Reviews
Fun & Challenging
The Course is fun & challenging to play. The greens are slow and need some work. The pace can be slow at time. Overall it's a 7.5 out of ten!
state park ok
beautiful setting. course had had a lot of rain so cart path only, for good cause.
Negative: club rental more than greens fees and we got INCOMPLETE club sets. Lucky they didn't want to charge us for the missing clubs when we returned them!
Oak Mountain
Course is OK. Nice layout. The staff is rude and the pace of play is torturous. Most players are over 60 and walk. If you have all day to play, you will be fine. The course is packed with elderly and every single hole is backed up. If management was more polite and the marshall actually did their job, it would be nice. For the money.
Played this course on vacation. Had a great time!
Came in on vacation. 3 of us played on Monday. Decided we had had a great time so we played again next day.
Not GolfNow friendly, REFUSED TO HONOR GOLFNOW TEE TIME! ARROGANT,RUDE STAFF!
After making reservations via Golf now for a 7:50am start was told they don't open until 8:00am and they would "work us in if possible but no guarantees".
Another group made reservations for 7:40am and were told the same thing.
Very rude and unapologetic. Basically said they don't like GolfNow and they can do what they want. Claimed the mistake was due to Golf Now and took no responsibility for it. It's a public course run by old curmudgeons. Finally let us off on back9 35 minutes late. Then held us up when we made the turn to let other golfers who made a "real" reservation by calling the pro shop. Took over 5 hours to play a round. Unprofessional, did I say rude? Mikey Mouse wannabe's.
To top it off, other "regulars" showed up during our wait and were told to go to the starter and would be taken care of. Don't go here unless you want to be treated bad and taken advantage of. Very poor management with completely unapologetic attitudes. AND wait for it..... extra $5 to get into park where course is located.
Course was ok, there is a drought so course is parched in fairways but greens are ok. Golf now should not advertise this course.
What a great day!
Excellent condition of course and a great day for play!
Very Good State Park Course
This course has a very good layout and is an extremely good value. Nice layout and has some very challenging holes. Was in good condition and very playable. Course employees were very nice and happy to help us. It was a little slow, but the players in front of us were considerate and let us through. We were a twosome and played in about 4 hours, but probably would have been much longer if we had not played through 3 groups.
Great Value - Good layout
Alabama's own Jerry Pate reworked this course a few years ago. It is an excellent layout and moderately challenging. Fall would be a good time to play it. The leaves in the state park should compliment well in a couple of weeks.
OK course with poor value
The course layout is very ordinary, very flat with a lot of holes looking similar. Bermuda greens which are painfully slow. I would never consider this course without GolfNow deals. The staff was friendly this time (not always the case) and they took their jobs a little too seriously.
Lastly, if u have a non-playing spouse, be prepared to pay additional $18. And gate entrance fee is $5 and they don't take cards. Awesome. Not!
Reunited
Had not played this course in roughly 20 years. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Course was in great shape and brought back good memories playing with friends and family. I think though we got real lucky with the pace of play. Probably very slow normally but we did not wait or get pushed the entire round. Of course the greens were slow Bermuda but in really good shape. Great track! When considering the cost don't forget about the $5 entry fee into the park. Still a wonderful value especially with the hot deal!
Awesome course
This was my first time here but will not be my last. Course was very well manicured from tee to green. The only complaint I would have is while checking in the older gentleman was very unfriendly.
A hot deal steal
I had the day off so I checked golfnow's hot deals and got a GREAT price for a 1 pm tee time.I didn't get a chance to practice because of a strong passing rain storm which cleared almost everyone in front of me.The course drained very well and was in EXCELLENT shape but we were told it would be cart path only because of the rain. It's pretty much a flat course which makes it an easy course to walk. There's not a lot to worry about some sand and water on some holes but mainly tree (nothing very difficult.)Tee boxes and greens very well maintained, all in all for what I paid I'd play this course again and again.
Oak Mountain State Park Employee
When we showed up for your tee the man at the Pro-Shop said your carts will have to be in by Dark.
We went to the first hole and the Marshall that took our receipts said you will have to have the carts in by dark.
My definition as well as the dictionaries for dark is -
the absence of light in a place:
I was playing with 2 of my 3 sons and we were really enjoying ourselves.
We had 3 holes left and a Marshall came by and said it is 7:37 and that is considered dark so you must head to the club house. I ask do we not get to finish and he said No. Instead of being rude in front of my kids we began to head to the club house. Both kids ask, dad we have plenty of time to finish and the guy in the club house said we must be finished by dark.
I am self employed and would definitely not treat my clients like a government paid employee treated us.
I have played every course in Birmingham and this is the only one that this has ever happened to me.
There was a group in front of use walking up to the last tee box and he made them stop also. I do not understand how you can continue staying in business when you treat customers like this.
I think no matter what you do for a living and even if you work for the government, there should be some accountability.
I wanted to ask for a rain check for my last 3 holes but they had already closed up.
I will tell everyone about this and was really upset with my treatment.
Remember dark at Oak Mountain State Park means what the Marshalls want it to mean.
Upset customer.
A nice Robert Trent Jones layout
This course is in great condition tee box to green. The greens are old Bermuda, a little slow, but roll very well. Nice layout where you'll use most clubs in your bag.
Fun Course
This course is currently in near perfect condition. The grass is beautiful on the tee boxes, fairways and greens. The layout is not as difficult as many others, but it is challenging enough to make for a great day of golf. I will certainly play here again on my next trip to the Birmingham area.
Print Out Golf Confirmation
I have played at this course many times over the years. I noticed recently that they were on GolfNow and thought I would book through the service; wrong idea. I have used GolfNow several times in the past at other courses and have never had an issue until Oak Mountain. The Pro Shop insisted that I have a print out of the golf confirmation although they had a list in front of them and I displayed the confirmation on my telephone. I have never had this issue at any other course that I have booked through GolfNow. The Pro Shop's attitude will steer me away from booking through GolfNow for this course; who carries a printer with them. Save a free trees Oak Mountain and move into the new millennium.
Great Course - Poor Management
Course was in fine shape despite a good bit of rain in the days leading up to play. Fun track with great variety of difficulty. Very playable for a once to twice a month golfer. Greens are decent. Some had roller tracks and there was no water coolers around.
Be SURE to PRINT OUT your GolfNow Confirmation upon booking. The Pro Shop was reluctant to let us play and gave us a good scolding despite it being our first time there because we didn't have a printed out confirmation. It really set a negative tone for our round.
Golf Now showing hot deal @ this course of $43. No thank you, it's not worth it.
