Best value in Greensboro area
My spouse and I are beginning golfers, and have been sampling most of the public courses in the Greensboro area. We have found Crooked Tree to be a fun course to play, and a great value for the money.
All the golf carts have GPS, which is very helpful for a new golfer trying to dial in clubs and range estimation.
The course was built in two stages. As a result, playing the front nine and the back nine is like playing two different courses in the same day. Very much fun. Please see other reviews for details.
The course has also made a good investment in their web site. It is easy to see and book tee times, and they have posted a nice guide as how to play the course.
We have not eaten at the clubhouse, so gave a neutral review.
Staff has always been very friendly, and we have never had a problem with speed of play.
It has quickly become our home course.
Small greens on front 9
Small greens on front 9
Course in pretty good shape.
Fairways and tee boxes were hard. You get a lot of roll.
Interesting Course
Like people have said in previous reviews, it's two different 9 holes for sure! Considering that the area has had no rain, I will not hold it against the course. It wasn't terrible by any means but it was dry. Greens were in great shape. The front 9 has SMALL GREENS and the back is a great modern layout. It was just 2 of us and played in 3 hours. Overall I will definitely go back and we got a super deal on price. I would recommend playing it and I will be back with a group when the area gets a bit more rain.
Very friendly staff...
Booked online for an early Sunday morning tee time. Somehow the booking was not entered correctly and the foursome I was originally paired with was overbooked. The ranger worked to get me off in a timely manner after the mix up was discovered. The course was rather nice. You would never know it was built on an old farm other than the surrounding farm land and its location. Will definitely play again if in the area.
Nice day
The guy in the clubhouse was a little grumpy! Would not lets us play in separate groups lumped us together. Not that busy.
Review
Nice course open and a few drive able par 4s. Great course for the money was $25 after 12 on the weekend
Course in great shape
As usual, enjoyed our outing at Crooked Tree. Had some folks that were apparently in a hurry that had no hesitation hitting into us, but not the courses fault.
Delivers again!
Played the course last year. Played it 3x in 2 weeks this year. Only regret is I won't be in the area for the foreseeable future. Golf shop: bare bones, nothing special, but I don't choose a course for the golf shop. Tee boxes: Above Average. Several courses have rough looking boxes this time of year, Crooked Creek's boxes were well sodded, even though a bit hard. (Drought in the area). Fairways: great shape. Watered and maintained very well. Greens: well maintained and plenty soft considering the drought conditions. Played 3x with different results regarding pace of play. First day played with a friend. 4+ hours. Teed off at 8:30 am on a Tuesday and waited the entire day. Plenty of 4somes so there was no playing through. Played at 1:30 on a Tuesday. Planned to play as a single, met up with another single on the 1st box. Played the entire round as 2some in under 3.5 hours. This was strictly due to our inability to hit the ball consistently. Last time, teed off at 11:40 on a Friday morning. Played the first 8 holes as a single, last 10 with as a 3some. Played front nine in under an hour. Played the back 9 in 1.5 hours. 18 holes of golf in 2.5 hours was amazing. Overall, the course is a great mix and enjoyable track to play. Another review mentioned it being "in the middle of a trailer park". There is one trailer on the 11th hole and one on the 16th. Hardly a park. The look of the course is not going to blow anyone away, but the course is well maintained and if I were local, I'd play it once a week if not more. Moderate to easy course, shot 97/91/85 respectively. Never paid over $25 and scored hot time for $15.
Perfect Condition!!
As always, Crooked Tree, was in great shape. Always enjoy seeing the staff and enjoying this great course!
good course
good place to play not up to par yet with weather being so cool at night greens have just been plugged in the last couple or weeks dead grass n large spots on fairways
Great bang for the buck!!
Two different courses, as the first half was built in the 50's. Second nine added in the 2000's. Front nine is short holes and small greens. Like living room small. Placement is key.
Back nine opens up, with 'normal' size greens. Greens roll true.
Decent but old outdated course
In all fairness, most of the course is still dormant, but overall it is not a layout I enjoyed. Very small greens which just pop up a little out of the fairway, the back is definitely newer and better. It is affordable, but since I was on vacation and not looking to play every day, I would have preferred to pay more for a better course. People friendly and for a country course ok but I expected more based on the rating.
Great value
The course was in pretty good shape and I have played there before. I met some lovely people as I played about 10 holes with a black brother and sister, absolutely delightful pair, and the last three holes with a couple who just moved to Greensboro recently and were delightful. I will probably see them again.
All in all it was an excellent day out. My golf game was just so so, but the people were great..
Nice layout
Good design, few blind shots, small greens but not difficult. Not a long course, few woods, very open and very enjoyaale. Will play again. Very economical, good value.
The course has small greens on the front nine that you should play distance to front to allow roll out and back nine has very generous greens.
Course that does not require driver on each hole but allows you risk reward. Carts a little slow but has GPS on cart.
The course was in great shape.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was our first time playing and the Marshall was very nice in the way he took time to help us with course management tips. The course was well maintained. It was like playing two different nines. Well worth the money. I will play there again.
Great bang for your buck
Bought a hot deal, for $8 per person. I grew up playing this course when it was only 9 holes. The front 9 is the old part, very tight and close to other holes. Tiny greens on the front make it hard to score well. It's also very short on the front. The back 9 is the new side, and much more like an up to date course with several challenging holes that make you create some shots. Greens were in excellent shape on the entire course. Fairways on the front were not great but manageable. The back was much better. I don't think they have water to the fairways on the front side, but may be wrong. I would recommend playing here for the value and challenge of basically 2 different 9 hole tracts.
Great course
Great place for a round any day. I play here all the time
Small greens, fairways rough, not my favorite
This is not one of my favorite courses. For a few reasons, very small greens but they are in good shape, side by side fairways on the front 9 that offer little protection. We had someone in our farway on most hopes. Gas powered carts. The back 9 played better although it was cut through a farm that had rundown trailers all over. Not very pleasing. If you missed the farway you better have a good idea were your ball is outher wise you will not find it. They sink into the grass and get covered up.
The only reason I would recommend this course is that it's playable as long as you as you don't expect anything great.
Fun layout and great value
Played this course for the first time on a Sunday morning. Got through in less than 3.5 hours. Really fun layout with the front 9 having more of a classic layout...narrow, tree lined fairways, target greens...and the back nine being more contemporary with wider fairways and large greens. A challenging, yet fun course. Will definitely be back.
