Cobb's Glen Country Club
About
Cobb's Glen Country Club is named after its designer, George Cobb, a Georgia native who lived in Greenville most of his life. He designed many golf courses in the South, including the par-3 course at Augusta National. The golf course sprawls across rolling terrain blanketed with mature forests. Opened in 1976, the layout may be more traditional than modern golf courses but it still presents one of the area's most formidable challenges. The course has hosted a variety of events over the years including the U.S. Open Qualifier and the South Carolina Amateur Championship. There are 90 bunkers strategically placed throughout, and the greens are lightning fast. The 11th is one of the most memorable holes. This par 3 plays over water to a triple-tiered green that is flanked by three bunkers on the right, one for each tier.

Cobbs Glenn in decline
I use to play this course regularly about 4 years ago but stopped when they stopped offering hot deals. At the time it was in pretty good shape. They later started offering again but at a significantly higher price. I played it a couple of years ago and noted the course was not in good shape and the greens were in decline. This time the greens were in terrible shape. They were for the most part completely brown and in many areas the grass was dried and matted. They don't appear to be taking care of the place. The golf carts were filthy. I had to clean my bag after the round. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Winter freeze killed the greens
Played Cobbs Glen on 2/19/23. The greens, which are usually pretty good here, were dead. We had a deep freeze at the end of December and it is obvious that these greens were not covered. It makes playing this course not enjoyable. Putts bounce a lot and there are plenty of dead spots on these greens. I will wait until springtime to play here again. Hopefully the greens aren't too far gone. Preventative maintenance pays for itself when it comes to a golf course. Spend the money now, or suffer later. I don't understand why this was allowed to happen. Other courses in the area took proper precautions and now they are seeing the benefits. Do better, Cobbs. Yes I'm mad about it because I consider this to be my home course, even though I'm not a member.
Needs Help
Have played here multiple times in the last year and it seems to get a little worse every time. Currently, the tee boxes are pretty thrashed and the greens have these small buds of weeds or different turf popping up all over them causing putts to not roll true and bumping your ball off line. Some greens have a gnarly fungus but they do a good job of cutting the hole away from that damage.
This place has such excellent potential if they just took better care of tees and greens.
On a good note, the staff has always been 5 Stars.
Nice layout, needs some TLC
First time on Cobb's Glen and will try it again in the Spring. Greens had tons of little weed sprigs (poa?) that made putting kind of silly. Neat layout several challenging doglegs. Lots of cart path damage. Nice group and staff, overall enjoyable but greens on other courses in the area are in better shape.
Fun course!
I really like this course and love the layout. I live in the Atlanta area, but come to this area every month to see my grandson and I have played all the local Anderson courses that are public, but Cobb’s Glen CC is definitely, in my opinion, the best. The greens (minus some rough spots) were soft, rolled true, and quick—nice! This was only my second time playing the course, but I look forward to coming back in the spring and summer when the fairways are plush. Par-threes are very challenging. You won’t be disappointed if you play it—it’s a fun course!
Greens are rough
Greens are in bad shape, especially for this time of year. Fairways aren’t bad, I’d say half the traps have decent sand. Not a nice course by any means, but surrounded by a nice neighborhood. Those poor greens though just make it a frustrating round.
Poor conditions
Greens were very inconsistent, cut at different lengths, and had a bunch of dead spots.
Usually the course is in much better shape. I’m hoping it was just due to some late freezes this spring.
Nice Golf Course
Nice course layout and good working golf carts. The greens were a little inconsistent but that is too be expected during late winter and I’m sure by summer time they will be perfect. Staff was friendly and helpful. We will be back.
Plays Longer than the yardage on the scorecard
This review is from the forward tees.
One of the ladies I played with is a member and she said it plays long and her statement was true. I found I did club up on a number of holes; which might be due to the fact many of the greens are very big and the day we played there were many back pins.
The front nine is fairly straightforward off the tee with many holes - you get what you see. On the back nine there are more holes (#14,15, 17) with water (forced carries). They are not particularly hard but you need to get the correct distance. For example on 15, the fairway runs downhill closer to the water so take that into consideration.
The greens are tricky because they are big and so you really need to know where the pin is located. I noted a lot of the greens ran back to front.
I enjoyed the course and liked the fact that the front and back gave you a variety of holes.
Other notes:
Staff was very friendly
Nice driving range and putting green available to warmup
The cafe is nice and there is also a nice deck to sit outside.
Great round with my son.
The course is in great shape right now. There are a couple of greens with some bad spots but the pins are no where near them. The rough is thick as it should be with all the rain and sun that we’ve had lately so hit it straight. Fairways are perfect!
Like the course
Enjoyed playing at this course. It was a little tricky because it was our first time playing this course but we had a good time. The only draw back was there were spots on some of the greens that I think the heat got too. But other than that I liked the layout of the course and hopefully get to play there again one day.
Awesome Layout
Enjoyed the setup and layout of the course. Looks like the greens are being worked on for a couple of the holes but very playable. Enjoyed our time there and will be back.
Bad bunkers
I enjoy playing Cobbs. Some shots have to be precise or missed in the right spots. Greens on 4,5,9 can be absolutely brutal. Several others (11,13,14 and 18) can be tough also. Several holes water and trees are a factor. But the bunkers are absolutely TERRRRRIBLE! Several are just packed dirt and are unplayable. You can have a 80 degree wedge and still not get under the ball. Please Cobbs, make the bunkers playable or just fill the things in and plant grass.
Always a good time
Really fun course. Was in need of a mow from tee to green, but great layout and green are in really great shape. Pace of play is much better than the busy courses around Greenville.
Lies don’t make excuses we have no winter
