Rained lightly a couple of holes but the sun came our
Very enjoyable round. Some great green complexes that were fun to putt. Conditions were good throughout. And $39 for weekday seniors, can't beat that.
Played on 4/8/18.Day was freezing.
Played solo for both nines.played the white first behind a twosome and a foursome that played way to slow, over 2 and a half hours for nine holes.I went to the starter Mark and told him and he was really cool about it and I played my second nine on the Red and flew through the back nine in little over an hour!
Can't say enough how nice that was of him.
It's early in the season so the course was in ok condition but I'd like to get back in the summer or fall as it seems when it grows in it should be a real fun place to play!
Scenic average course
Played at 8am weekend morning zoomed through 9 holes 1 half hour and hit a back up on the back. Ended up being 4 hour round. Greens were above average condition fairways and tee boxes below average. Scenic at times where holes were close to the river other holes nothing special. Fairly wide open course with a few tight wooded holes mixes in. Staff was friendly enough. I would playy again
Golfing Along the Delaware River
Shawnee Inn is a magnificently understated venue, home to NYC starlets in the Jackie Gleason era, who sought respite from the streets of Wall, and Lexington.
I met Jeremy Wo and immediately got on the Golf Course after a long day of driving into the City, and then back home to Duncansville, PA.
I found the course in immaculate condition, the greens rolling nicely.
One overt missing item... is yardage markers.
Overall the Course is beautifully and majestically nestled among the Delaware River Valley.
Fun all around track with great layout
Tilly's first design! Always nice to come out to this nostalgic golf resort. I myself is a big fan of traditional hotels and golf course design. Love the picutures of past celebrities like Bob Hope, Jackie Gleason and of course Arnold Palmer. If you're a person who insists on staying at a resort with boujee amenities, this place isn't for you.
Despite being a Tillinghast design, it's fun for all levels of play. It's his first design course which opened in 1911 so don't expect it to be as challenging as Winged Foot, Baltusrol, or Bethpage black.
With the price of stay and play and being close to New York City, there really isn't a reason not to visit if you're close to the area.
One of the best golf courses
I enjoyed all 18 holes with other 3 players. I love the wide open layout. Too bad no longer available with golfnow.com.
Nice Course, But Only a Few Memorable Holes
Course was in good condition. Greens were true and running a good speed. There are a few very nice, memorable holes, but overall, the layout can be a bit monotonous. Some greens had pin placements where you could not stop the ball near the hole, nor even on the green. Par 3s are long from the back tees and Par 5s are long as well. It is a very nice course, but not something where every hole will impress you. Also, even in mid-October, there were gnats all over the place which made it hard to concentrate, especially when putting. Even with the pros and cons, it is definitely worth playing.
Course offers great views and a challenging layout. The course is well maintained.
course in great shape
greens were in good cond considering they were recently aerated.fairway in great shape an over all excellent bang for the buck
Nice course but not very challenging
I believe Shawnee is a quite enjoyable course but ideal for a >10 hp. The red course in particular is not very challenging and, even if I played from the blue tees, it is not very long. Frankly expected a little more from a Thillingast course.
Had more fun on the more recently built White 9 holes which have more doglegs and are more ondulated. Greens are quite small but last Friday they were a little slow. Pace of play was ok but on the first nine we had a group of 4 (father, mother and 2 kids) where only the father knew how to play. Golf balls were hitten everywere and they had no idea of etiquette on the course. When I complained at the 10th tee I was told that as we were a twosome we should have expected to wait (but that was not my point!). Fortunately on the second nine they were sent on the Blue while we played the White.
Overall an ok experience but if you want a challenging and really beautiful course drive 10 minutes North to Great Bear!
Always play here a couple of times a year wide fairways bald eagles flying by relaxing experience
This course is very well maintained. The tee boxes were ALL in very good shape, greens were excellent and fast. The fairways were also in decent shape, a few of the dark brown patches here and there which Charlie from the staff told us was disease they were fighting this year. Courses around Ocean County, NJ right now all have tons of those dead, dark brown patches. All in all a great course to play, not particularly hard, great shape, friendly, helpful staff. I don't think I would pay full price for it ($90 weekends) but with the GolfNow deal it was perfect!
To many people golfing 27 holes are to close together I felt rushed all day and there was golf balls flying everywhere
Different and Enjoyable, a must play course
Personnel friendly and helpful. Good practice facility. Challenging lay out, greens in good shape. Enjoyed playing here.
I hadn't played the course in over 2o years. It was nice to be back. The greens were fantastic and the course maintenence was great. The bunkers could use more sand, but they weren't bad at all. Scenic, peaceful and challenging enough for all levels of play.
We caught up to a outing ahead of us on the 15th hole, but otherwise it was clear sailing.
Really enjoyed the course.
Will definitely play here again
Lots of doglegs
I played on a weekday morning, and the course wasn't heavily packed. My first time playing this course. I played the white/blue.
Course was in pretty good shape. Fairways were good with only occasional problems in the rough. Tee boxes were well kept and the markers move often to keep them fresh. The greens were in very good shape and rolled consistent. Speed was a little faster than average but not a problem. The greens weren't overly difficult as a rule, but a few were a challenge.
They had lots of marshals to help at the intersection of the 3 nine hole segments. Food truck and snack building were good, clubhouse had some good merchandise selection.
The course isn't super long and the difference between whites and blues didn't seem much different to account for the yardage listed. But honestly they may have been further up than normal. It's generally flat and lots of doglegs. I played a good variety of clubs during the round which I enjoy. Most everyone will like playing the course. As for it being a resort, its older and this course doesn't stand up to most of them in the poconos region. But playing this after the Nicklaus designed course they also manage might be a nice break. It's a good course to play overall.
Fairways and ruff in good condition, sand traps need work
Very nice course, has great history and trees are an assist. Service was very good traps need some TLC.
Shawnee golf course
As always this course was in excellent shape from tees to greens very well maintained. Had an early tee time and my two sons and I were out in under four hours was almost like speed golf. Even though I had a real bad day hitting the ball...... I can't blame it on the course, have played here several times this year and is always enjoyable even if I don't hit well. I fell this is a real gem in the poconos. Love this course even if it beats me up.
