Great Course Great Value
Do not pass up this course when traveling in State College area.
Beautiful Course
The course is beautiful and was in great shape. We enjoyed spending a lovely, sunny, Fall afternoon on the Toftrees Golf Course!
A great layout.
This was my first time playing this course. The fairways are wide and forgiving. The course was in excellent shape. I struggled with the greens but they too were in excellent condition. Looking forward to returning and playing here again.
The people at this course are great
Toftrees golf course is a very nice course the people that work in the pro shop are great and the people that work in the club house serves great food and are very friendly. The only bad thing about this golf course is it's expensive to play there.
Happy Valley beautiful
Billy the starter was best ever. They had an outing earlier in the day so it was a bit tracked up on the greens. They need to put out some signs to repair ball marks on the greens. Way to many.
Overall it was a spectacular day. That course is bangin!!
A very good course which is highly maintained with challenging greens.
Will return
Wife and I had fun playing this course in a light rain fall. Balls checked up good. That was a big plus
Great staff and beautiful course
Very friendly staff and a fun course. Many elevation changes with thick first cut rough so keep it in the short grass and you will have good time.
Pace was awful.
The pace of play was incredibly bad. We were a two some and took over 5 hours to play. No ranger on the course to help faster groups get by slower when they refused to let us play through. Will never play there when it's busy again.
Challenging for all skill levels
This course offers a challenge for all golfers. The elevation changes from tee to green put a premium on iron shots and club selection. Around the greens you'll need a 'Lock Pickers Touch' with your short game as the green will run out and provide some tricky undulating putts. You will use every shot you have in the bag at some point. Do if you're looking for a fair challenge and test of your game then this is your next stop.
Greens were lightning fast, layout good
Service wasn't as good as I'd expected for a resort, but it was past summertime so maybe staffing levels were low. Price was very good for the condition of the course.
Layout was good. Not overly difficult. Course was wet from recent rains and rough was thick at places. Wet lies in some others, but in areas as expected. If you were in the rough on some holes it greatly affected reaching the greens.
Sand traps were in good shape. Not overly soft but raked and maintained as you'd want.
Tee boxes were all in good shape. Lots of tee box options to let you pick your challenge.
Fairways were the same as the rough. All well maintained and some were a bit too wet due to the rain. Only one fairway, number 8, wasn't in great condition and was under repair and well marked for you to see from the tee box.
So the kicker is the greens. Extremely fast. I golf frequently and I couldn't adjust until the back nine, 3 putting 7 of the first 9. I think the back nine are more flat than the front. I would have preferred it the opposite to get the speed down first. All were playing the same so the maintenance crew knows their job. So this is the kind of course where you need to hit your approach shots and get it close in hopes of two putting and par the hole. This is what killed my scoring as the layout was manageable.
There was minimal water hazards, nothing like island greens or a plethora of traps.
Nice course but other than the greens it's an average course that's well maintained with greens that will spank you if not ready.
Fall Golf at Toftrees
Front nine is beautiful - huge white pines border the fairways. That nine is in great condition. Several memorable holes. A delight to play.
The back nine is regrettably the opposite - holes lack distinction, poor design and not in very good condition. Three holes are adjacent to a noisy road.
Pace of play also bogged down on the back.
4-5 stars for the front nine and 1-2 stars for the back.
The pro shop employees were friendly and helpful.
Bucket List
Beautiful scenery, upscale facilities, excellent staff, challenging course. Put this one on your list.
Beautiful Setting
Very pretty course at a conference center near Penn State. Front nine is pretty straightforward, back nine a little trickier. The weather has been so weird that it affects conditions everywhere, but overall I'd say it was in good-to-excellent condition. I expected the greens to be faster, but of course that varies. Overall not what I would call a destination course, but a very nice round in pleasant surroundings. It was pretty empty so no real comment on the pace of play, but I got around quickly. Staff was fine.
Very Nice Course
Had some time during a conference, played 16 holes in 2 hours. The course was in excellent shape, staff was great and obviously the pace of play was very good on a Monday afternoon. The course does run up and down hills, greens were in very good shape. You sill use all your clubs.
good mountain course
I frequently play this course & enjoy the challenge. In good conditions now with quick green speeds. Golf now price was great. I recommend you play up a tee box unless you are a low handicap player.
