I love this course and the people who run it. Good vibs everywhere. I only have one arm and this course plays to my strength ; left hook. WILL WE PLAY IT AGAIN = DARN RIGHT WE WILL all the way from Lakeland
Bloomingdale Golfers Club is in better shape than I recall from last year - particularly the greens. The course is long (just under 5400 yards from the forward tees), & the layout is challenging with an abundance of trouble. Staff is especially nice. Practice facilities are good & conveniently located. Yesterday's round was SLOW to the point of frustration. A threesome a couple of groups ahead of mine was ridiculously slow, and that was made much worse by the twosome behind us hitting into my group multiple times when they could clearly see we had no place to go. BE COURTEOUS, PEOPLE!!
Great day tough course
The only complaint was the course was wet in several areas. The greens were consistent and in good shape. The fairways were in good condition. Holes 16 and 18 are an adventure. After the round, we had a slice of pizza in the clubhouse and it was very good. We will play here again.
Good value with Hot Deal from Golf Now
Course is in pretty good shape. Greens are fast but fairways are a bit tight, not a lot of grass in some areas. But today was all worth it, I had a hole in one on #17.
After several years of wanting to try this course, we finally got there yesterday. Course was a challenging layout but not impossible to play if one chooses the correct tee for your ability. Greens were smooth and true. Landing areas are sufficient for the slightly offline shot most of us hit. One can score if you hit the shots. My son shot 41 on the front and it was his 3rd round in 3 months. A little back pull made the second nine a little tougher for him but gamed himself to 49. Will definitely go back although a 24 mile drive to the course.
Did not play. A young couple with 2 children teed off in 2 groups in front of us and we’re giving lessons on the course. I went inside and received a refund. Round would have taken too long.
Always a great track
Wife and I hadn't played since August and it was great to be back playing. Weather was cool, but comfortable. It had rained & the course was a bit wet,but greens were in great shape. We'll be back.
Despite recent monsoons the course was surprisingly dry. The course layout is challenging. You have to play smart and position your drive and second shots of holes 9 and 16 . The greens were in great shape but slower than usual. The pace of play was fine despite a large group teeing off ahead of us. I would definitely recommend this course and plan to play it again soon. It was great value for the price. The staff was also extremely friendly.
Bloomingdale Golfers Club - Tampa's Best Ride
Built in the mid-80s by the prolific Floridian architect, Ron Garl, Bloomingdale Golfers Club is simply a great facility. It is ALL about the golf. From the practice grounds to the grill, you are hard pressed to find anything better in the Tampa area. Back in my mini-tour days (when BGC was private), this was the course I based out of for the Florida/Georgia swing. There was no lack of terrific players to find a game with and to throw down a wager or two (or twelve ;)
As a semi-public facility, today, it still shines. Water hazards abound (13 lakes!), old oaks come into play, course conditions are usually superior and the greens run very fast and very true (they use a Champion Dwarf bermuda - plays like bent WITH grain. Yeehaa!!) They are owned by Fore Golf Partners, a golf management group based in Virginia, and they still offer memberships which allow for reciprocal play on all of FGP's courses. Golf Digest has had great things to say about the course (perennial 4 Stars), through the years, including a description of how good the par 5s are - perhaps a collection as good as any in the state. I fully agree. The par 3s ain't too shabby, either ;)
Challenging and fun
This course was very difficult, but the pace was great and it was a lot of fun.
There is a lot of water so unless you're accurate be ready to lose some balls.
I'll be back when I'm better!
Due to all the rain we've had here in Florida they have a lot of work to do to get the course back.
The driving range was torn up, but they still charged for range balls. Several tee boxes have temporary tees do to resodding.
I will let the course recovery before I go back.
Challenging Course with great value
Course rewards fairway hits but plays difficult out of the rough. I have played the course multiple times and consistently shoot 3-4 strokes over my handicap due to the layout of the hazards. Greens are excellent for this time of year. Will definitely come back.
When we booked our tee times with the course directly - they did not mention the greens had been punched and sanded earlier in the week. Nor did they mention it when we paid our fees, nor did they offer any type of discount. The front nine greens were OK, mostly playable with little impact from the maintenance. The back nine was a completely different story. Every green had lots of sand on them and the ball bounced like it was going across year's old asphalt. Only one drinking station per nine is completely unsatisfactory, considering the heat and humidity in mid-June. At least a third of the tee boxes were nothing more than weed patches interspersed throughout a pile of sand.
The real grip is the fact the course expects golfers to pay full greens fees under these extremely poor course conditions. I'd recommend staying as far away from this course as possible, unless you like wasting your time and money on a very poorly kept up course.
Great course but...
The course was super wet, the greens were punched and it was 90 degrees rules so not enjoyable.
Tee boxes need a lot of work
Course wasn’t in that great of condition. Tee boxes are in really bad condition. Greens had way to much sand on them, so much the flag wouldn’t go down in the cup all the way. The maintenance staff would talk and drive by in the middle of the backswing. A lot of things need attention
