Good play away from the madding crowd.
Great day for golf. Fairways were well kept. The greens must be recovering from some significant issue as they were all pretty bumpy. I would have thought that they had recently been aerated, but signs at the clubhouse indicated that green aeration was coming in the next few weeks. If they can get the greens in better shape, it will be a great play for the pay. For the time being, I will wait a year to return to allow the course to get their greens back to playing shape.
A "Do over for sure."
This was a pleasant surprise. We were there staying at the Lodge for a wedding and realized the course was just around the corner from the Lodge. Fantastic time, super nice staff, course was in great condition for winter play. This is certainly one I would play again and again. Great value for the Hot Deal. Lots of elevation and lots of blind shots to the green. I really liked it and would not hesitate to recommend this course. Several holes on the back 9 are close to the lake along with breath-taking views. Go play it!
This course has a great layout
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The course played very well and the greens were in "OK" condition but considering it was Feb. I am not surprised. Overall it was a great experience with some large elevation changes on a few holes. Also the amount of wildlife was very suprising. I saw atleast 15 - 20 deer.
Short all day except on the greens!
Always had an extra stroke to get to the greens...maybe one greenie all day. Deceptive approaches... Wide fairways. Greens rolled very well
given the frosts the week before. Want to play it
again when it's got some green in the fairways and on the greens. Decent price for AL state park course.
Several deer...no bears or coyotes.
Challenging course
Very interesting course. Most holes are blinds shots to the green, which makes it quite interesting for first time players. Over all a very nice course and quite challenging. Par 3's are long as is the entire course. You will need some long sticks for the par 5's. Some of the best Bermuda greens I've ever putted on, normally don't like them but these putted very true. enjoy the wildlife. Lots of deer.
Beautiful Fall Day
Course was in excellent condition. It is a tough golf course. I would not recommend it for beginners. There are a lot of blind shots because of the hilly terrain. My only complaint was that the greens were extremely firm. They are very new greens but they will not hold a shot right now.
Good value, always decent condition
i have played this course many times and find it a good value at under $20. The greens and fairways always seem to be decent and other than running into occasional five some the pace of play is fine. Staff and patrons are friendly and willing to let you play through.
Play this course!
Fairways, greens, and tee boxes excellent! As good as any RTJ course, but so much cheaper! Super friendly staff, great layout including doglegs, and elevations. Won't lose balls like other local courses which have tall fringe. Alabama state parks are the best bang for your buck!!
Long course with great wildlife
A beautiful golf course with tons of wildlife. The course is full of deer, rabbits, and ducks with large rolling hills perfect for someone who loves hitting the long ball. Not a ton of water and wide fairways makes it easy to play. Love this place.
Worth the trip
I live about an hour away and I am glad that I took the time to visit this course for the first time. I played on an AM Monday and arrived an hour early and could have started right away... Hit a few balls on the range, 7 out of 10. and practice green, 7 out of 10 as well. Not a very good facility for short game practice or sand (N/A).
Course itself was nice, quite open on the fairways as far as you tee shots.(only played front 9) Greens weren't bad. 8 out of 10 could use a little more water but for the price, quite good. They rolled pretty true. All and All looking forward to a second trip.
Players with a 10 to 20 handicap will enjoy the course for the price paid.
Great course for bogy golfers
Very generous fairways- but the bermuda greens needed water and mowing. It was in the high 90's, so perhaps that's the reason for the bumpy long grass on the greens. The greens do not hold a well placed shot. The rough was a tad long in some areas- nearly lost balls until we walked right over the ball.
The sand in the bunkers was very good- but there are not that many bunkers to hit into. Water did come into play on a couple holes, but only a bad shot brings it into play. I like the fact that the grass on the slopes around the green held up balls from rolling down to the bottom of the slope.
If not for a single bad hole, I would have scored well below my normal round, so the lack of course knowledge did not harm the score. Did I say the greens were slowwwwwwwwwww????
We played the gold tees, which are a significant distance advantage over the whites. I'm looking forward to playing this course again when the greens are fully mature and well watered.
terrible greens
Greens appear immature. Slow and rough. Hopefully they will improve latter on summer
Otherwise a good course.
Great State course
Love the course as it is challenging with many hills and doglegs. The greens were slow today because of heavy rain, but were in great shape rolling true.
