Great hidden gem.
Great old school layout with elevated greens that are very well taken care of and can be as fast as any private club you'll play in the area.
Fairways are lush only knock would be sand in some of the bunkers was lacking quality.
Great par3’s.
I love the Elks it’s my favorite golf Now course. Greens have been really nice lately. The par 3’s are great. Only draw back the fairways are a little Sketchy. The greens are spectacular. If you miss greens it’s tough getting up and down. Give this a try and you’ll definitely come back. Pace of play is the only draw back. Just make sure you get out early then its not bad.
Fall golf
While the fairways are clean you better not hit the rough
Leaves are a fallin
Expected this time of year but on a nice day figured they may try to have someone working to clear
Played 36
Elks was in very good shape this past Thursday. Grounds crew were aerating fairways while we played and overall the course was in very good condition. Old school Langford & Moreau design which was never sanded (there are a few sand traps but none of them are really original course as built). Several holes were cut areas that were incredibly difficult to impossible unless you have course knowledge. Greens had good speed as well.....I highly recommend K Elks....great value, very nice staff and a really fun & sneaky difficult course to play. Always a solid 4 stars. Thanks for a great day again K Elks!! 36 in just under 5 hours!
Unique Vintage Course Design and Exceptional Experience
My second visit to Kankakee Elks was very much on par with my first round over a year and a half ago and nothing short of fantastic. The 1926 course design by Langford and Moreau is truly a treasure with 17 of the original 18 holes intact. Every hole is unique with no repeat design routing and yardages. The difficulty of this course is the green complexes - all of which are built up with severe contours and generally are very quick. Mounds in the fairways and fronting the greens are deceptive so it is vitally important to trust your yardage and not you vision. Many of the greens are elevated and needs to be accounted for with club selection for your approach shots. Greens had been aerated about 3 weeks ago and were nearly back to normal. Most putts rolled true and consistent pace. All of the green fringes and tee boxes were recently aerated and heavily watered so it was slightly muddy in those location. Fairways were lush and cut to a good height. The rough was also recently cut. Find balls in the rough was made difficult only due to the recent falling leaves. The Pro Shop selection of clothing is rather sparse, but the attendant was very welcoming and accommodating. Kankakee Elks is well worth the drive and a great value to play this classic design.
Merkke
Played it a number of years ago. Greens in excellent shape will definitely return next spring!
Club house boy
I play this course 4-6 times a year, definitely the friendliest, most helpful staff anywhere in our area.
That time of year
Great have just been aerated and putting is a chore
Easy to lose balls if not in fairway as once you are in rough and that means where fairway ends you will spend your time e searching as it is thick
Never play again
This is not a course I would recommend to a friend. Poor layout. Tee boxes not maintained (like concrete on most). Trees not maintained, well overgrown, should be trimmed.
Value and challenge
This is a very nice track a secret of the south! Great value with excellent conditions. The elevated green complex’s are the real treat. Nice place to spend an afternoon golfing and worth the ride
Tough course!
Deep rough and elevated clam-shell greens with changing elevation and steep drop-offs made for a real challenge.
