GPS on golf carts is cool
I didn't like having to be paired up with a perfect stranger. However, the guy I was paired with was very nice and gave me some good tips.
Beautiful course
This course was really beautiful, especially the back nine. Staff wasn't courteous whatsoever (except the ranger), felt rushed the entire time. Wouldn't recommend to a novice player, due to the staff and other players rushing you, but for the more experienced player, I would highly refer them to play here.
Course needs a lot of work
This course needs a lot of work. The front is too close together. Often times your tee shot is too close to the last green. Some of the fairways on the back nine were muddy or hard as concrete. You could hit an excellent shot in the middle of the fairway on either the 16th or 17th hole and end up in a mud patch that has been roped off. Seriously? I wouldn't pay full price for this course and watch out for fades that end up over your head on your tee shot.
The course is in good shape and it is a great value.
Pretty course. I always enjoy playing there. I have a 16 handicap and chose to play from the yellow tees rather than the red ,just to add a little challenge to it and something different.
Summer Rains have not been kind to Crooked Tree
No starter on a Saturday morning, so first tee significantly backed up. Finally teed off about 25 minutes after booked tee time. Rains this summer have been particularly tough on this course. A lot of standing water and greens have taken a beating. Once it dries out and greens recover I would consider playing again. And hoping they put a starter in place for weekend play.
Descent Course
Simple course with basic front nine and newer back nine. Nothing amazing but not bad either. If you can get a good deal, it is worth it.
Two different 9's
This course is a mixture of an old course (front 9) which is tight, short and greens are postage stamp size; and new (back 9) wide open, longer and bigger greens. Very enjoyable track to play. Used hot tee time and played for $12! For that kind of money I'd play there every day if I lived in the area. Was working a youth camp and thought we'd give this course a try and found a little jewel of a course. Fairways and greens were in great shape in spite of torrential rains the week prior, which led to cart path only which was tough for two fat guys! Staff was friendly and worked with us due to an emergency. Would recommend this to any locals or visitors to the area. Great find and will definitely play again next year when we are in the area!
Needs attention
The greens are patchy and are in trouble. They do putt true. The fairways are filled with weeds and grass is sparse. Friendly staff but they need a new greens keeper.
Great experience...
I enjoyed playing Crooked Tree a great deal. It was the first time playing the course and will definitely go back. The GolfLogix GPS was a major plus!!! It really helped getting the yardages to different areas on each hole from sand traps, water, and distances to and around the green. One of the only suggestions to the course would be to work on drainage on some of the holes especially in the low lying areas, though some water is to be expected. Overall, nice place to getaway and play and look forward to playing again.
Great value
Crooked Tree is among my favorite places to play. This course offers everything a golfer would like in a round. The course has a nice flow and presents every type of challenge you expect.
greens are unputtable
as expected, dormant Bermuda grass in fairways with only fair lies. Greens were extremely bumpy, would expect to see this on unmaintained courses. Rattings were bogus. Talked to others from outside the area that day, they felt deceived.
Enjoyed it
1st off the staff is great, 2nd to none. From the time we walked in all the way to the ranger checking on the pace of people in front of us, nothing but class. Enjoyed the course, for the time of year it was very well maintained. A lot of the holes play a little short but narrow fairways (more on the front) make it a great shotmakers course. Back 9 plays completely different and opens up a bit more. Really can't wait to play this course as the weather warms up.
A hidden gem and an amazing value
I used to live in the area but have moved and don't get to come back here that often anymore. I was in town on business and had some time to get away and play here again, and I'm glad I did. The course is in great shape and the greens are all in excellent condition, especially for it being in the winter (or what winter there is in NC). The front 9 is mostly tree-lined and the back 9 opens up quite a bit, but all 18 are challenging in their own ways.
And another reviewer mentioned the driving range not being the best, but I'm not too sure what more they could have wanted than an open area to hit a bunch of balls. There wasn't anything about the range that I would have complained about, but I'm not the pickiest person either.
I would definitely recommend this course to anyone. I have never seen the greens in rough shape over the past couple of years and have always enjoyed myself.
This course has great views.
The course is in great shape for it to be winter. The front nine is challenging because of the small greens. The back nine the course begins to open up and you can let it rip. I will go back.
Narrow fairways and small greens make this a little more difficult than it looks. All and all, it's in good shape for this time of year. Nice people

The course was well worth the money
The course was in really good shape for this time of year and the price for what we played was almost unbeatable. The carts have GPS which was very helpful on certain shots and the course layout is challenging enough to keep you on your toes. The staff was great and very helpful, the cart guy actually ran a phone to us in the parking lot that we had left in the cart. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in playing it.
Greens were great and rolling true
This course continues to get better each year. It's come a long way since it was just a 9 hole track. Greens well managed and roll true. Great deal for the price!!! Will definitely continue to play out here. Fairly challenging from the tips as well.
Good value for the money
Course itself is well maintained but the driving range set up is not great. Staff is friendly. Tight fairways on the front side that open up and are more generous on the backside. A few of the holes are a little confusing as to where your tee shot should be going but after the second round its a little easier to figure out. Two has a second shot over water that is quite a challenge and twelve is all or nothing over the pond from the tee with traps on either side of the green and out of bounds directly behind, scary hole that!
Bring your own food or eat before you come. Only thing available at the clubhouse to eat is hotdogs and microwave burgers and no place to go nearby.
