Extremely enjoyable.
Beautiful course! The prettiest course i have ever played! A pure joy to play
Amazing
First off, you’re greeted by friendly staff even before you get to the clubhouse which sets the foundation for the rest of the day. The driving range makes you want to practice because it’s so nice. The Judge, well, it’s a hard but a rewarding course. The views alone put a smile on your face, and the upkeep of the fairways and greens were perfect.
Nice course but lots of construction.
Very nice course, challenging to say the least, under construction so a little distracting for the price.
Great course to play
Loved every hole , one of three RTJ `S I HAVE PLAY GREAT!!!
Great Course
Play at this golf course every time I'm vacationing in the Selma, AL area. Trent Jones courses are always in my opinion well maintained.
Very Nice Layout and Great Conditions
This is a very good course with many challenging holes. Great overall condition.
There were some blind shots into the green but if you scouted a bit it was okay. You had to be precise off the tee to avoid the fescue but the fairways were wide enough to hit.
Great Course
What a great golfing experience! Awesome course in great shape. The views are unbelievable. The Senator course is a great links layout. The only difficult thing for me was not enough signs on the course. The pictures of each holes layout on the scorecard was not very detailed. From the tee, you could not determine where the dogleg of each hole began to know where to aim your tee shot. Other than that, I highly recommend this course to everyone who gets a chance to play it.
a links experience on RTJ trail
i think 4 stars is a little high, but 3 is a little low. this was the 2nd RTJ course out of 4 we played on a recent trip. it ended up being my third favorite, but it's still a very good course.
it was in great shape from tee to green. there is a great variety of holes, and lots of strategy comes into play. you MUST drive the ball well. there are grassy dunes lining nearly every hole, and any ball that finds them is as good as gone. there are also several fairway bunkers to navigate as you make your way around.
the biggest downside of this course is probably its linksy nature. there are no trees on the course, and the dune-lined holes start to look a little similar after a while. it's not a deal breaker, but i've played links style courses with more interesting terrain (chambers bay, tetherow).
the course is great, but i do feel i should point out that the pace of play police are out in full force. to an annoying degree. we teed off at 8:20am, there were 2 groups behind us and then a tournament. there was a twosome in front of us. obviously we couldn't keep up with a twosome, and the foursome behind us was a little off our pace. still we were warned several times to speed up. in fact after being thanked by one marshal on 10 tee for getting back on pace, another marshal got on us coming off 10 green for being too slow, even though the group behind us wasn't even on the tee.
final note: #17 was the hardest hole of the whole trip. wow. good luck!
Favorable verdict
I wasn't sure how I felt about The Judge the first time I played. Now with a handful of loops on this formidable track, however, I find myself enjoying it more and more with each time I visit. Know this going in: The Judge is a brute. At 7,813 yards from the tips, this course plays extremely long, since there is little to no elevation change once you've struck your initial tee shot. Herein lies maybe my only criticism of the course: there is too wide a gap between the lower end boxes. I prefer to play about 6,200 yards if possible. I'm comfortable with 6,500 if necessary. But the teal tees offer 4,951 yards, while the whites play 5,910. The next set, the orange, comes in at 6,517. Other than that I find little to needle this course about. What is remarkable about The Judge is that if you take the time to look around between shots, you will think you are in Louisiana, not central Alabama. Swampland encroach on many holes and the Spanish moss dripping out of the trees make for excellent scenic value. The first and 18th hole rivals any opening and closing combination on the Trail. The opening tee shot will descend roughly 200 feet to a fairway that appears much more claustrophobic than it really is. Take a moment to notice the Montgomery skyline in the distance. The pins were tucked today, making for some very hard pars. There is a good deal of undulation on these green complexes and negotiating putting into the grain across a ridge then downgrain to the hole is a skill that will serve you extremely well here. The fairways are ample, but a solid tee game will also lead to a good score. Outside of the first one, the par 3s really stand out as well. No. 6 plays to a large island green. No. 12 is also all carry across a water hazard to a bulkheaded green. And No. 16 asks you to again carry a water hazard to a green heavily guarded by bunkers. The par-4 closing hole, while short at 321 yards from the orange tees, provides as dramatic a closing approach as the first hole did with the initial strike. A lovely waterfall cascades down the right side of the green and flows across the front at the bottom of the elevated green. Don't be fooled though. Just because you will likely have a wedge in your hand for your approach, if the pin is in the middle or front, balls will spin off the front and leave a rather dastardly pitch back up the hill. My son even putted his ball off the green from well above the hole. Capitol Hill is a wonderful facility with a top-notch circular range, several chipping/pitching/ areas and several large putting greens. The ride up the wooden cart bridge from the 18th green back to the clubhouse, which looks like a ride at Six Flags, is something you don't see very often. Bottom line: The Judge is the crown jewel of the three 18-hole courses at Capitol Hill, and among the top 5 tests on the Trail.

