Very Nice Course
The fairway was amazing. The greens were in great shape. The staff was super friendly but I hated having them wait at every hole because the groups in front of us were slow. They kept apologizing to us but what we really wanted was for them to just chill out and lay low. Anyone would be lucky to play this course.
Senator played much differently than Judge on same day. The Judge sits low in the river valley, while the Senator is elevated with rolling terrain, rendering it much dryer. judge was CPO, while Senator was 90 degrees.
Greens rolled really good. Not as fast as I have seen them, but super grainy.
Fantastic 36-hole day with super Trail card offer: first round $53, with bounce back replay on different course for $30, plus a free sleeve of balls. That’s excellent value.
Judge still a staple on the Trail
Little wet today from overnight rains. Still, course was in tremendous shape.
The Judge is punctuated by a fantastic collection of par 3s, with three of the four featuring watery hazards.
Great opening tee shot. And a fantastic final approach.
Maybe the best bunker consistency on the Trail. They get it right. Compact and wet. Not a sandbox, like most of the other sites.
We spent the weekend at RTJ Capitol Hill and had a blast. Back to back 36 hole days, and they were very accomodating. We made our tee times months in advance, paid, stayed on site, and when we arrived everything was ready for us!
We played the Legislator in the afternoons...and, for our group at least, we liked it more than the Judge. It's up on the bluff, with great views of the river below, and its in better condition. Greens were great, rolled nicely! Manicured so well, with room off the tee, and if you hit it in the trees, there was room for recovery shots. Front nine is up on the bluff, and the back nine goes down by the river until you get to 15 then the last few are back on the bluff... Great course, fun from a few tees up from the tips, and great atmosphere for our buddies trip. We'll definitely be back!
Absurd Green Speeds
My criticism only concerns the greens. The course in every respect was in excellent condition. That said, it is absurd to drop a ball from a height of 6 inches onto the green next to the cup and watch as it doesn't come to rest until it is more than 40 feet away. Seeing every member of the group 3 putt many greens or even 4 putt multiple greens does help pace of play or enjoyment. When it is not possible to stop a 3 foot putt within 30 feet of the hole on multiple greens, you are no longer playing golf. It might be possible to have such green speeds on greens that are flat, but these greens are heavily contoured and most of the holes were cut on slopes. I have played all the RTJ golf trail sites and I love fast greens, but the greens at this site are way over the top and not representative of the green speeds at the other trail sites - thank goodness!
One of the Best
I am a 14.5 index and drive the ball 220-230. At my home course (white tees, 6000 yards, 126 slope) I am able to play in 3.5 to 4 hours with similarly level golfers. The Judge is a great golf course. Holes are diverse, gorgeous, with lots of wildlife to see. The greens are large typical Jones and tough to navigate. It was impossible to complete the course in 4 hours and 20 minutes for a golfer of my level and enjoy the intricacies of the course especially the greens. The staff pushed the time requirements and I understand the need not to hold up the course. I just hope I can find a time to come back when a 5 hour round is allowed so I can actually play the course rather than hack a ball around. Once again course is great in all aspects.
A must play on the RTJ trail.
I have had the pleasure on playing several RTJ courses. This is by far the best I have played. The course is visually beautiful. You will catch yourself just taking in the natural beauty as well as the course lay out. The stafcwasxextremely helpful from the parking lot trolley driver to the starter. He green fee is pricey but in this case you get what you pay for. The course is challenging from any set of tees, but not if you follow this simple rule” play to the 150 yrd marker it sets the course up easier. The greens were fast 10-10.5 on the stempand it’s hard to find a level lie. A lot of undulation so bring your A game.
What a beautiful course. Challenging holes and beautiful conditions. No complaints about except this. - we don’t drink alcohol while playing. Why can’t you have coffee on your “carts”? I know alcohol sells - what about those of us who don’t?
Great layout and condition
Went early and had nobody else out there and what a treat this course is. Greens were fast but not crazy, however VERY undulated and for me the greatest defense on the course. Definitely worth playing and will not regret. Staff were all super friendly.
Vote Yea for Senator
Beautiful day in Prattville, Alabama. We began our round about noontime.
Course in awesome shape! A ball in the rough is lost, no reason to search, so staying in fairway is crucial. Greens were incredibly fast, and rolled true. Not used to Bermuda grass so that posed some problems in rough around greens.
Have played Legislator, and that had way more trees and water. The Senator was way more open, though lots of bunkers. Sand in great shape so that made getting out easier.
Played White tees this time, may tee it forward to teal tees next time.
Will definitely play this course again. Voting yea for Senator!
A bit pricier than the other courses at Capital Hill and probably not worth the extra $20 a round, but an enjoyable layout in very good condition. Greens were lightning fast, and tough to read. Staff was friendly and helpful. Despite the cost, would not miss this one on the Trail.
Beautiful course! The prettiest course i have ever played! A pure joy to play
First off, you’re greeted by friendly staff even before you get to the clubhouse which sets the foundation for the rest of the day. The driving range makes you want to practice because it’s so nice. The Judge, well, it’s a hard but a rewarding course. The views alone put a smile on your face, and the upkeep of the fairways and greens were perfect.
Nice course but lots of construction.
Very nice course, challenging to say the least, under construction so a little distracting for the price.
Great course to play
Loved every hole , one of three RTJ `S I HAVE PLAY GREAT!!!
Play at this golf course every time I'm vacationing in the Selma, AL area. Trent Jones courses are always in my opinion well maintained.
