Reviews
Average
To be fair, this course could be awesome. I would much rather play a course that winds thru a State Park over a neighborhood course. The scenery is great and the layout is fun. However, the rest is just average. The fairways aren't impressive at all and the greens are fairly slow. They have shacks for water coolers, but for whatever reason, there wasn't water set out. I don't understand how that can happen. Will definitely play again for a good GolfNow price, but I would't show up and pay a weekend rate.
Good value
Nice course layout. Great price for an afternoon round. Not too crowded or slow. Very affordable and a good course for the price compared to other courses in the area.
Golf Now Tee Time Confirmation
Front Desk in clubhouse insisted on having printed tee time confirmation. In past accepted visual confirmation from phone. Finally relented and allowed to play with visual confirmation.
Not handled in a people friendly manner. When I told him I was from out of town and no printer available he accepted the visual. He could have relented earlier and saved some frustration.
An enjoyable golf course!
Early spring conditions. Dormant grass and muddy spots to plug your ball, but what a layout! This
state course is much less daunting than the state
course in Guntersville. Oak Mountain does not have a lot of ups and downs but winds through beautiful forest. Greens need help.
satisfied customer
Enjoyable round of golf. Greens are not as smooth as could be. Check in person was preoccupied and not very friendly.
WORSE GOLFING EXP. IVE EVER HAD
Never been treated so poorly on a golf course before.
Customer service was terrible, mainly by the manager Bennie Smallwood.
Refused to let us off before starting three parties of 4 and a party of 5 as well, even though no one was scheduled to tee off for 45 minutes.
Round ended up taking 5.5 hours and the fairways were still soaked, even though it rained almost a week earlier.
Will never play here again and would not refer this course to anyone.
Winter Neglect
In my experience, the staff is not friendly or helpful at all. The biggest issue is they don't keep up with tee times. There was a 5some walking up to the 1st tee box at our tee time and a 4some that started 5 minutes prior. There's no starter or marshal watching the course and there's not even one single water cooler on the course. That's pretty bad when the original price to pay for 18 holes is $50. The conditions might change for the summer time, but they definitely neglect winter golfers.
Oak Mountain
Great track. I don't hit the ball very far anymore so it plays a little long even from the Mens Grey Ts (6200). Most of the par 4s were unreachable for me in 2. My wife struggled as well as the Red/Gold Ts played 5800
nice round
Course in good shape, greens were better than I thought, enjoyed the round, Course needs water coolers tho,
Great venue
Course was fun and beautiful and I would recommend to anyone
Potential to be very good.
This course is a great value for price and if they only understood that the most important person there is the customer standing in front of them they would be great. It seems every time I go there checking in is a problem. Very slow if there's more than two people. If the phone rings they answer it in the middle of your transaction and make you wait while they're helping someone on the phone rather than asking them to hold and take money from paying customers standing in line to pay. That doesn't seem correct to me at all. The rest of the staff is very friendly but when you show up give yourself a little extra time just in case the phone rings, other than that it's a very good value.
Very nice layout.
Very nice state park that the course is located within. The greens and fairways are in excellent shape. Some of the tee boxes have been neglected. The sand traps were maintained but are in need of more sand.
Overall it is a nice course but it has more potential. I plan on playing it again.
Fun course to play - nestled in the park
First time playing this course and it was very enjoyable. Great opportunity to work the ball with many dog legs. Some nice par 3's that will challenge and a few holes that allow you to release the driver.
Course was in great shape - tee boxes were a little hard and dry but the rest of the course (especially the greens) was very nice.
With golfnow app, great price.
Greens are in much better shape than a lot of local courses in area. With the golfnow app, it makes this course really affordable.
This is a very good course
The is a very good course and without GolfNow I would not have not know about it. The staff was very nice and polite. I was single, however, the ranger allowed me tee off without being paired with someone (thanks). The fairway and green were good. The greens were somewhat slow but it did rain very hard the day prior. I will be playing it again when I'm in the Magic City.
Refreshing scenic views.
Great course. Greens are true and difficult. Course is very playable and beautiful. Can't believe this is a state facility. Go play!!!!! You won't be disappointed. Nice workers also.
Excellent for the price!
The track is nice. The greens are coming along but still a little slow. The Hot Deal lets you ride 18 for less than the 9 hole walking rate.
Staff isn't friendly and will no do anything to help the customer.
Unfriendly staff. They make the customer feel as if they are bothering them when they ask the staff questions. The staff acted as if we were bothering them because we were using the golf now coupon.
Oak Mt
I have played this course multiple times and always enjoy the challenge. The course was in really good shape this past time I played. Oak Mt isn't an extremely long hitting course but it looks like it is and I find myself wanting to over swing my clubs which tends to get me in trouble. If you steady your power, the course plays very well. The greens were tough to get a hold of because of how fast they played and it took me several holes to get a good feel for the speed.
Good all around course. Do recommend
Well kept greens, manicured fairways and nice layout. Rice is reasonable for quality of course
Couldn't agree more. Worst staff of any business I have ever encountered.