Happy Customer
Beautiful course conditions. Loved the first hole - very picturesque. Pace was great - nobody in front or behind us at 9:40am tee time. Practice facilities are above average.
Senator not my fav
The Good- staff was phenomenal ! Course was in GREAT shape- Pace of play was good.
The "not so good"- completely forgettable course except for one of the worst holes I have ever seen (#17-Par 5.)Every hole looked eerily similar...Huge mounds lining both sides of fairways and monstrous green s that only lacked a Clowns Mouth and windmill. I was hugely disappointed as I was expecting to be wowed.
Capitol Hill is a premium golf complex
Capitol Hill is a well run golf complex all 3 courses are different and are must plays. The staff provides excellent customer service from the time you arrive at the course until you leave. If you play two days in a row course will store your clubs and have your cart loaded and ready to go when you arrive the next day. We had a 3 hour rain delay the restaurant was ready for the extra traffic, pro shop staff kept us posted on projected restart time. Our 2nd rd was rained out and we had no problems rescheduling. All courses are busy and the marshals do a good job of politely encouraging groups to keep the pace of play moving. Overall pace was good.
Legislature:
Course was in great shape it rained 2-3 inches the night before we played CP only but course was dryer than anticipated. Legislature has elevated tees and greens and rolling fairways, fairway bunkers are well placed. Back nine played more difficult than front. A great course.
The Judge:
The Judge winds through the Alabama River bottoms and it comes into play on several holes. Par 5's are long and difficult, Par 3's require shots over water. A good variety on Par 4s some tee shots have forced carry. The Judge was a little wet do to heavy amount of rain received in the area course is difficult but playable. Our group moved up one tee box from our normal yardage as course does play long. Condition was excellent shape greens rolled true.
The Senator:
The Senator was the easiest course of the 3 and the most fun to play. The links style course with most fairways framed by large mounds makes for some crazy bounces. Shots hit into heavy grass on mounds can be hard to find. The slopes and mounds can be used to your advantage. The Par 5 17 with forced carry over water on tee shot and 2nd shot was one of the best holes on the complex. Course conditions were excellent. I highly recommend a trip to Capitol Hill
best course in Alabama bar none!!
love this course!! favorite course in Alabama by far, very challenging though. Not for beginners. beautiful scenery along the Alabama River.
The Judge & The Senator
Great facility and great golf courses. The Judge is significantly more difficult than the Senator which plays like a links course and a bit more forgiving off the tee. Recommend playing them both.
The Judge
Be ready! First hike 200 feet elevation with water down right and trees and marsh on left. Small green and very fast. That was probably one of the easier holes. Absolutely beautiful course.
AWESOME EXPERIENCE
From the minute I pulled into the parking lot until my clubs were loaded into my car, this was a GRADE A PLUS EXPERIENCE!!!!!!! Golf course was beautiful, challenging and in near perfect condition. Greens were great and rolled with some surprising speed. One word of caution...very tough course to play when it's cart on paths especially for a middle aged chubby salesman :). Staff went over and beyond all day and were exceptionally friendly.
Beautiful course
The judge is a very challenging and beautiful course. 14 hole have water -- coming into play at least 10 times. Island par 3 and two other par three's over water. Fairways and sand traps were in great shape. Only thin marginal were the greens, possibly because they were recently sanded and watered -- but one green had some real health problems. The greens are large with a lot of undulation. Overall -- the course is very good -- would love to play it again
The views are awesome
I play golf in Pensacola,Florida most of the terrain is flat, when arriving to the course and noticing all the different elevations on the course especially the 1st tee elevated at 200 feet was absolutely awesome .Hitting to elevated greens especially "chipping" proved to be a challenge but was a fun and different challenge I would with out any hesitation recommend playing this course .
