Golf Advisor: Top 25 Most Improved U.S. Golf Courses (2020 #4)
Reviews
If all you want to do is play cheap golf and you don't care about the shape of a course, then play here.
Booked a $10 hot deal and we thought it would be a decent course, by that I mean we thought it would be worth the normal Friday rate ($27 with a cart). Our assumption could not have been more wrong. The grounds conditions were deplorable from the tee box to the greens on every hole, and the grounds crew started mowing in the middle of the day when the course was full. There were bare spots everywhere, and the course had no truly defined fairways. There were branches and burn piles in between fairways and under trees. The tee boxes were riddled with bare spots (from a lack of watering, not divots). The carts were clearly not washed after the previous day; beer had been spilled in 3 of the four cup holders and on the floorboard, so most of the cart was sticky and smelled like stale beer. No actual practice chipping or putting green, they just mowed a bare spot by the first tee and threw down a couple of pins and cups. The best part of the course (and really the only positive part of the course) was the nice lady in the pro-shop bar and the beer prices.
No Walk Ups Allowed
Course is empty. 12 carts sitting there. No one teed off for an hour and a half. Still would not take our money and let us play. It’s a failing business that is determined to fail. The two greens that were in sight from the club house were poor excuses for a green. All dirt. The putting green is a garden for weeds. The chipping green looks like it was trampled on by a herd of cattle.
Great Value
Fun little course. Challenging narrow fairways and small greens.
Our New Home Course
A lot of golf snobs look down on this little course but my family enjoys it. With the small greens it takes a good shot to hit and hold the green. Yes the fairways are not in great condition but for the price it is very affordable to take my two boys and my wife for a golf outing. Name another place you can play 18 holes for under $60
Wouldn’t recommend playing this course it’s a mess. The workers are really nice though and the carts are gas powered which is cool . I wouldn’t play here again unless it’s really cheap
Moe, Larry, Curly
Great cool day @ The Pines. Our home course. Close to the house and reasonably priced!
The pines
Greens rough but have improved.
Fairways need more grass.
Tee boxes are mostly dirt, hard to put a tee in.
Very Poor
I’ll start by saying I know this course is cheap and you get what you pay for. If you enjoy golf in any way shape or form stay away. No grass on course, tee boxes look like sand traps, greens look like a mine field. The people who “play” here that are wearing cut off jeans and a Dale Earnhardt tee shirt have absolutely no idea how to conduct themselves on a golf course. Worst course I’ve ever been to.
Drought
This is probably not a fair review for my first time there because we are in the middle of a severe drought. The course has no watering capabilities and as such much of the grass was dead. The fairways were hard-pack, so I did get lots distance with the roll. However most of the tee boxes here hard dirt with no grass. I was timidly using my driver for fear of damaging it. It may take some time for the turf to recover if it ever starts raining again.
