English Turn Golf & Country Club
About
English Turn Golf & Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus design that was crafted in 1988 to host the New Orleans PGA Tour event. Nicklaus designed the course to be enjoyed equally by spectators and golfers, incorporating gallery berms and spectator mounds throughout. This challenging design is known for its undulating greens that will test even the most seasoned players. Each hole has a unique design that combines strategically placed bunkers, including large waste bunkers, and sloping grass swales. There is also carefully sculpted mounding along the edges of the fairways. On top of that, water comes into play on nearly every hole. English Turn's signature hole, the 15th, is a tricky par 5 with an island green but it's the final hole, a par 4 with water all along the left side, that is rumored to be the golf course's toughest.

Solid all around place
Food staff course all very good. Greens were recovering but very playable. I recommend it
English Turn
First of all we were greeted by two nice young men in the parking lot that loaded our bags on the carts and drove them to the cart area. Once inside the pro shop we were greeted by a very helpful young lady who got us checked in for our tee time. Range balls included in the price. Visited the well maintained driving range; extremely deep range and numerous areas to hit from.
We reported to the first tee where we were greeted and instructed about the course by a retired Marine who was very informative.
The course in in extremely great shape, fairways were well maintained and awesome to hit off of.
The greens were true to the Marine’s description; fast. They were a little firm as well. Have a good chipping game available as it will be used often.
Overall I was very pleased with my first visit to the course. I will return and now that I know the layout I expect better from my game.
Greens
The greens are always in great shape. They roll vast and look healthy.
Surprised
Overly surprised on course, layout and conditions of the course were very good. We did play later in the day so I know the greens were a little slower due to them growing but I will definitely play it again!
James, the starter did an excellent job explaining the golf course and what to watch out for
Great Layout, Fun to Play, Fair Condition
Played this for the first time with my son on a great day. Course layout was really nice with plenty of challenges from the back tees. Course conditions were fair; greens had recently been aerated and grass overall was a bit disappointing for the status of the course. If the turf was in good to excellent shape, this would be a 5 star track.
We were a twosome but pace of play was fairly slow because of groups ahead and we waited on most shots; however, we still finished in about 4 hours. Some members behind us were not happy about the pace and hit into us a couple of times and made a small scene with the ranger at the turn regarding slow play and then headed back to the first tee to start again.
We definitely enjoyed the day; the staff was great; and will return to play again during our next NOLA visit.
A side note...I have been wanting to get to this course for years on past visits to NOLA but read some mixed reviews. My overall impression was that this facility and course were big time in the 80's and 90's until Katrina hit it hard. It still feels like they are trying to get everything back but you almost feel like you back in time a few decades. There are signs of what it was in its heyday including memorabilia and artifacts from the PGA events. I don't want to put it down because once the TPC took the PGA event away after Katrina, it really dealt yet another blow to the ability of the course to maintain its brilliance.
I look forward to getting back there again soon and hope it can continue to improve going forward.
Awesome Course - Very Tough
So so so happy I finally came down to play this one. I played pretty miserably, but this is one of those courses where you can play awful and still have a great time. Highly recommend!
Fantastic!
What a treat! One of my best rounds of the year golf wise and the course layout and staff friendliness! James the starter is one of the best if ever come across! True Southern hospitality! The layout was fantastic a fun Nicklaus design with water on almost every hole! Pace was great and the course conditions were great for April. Can’t wait to see it in June/July. Have a GPS handy this is not your driver on every tee box course! Super fun track!
Mr James was an awesome starter! First time playing it since they redone it! Greens were rolling great and true! Courses was difficult as always! Had to wait for a high school tournament to finish before we could tee off pushed us back 30 minutes but overall can’t wait to play it again t
Excellent course
First time playing this course and it did not disappoint. Water comes into play on nearly every hole and there were a lot more bunkers than I’m used to but it still didn’t feel like an unfair design. The course itself was in great shape. Fairways were awesome and the greens were fast and well kept. The starter, Mr James is very efficient at keeping people paired properly and his course info is epic! Slightly slow play but considering it was the day after Easter and the weather was perfect that was to be expected. Would love to play this beauty again.
Great track
Tough, fun course in excellent shape. Very nice people working there. I'll be back
Close to NOLA, good, and not overly expensive
Good track, convenient to downtown. Pretty generous off the tee, but with water on 17 of 18 holes. Approaches are more demanding and greens are tough. No gps in carts and plenty of hazards; a handheld gps is helpful to see hole layouts. I got a reduced green fee because I was a single and the particular tee time only had room for one player.
