Timberlane Golf & Recreation
About
When Timberlane Golf & Recreation opened in 1959 as Timerlane Country Club, it was the first private golf club on the west bank of the Mississippi. The oaks planted at that time have beautifully matured, adding to both the scenery and difficulty of the golf course. Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed the course, crafting a challenging test that has been ranked as one of the most difficult golf courses in the country. You'll have to contend with 80 strategically placed sand bunkers and 17 different water hazards. While the course is not overly punishing, you'll have to be prepared to have every aspect of your game tested. Before tackling Timberlane''s golf course you may find it helpful to warm up using the club's all-grass driving range and you can use the large putting green to practice with putting, chipping, and sand play.

Terrible course terrain - WAY TO LONG
Just finished my 1st round at this course, and I will not be back unless the prices become sub $40! The holes were way too long on the par 4 holes. You can tell they attempted to shorten it, but still not enough. Pace of was ok considering it was later in the day.
The worse part about this experience was the terrain! The cart path AND the fairways was SUPER rough and bumpy & the grass was so long it was hard to find a ball even if you were just a foot or two in the rough
Long Holes with Terrible Conditions
Played this course for the first time with a buddy. We paid $40 which during one of the hot deals which seems normal for a public course in New Orleans. But the fairway was almost all dirt with some sand and a few blades of grass mixed in. The rough was so unkempt that you can’t find half of the balls that miss the dirt in the fairway.
The only saving grace of this course seemed to be the greens which looked pristine. But they rolled in such a way that they were almost impossible to read, and unpredictable. Overall, not worth half the money to play here. Only fun part was getting to swing true with a driver on all the par 4’s and 5’s.
Food at the turn is good and reasonably priced. And the cook was very nice. All other employees seemed to not care.
Great Day
This was the first time playing this course and the first time playing in over 2 years and had a blast. Really nice course...will def play here again.
Bad Shape but Quick Play
The fairways need a lot of work done to them. The greens weren’t too bad. We enjoyed playing there and willl do so again.
Not Golf Now friendly
We arrived early for our tee time. There was no one on the first hole (par 5) and as far as we could see past it. No one was in the parking lot unloading clubs or loading a cart. The starter told us that if we booked on line with Golf Now that we had to adhere to our tee time, even though no one was around, BTW, front nine fairways mostly mud.
Dry fairways
The drought has hit the fairways hard. Not a lot of grass. The greens are decent. Sand traps not consistent.
Timberlane golf course.
I was surprised. I was in town for vacation and this might have been one of the worst golf courses that I've ever played on.I mean, the greens were terrible. For a supposedly good course, those greens should be beneath you. Please get it together!
Greens need a lot of work.
Course itself wasn’t in bad condition and I always enjoy playing it. My main complaint is the condition of the greens. You basically tried to hit the ball towards the hole and hope you get close.
Greens not too good
Overall, this is a great course. Staff is very good, from the pro shop to the starter. Tee boxes are a little raggedy right now. At lest 6 of the greens are not in good shape. I don't know what the problem is, but there are a lot of bald spots. Hopefully they get them under control. Still a great course that I enjoy playing. FYI, greens will be aerated on 5/22.
Thankyou for leaving us a review and we appreciate you for continuing to stick it out with us! The greens are currently in their transition phase between winter to summer turf and will be back to normal in no time!
Thankyou for leaving us a review! The green conditions are not something we are proud of right now but they will be back to normal in no time! They are currently transitioning from winter grass to summer grass which is where you see some of the burnout on the turf. Thanks!
