups play around them. Not everybody wants to play a 5 hour senior tour simulation.
Course vs Staff (tossup)
Strangest incident for an otherwise terrific round.
I arrived in the early evening. The gentleman inside (went by “DD”) was a good fella and said “go off 10”. Perfect. No worries. I’m alone, with a cart. I’ll play a 2 hour round if there’s no traffic.
As I’m approaching the 10th tee, “DD” comes out and says “hey. Let these guys play thru”.
These guys were a 3 or 4some (w/carts).
I said “DD. I’m gonna be gone before the second guy gets out of the cart”. He looked at me, clearly frustrated that I wasn’t hoping to let (watch) 3-4 guys play thru my single. “But they’re making the turn. Your just teeing off.” Yes DD. Because this is where you told me to tee off.
He frustratedly said “we’ll get moving then!” haha (Id been at the course for 4 minutes in total). :)
Of course I did. Shot my 80 (amazing round). Saw no one until 7 (16 to me) and finished in 2 hr 10 min.
Side note, the group behind me (at 10) was amazing and said “yeah man. No way are we playing thru you.”
After the round, I went inside to return the card key and buy a pop for the road. DD (nor did anyone else) say a word to me.
As I left, I said “DD. I wasn’t trying to be rude. I just knew I was finishing two hours before that group.” He said “don’t worry about it”. I said “I wasn’t. It just seemed that you are.” He ignored me.
In short. Course is great. And if you’re an Elks member, I have to think it’s lovely.
As an outsider, I don’t know… it just seems maybe they don’t want ya.
Disappointing moments for an otherwise terrific day of golf.
One of best layouts and values in Chicago area
Can’t say enough great things about Kankakee Elks. Layout is fantastic. Greens can be diabolical. Mounds, moguls and bumps make for interesting shots and lies throughout round. Wish I lived closer so I could play more often.
