Nice Course, just needs some water

Play played this course in the Freeland Open. The course layout is very nice, the Back nine is more wooded, while the front nine is more open. When we played the course was very firm and fast making it more difficult. Some more watering will make the green receptive to good shots and allow them to hold.

Sugarloaf

The course was in excellent shape and the pace of play was just fine. The food was good and the beer was cold.

Idk what happened

Booked on tee off, for a 4 some. Paid $28 to reserve the 10am tee time. Showed up got charged $12 on top of it and an additional $49 on top of that. So there’s money I won’t get back… when I go golfing I expect 18 holes to be 3 hrs maybe a little faster if I’m not being held up on my own. We had our group and one guy playing bad and it took 4hrs pretty reasonable I think. We waited about 5-10 minutes per hole from it being crowded, at some point the starter asked us to pick up our pace of play because they were getting complaints. The grounds are hard as a rock, despite all the sprinklers they have installed. The course used to be much nice. Looks like they invested in their pro shop instead this year.

Great Family Owned Course

This is a great family owned course. Always open weather permitting and always in good shape. The staff is excellent and the recently remodeled clubhouse is great.

Views Worth A Look

Sugarloaf Mountain was the star attraction for this round. Wonderfully scenic views on a fun course with good bones; the overall condition of the course was somewhat poor. The greens were all in very good shape, but there are fairways with little to no grass in many places. No rakes to be found by the traps. If this course managed to reach full bloom it would be a no-brained recommendation, but as is it’s tough to recommend as it’s a fair drive from just about anywhere. If you place a high value on scenery, it’s perfectly reasonable value for money.

What’s happening people??

So I paid a reservation fee yesterday, and this morning I got charged full price for 2 players plus an additional charge idk anything about. We had a group of 4 my other 2 friends paid separately, I should have only been charged for the other half of my rate plus the friend I paid for.

Fairways were rock hard and the course was packed. Pace of play was normal we finished in 4 hrs, we had a 3 some behind us a single in front and a 4 some in front of him, we were all waiting but for some reason our group got called out for taking too long when we were waiting just as much as everyone else.

I don’t think I’m going to be going back there again. 3rd time playing, I like the course but I’m not dealing with that nonsense again.

Course shouldn’t have over booked, and if your gonna golf plan to be out for 3 hrs or don’t go…

One of my favorites

Challenging course. Rated 120 slope from whites, but elevation changes and hazards make it play much higher IMO.

Lots of blind tee shots, long par 3s, uphill/downhill fairways, and well protected greens with surrounding bunkers make accuracy a requirement to score well..everything was in great shape and the greens were rolling well, especially given the recent weather.
One of my new favorites in the NEPA area!

Nice layout but the greens need attention

The course has a very nice layout. The front 9 is a little more open. The back plays more like target golf, not just grabbing driver a blasting away, at least for my group. The fairways were in good shape, and were firm giving the ball a lot of rollout. The rough was decent length. There is a lot of blind tee shots, so if it's your first time playing the course, take a ride up the hole a bit and find a target. There isn't much trouble off the tees but it will help with make a confident swing off the tee.

Now for the greens.... The greens are rock hard to say the least. I am a high ball hitter and sand wedges were bouncing like landing on concrete, getting no spin and rolling out off the back of the greens. Not even a ball mark on any shot into the greens. I am all for a firm golf course but good shots should be rewarded with an occasional bad break. If the pin was in the back of the green or middle, it wasn't too bad because you could land the ball short and let it bounce up,even with wedges. If the pin was in the front, forget about even getting it close or on the green because the approaches would bounce the ball crazy directions and were equally as rock hard. You could heard the firmness when the ball landed. The pin locations were in very tough locations for the firmness of the greens. Again, I am all for tough pin locations, but the course conditions need to dictate that. I thought the green would be a lot faster with the firmness but were very slow. A lot of old cups on the greens need attention and are not healing and there is a lot of bare spot on the fringes.

If it wasn't for the greens, I would give this course a higher rating, but the greens are the main part of the course. I can deal with a so-so course if it has good greens....just not the other way around.

We played on a Monday night and got a $20 deal. We played in three and a half hours and had no one in front of us. It was one of the nice parts about the day. They do have a driving range there that is enough to get some swings in. The range tee is very beat up and the driving range goes up hill. Like I said, good enough to get a couple swings in.

Nice layout, frindely staff, greens need attention.

This course is in the country away from everything. It’s quiet and the people, players and staff all have that small town kindness I appreciate. The layout is really good. Front nine is more open and exposed to wind. The back nine tightens up and has some woods,, hills, water and unique holes. It kept me interested throughout.

The price is hard to beat. 18 holes on a Friday afternoon for $20. The tee boxes, fairways and traps were all decent. The traps were well kept but not fine sand. Very small pebbles but it played consistently. The greens are the one knock on the course. Many needed healing. Seems all the rain left them splotchy, but they were mowed generally low. Because of the wet season balls didn’t roll in the fairways and the greens held shots very well.

We stayed for drinks and food and I wasn’t sure how it would be, as it’s open, friendly and warm, but dated. Well fool me. The soup was something I’d never heard of and loved, and the two flavors of wings we had were very good.

The afternoon was Enjoyable. Simply put. Now if you want higher quality greens and such, don’t go, but it wasn’t that bad and I enjoyed everything else. The operators, that I assumed are the owners, are genuinely nice.

Greens are failing, otherwise in good shape

The greens are in bad shape. Many Black and bare spots, old cups not growing back. They look like they were stressed and were unable to recover. While the greens were good and had pace, the dead and dying spots are very worrisome.

I overheard the greens keeper saying he had no idea what was causing the problem.

I’d give them a couple of weeks and hope they can get them fixed

Friendly staff, happy to oblige, but course needs help.
