The course has an interesting layout I found refreshing. Very scenic with abundant wildlife. The course was pretty wet from heavy rain during the week, but appeared to hold up well. Some of the greens have some sandy patches, which detract some from play. The staff were very friendly. The in house grill was pretty impressive as well.
Thank you for the 4-Star review!
I play Old South everytime I come down to Hilton Head. It is one of my favourite courses. The prices have increased lately but that did not deter. We had an earlier time and the weather was comfortable. The greens and course were a little soggy in spots and some greens were showing signs of fatigue but all was still good. I enjoy the layout and the scenery and pleasantness of the staff. It is easily accessible and close to the Island. If there is an opening on golf Now , I will certainly be back.
Thank you for the 5-Star review!
Thanks for your 5-star review. We hope to see you again soon.
A must play golf course
We always play old south when we are in the area.
Course is in great condition and the greens are running true.
Definitely recommend this course, great value and one of the best in the area.
We appreciate your loyalty and the 5 star review!
The variety of challenges was excellent I was a single player placed with three others. I really enjoyed meeting and playing with the others (Dean, Mark and Ann). Would definitely do it again. Great value.
Some improvments required
The greens were a little tough to read due to being top dressed. We were not informed about this from GolfNow.
The tee boxes were bad. The top dressing done over the years was only to the centre of the tee box creating a tee box with a hill in the centre no flat place to tee off. in the picture attached you cant see the second tee marker.
Every other course we have played on Hilton Head Island over the past two weeks included practise balls
GolfNow is informed of procedures that will close the course but not routine maintenance which is often dependent on weather and staffing. Tee boxes are on the list for improvements over the winter. We do not include range balls to keep our green fee rates competitive.
Thanks for the 5 star review. We hope you get to play at Old South again soon.
This is a Sneaky But Fun to Play Course
Old South is a well-managed and very customer friendly golf course.
Adam was our cart guy and he was helpful and efficient.
Betty in the pro shop was smiling and informative.
Walt, the retired Air Force officer who served in the same part of Nam that I did was a good story teller.
They have almost new practice balls and they give a large bucket to hit. This course is popular and gets plenty of play.
There are lots of hazards here in addition to the Gator who lounges on a rock in front of the clubhouse.
They haven't had rain in awhile and they are quite dry. Several of the fairways and greens have been impacted.
There are a few long challenging long marsh carries on holes #8, #16, and 17. These are 150 yard carries uphill into the wind over a marsh.
Despite the tricky 90 degree holes over marshes, most of the holes
are set up to be fair and with par attainable.
The design is a classic links course with plenty of berms and elevated greens. The green on #11 was a corker. The greens on hole #14, and #18 are in tough shape.
They have a cheerful Ranger on patrol constantly to check on any delays.
Old South is a tough/fun golf course. It's a Keeper.
This course has an interesting layout
Played this course many times, always enjoy the layout. Noticed this time around that some of the teeing areas are in rough shape. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable experience.
We appreciate the 4 star review and tee boxes are on the list for improvements over the winter.
It has been a few years since I have played Old South and forgot just how challenging this course is. It was a fun day even with the greens recently being top dressed they were just a little slower but ran just fine. I will definitely be making a quicker return to play Old South in the future.
We appreciate the 5 star review. Over-seeding can't be avoided at this time of year but we are glad you still had fun and enjoyed your day. We hope to see you again soon.
Old South was on our list to play. It is a nice course. Some tricky holes but overall a fun time. Greens at this time are a bit dicy but the overseeding season just started. There are some greens that are pretty eaten up with fungus. However, as I said is was a great time and we would play it again for the price.
Fun course Great staff !
This was my first time playing Old South. 3 guys I golfed with the day before from Canada, New York, and Portland recommend I play this fun course. I was a single player. Jim. the course starter was very welcoming to me. He was most kind to me and put me with a local twosome on the tee now. Will was an on course marshal that day.We saw him many times during the round checking on us that all was moving along. The course top dressed the greens and that made them slow to putt. The layout is not boring and fun to play. I will return here when visting Hilton Head and will also recommend this to other golfers . This is a well run golf course with employees I would want working for me .
We appreciate hearing about our great employees by name! Old South is fun to play and look forward to seeing you again in the future.
Thanks for your 4-star review. We hope to see you again.
Fairways in great shape. Greens seem to have suffered some damage.
A few of the greens have an issue our maintenance staff is working to correct. We appreciate your 4 star review as a great comment on your over-all experience at Old South.
Disappointed in the greens
Have played this course many times since it first opened. Today was the first time I would have to say the condition of the greens was very disappointing. Some really bad places, so much so that we just moved the ball to not have to putt through the bad parts. There are also some tees that have very little flat ground, resulting in that small area being worn out and lacking grass. Love the layout and the nice views along the marsh areas. Cart path only because of rain 2 days earlier was disappointing, especially for us old guys, resulting in a 5 hour round.
Great course. Would definitely recommend and consider playing again. Back 9 are wider than front 9. Small greens. A great challenging course.
Thanks for your 5 star review. Both nines at Old South Golf Links are scenic and challenging and we hope you get to play again soon.
Thanks for your 5 star review. The course can be a challenge and we are glad you enjoyed it. We hope you play Old South again soon.
