Unfriendly, uncooperative, and over officious
While this is not the first time I've been treated badly as a result of booking a tee time through GolfNow, it was the most severe discrimination I've ever experienced.
We we lectured on how the course did not see a penny of the GolfNow booking fee. Although there was nobody scheduled to tee off and there were very few players on the course, we were denied the opportunity to tee off a little early unless we paid for a new tee time at the course.
A member of our group overheard the employee at the counter telling a GolfNow customer that he could deny the player the right to play since he was 2 minutes late for check in.
We played the front nine in 1 hour 10 minutes. On hole #12 we ran into a foursome (the only other golfers we saw on the course) who declined to let us play through. It took 2 1/2 hours to play the last 6 holes.
Even the upscale courses in Alabama are super friendly to GolfNow customers, so it is very perplexing that the employees of a State run course are so blatantly hostile and officious toward us.
I would not play this course again even if it was free.
Would make a good goat ranch
Poorly maintained: golf carts are ancient, cart paths are crumbling and full of potholes, greens are bumpy,
cannot find a level spot on most tees.
Value
For the money I spent this was an exceptional value. However there were two fivesomes playing in front of me that held up the entire side of the course. There was a sign forbidding this but it still occurred not once but twice.
This course is beautiful and challenging...
Eagle's Nest was in excellent condition. Tee time was 2:04. Went off a tad later. I've played this course once before about 12 years ago. It was nice then; it's exceptionally nice now! The greens were in good shape. The rough was even pretty, but it was deceptively 6-8 inches deep. It definitely played more difficult than it looked. Great golf course in the fabulous Lake Guntersville State Park. In addition to golf, the park has trails, cabins, a nice lodge with pool, beautiful views, water access, and zip-lines. Plenty of fun for the whole family!
Awesome Course at Lake Guntesrville State Park
Awesome layout!!!. Very challenging because of the layout, slope, and rough. You have to keep the ball in the fairway. Some of the greens are uphill which presents its own challenges. I will definitely play this course again.
Great Course for the Money!!!
This course is in excellent shape. Tee boxes and greens are well manicured. The course staff is very friendly and easily accommodates anyone's needs. Play this course and take in all the beauty of Guntersville Stste Park after an awesome round of golf.
Rude staff
My golf experience here was ruined from the start. I was about 5 minutes late checking in and this older gentleman with glasses decided to give a lecture. He said, "since you booked through GolfNow, I can easily refuse you to play." And he proceeded with "But I'll let u play today because it's not busy. And I'm not sure why it's not busy". Well, that's probably because it's 90 degrees and probably 95 degrees heat index. I feel his comment was totally not called for, especially on a slow day.
The course itself is nice but definitely not on a hot day due to its openness and lack of trees.
If you're booking thru GolfNow, beware. I've heard other golfers having similar issues with staff. Plenty of other courses nearby without the clubhouse drama.
rude service,good course
Got the hot deal for our foursome and when we checked in 25 minutes before tee time they would not give us a cart key.Had to wait till 5 minutes before tee off. Seemed not too excited to have us as guest i guess. Course is good but the greens are a bit thin for bermuda and cut a little long. Good layout with some nice views of appalacian foothills.
Worth the drive
Some longer par 4s. And long par 5s and challenging par 3s. Greens and fairways in great shape. Tee box's were ok. But the views and the lodge at the park were great.
Awesome course!
This course is great! The greens are in good shape, but a little hard. Fairways are perfect on most holes. The staff is very friendly. Keep up the great work!
Great Value!!!
The course was in above average shape. The greens were really good. The course is wide open. I sprayed the ball everywhere and only lost one ball all day. I didn't make any eagles, but we saw three Eagles flying above us. That made my day and wife's day. I will be back.
need to play more than once, course knowledge helps, a lot of drives over hills.
I would bet that this course was really scenic before the tornado hit it. On the back nine on the par 5 green, can see where the tornado went. Still, a nice course and only about 1 hour drive from Huntsville. Par 3's long and look innocent, really tough to hit par on. Some greens really big and go up a club on uphill approach shots. Only thing I would change, if they would give you an indication on the pin placements that day.
Enjoyable and Scenic Golf Course
First time I have played the Guntersville State Park since the tornados went through April 2011 and course was closed from the damage. Course has a much different feel with not as many trees and is more wide open than pre-tornado. On the plus side, the views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Guntersville from many of the holes is outstanding with the renovation. Anyway, I played on 12/16/2015 and course was not crowded at all despite a 70 degree day in mid Dec. Course in typical winter condition with fuzzy greens. The fairways were in nice shape however and generous in width. Definitely worth playing and recommend it.
Black Friday
Good break from shopping with the wives. Perfect weather and friends to spend time together. Young men shot low and us old men enjoyed time on course.
Can't wait to play it again!
Nice location. Great overall first experience at this course. Great greens, and course layout makes you have to hit various shots.
One of the best around for the money.
This course is a must play for the money, I play here all the time and it never gets old, they keep the course in pretty good shape with the weather conditions being how they are, played here yesterday and with about a week of 90 degree plus heat and scorching sun baking the course it was still very thick and green and well watered, for the money this course is a must play!
Very Fun
Open course, great chances to crush the ball. for sure will be going back in June.
Eagles Nest
I played this course in 2007, it has improved 100%. John and his staff went out of there way to accomadate us ! After a very rainy night the course was in great shape , we had no difficulty navigating the course! We will be back !
