The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

Too many people on the golf course

We got to the point that we had 3 groups on a tee box. That’s disgusting. When I arrived to drop my bag there was nobody there. After dropping my bag someone in a bad mood showed up. When I finished and took the cart back two guys working there just looked at me getting my bag out myself and leaving the power cart in the middle of the road without helping or directing me. I just do not understand that kind of behaviour from the employees.

A Good Track in Decent Condition

We like Old South, have played it many times. We had an early (and a bit chilly) tee time, which helped us make the 18 holes in 3:47. Greens were excellent condition for the season, though a little bit slow. The 2 sort of signature holes, 7 & 16, are a challenge, but fun.

We appreciate your thoughtful comments and the 4 star review. 7 and 16 can be a challenge but you can't beat the views!

Harrisburg Golfers

Very nice course but challenging for the first time out this year. Hitting over 2 march areas with a dogleg is sadistic. I donated a couple of balls on that hole. We saw a mammoth gater at tbe 19th hole. We had a GREAT time.

Great course!

First time playing this course and we've been to Hilton Head for 12 years in a row. What a great course, the best conditioned greens we found this week, still play a little slow for my liking but the condition of the greens and the course is fantastic.

A couple of Very Different split fairway holes that force an acurate first and second shot. This is a must play and if you get lucky to find a Hot Deal as we did it can be an awesome deal as well!

We'll be back likely every year to play again.

Fun, Respectable Course

Old South was a fun course - tough...but not too tough, creative, and priced fairly on an Island where courses can run a bit expensive.

This isn't the fault of the course, but we were behind a foursome that killed the pace of play - we're talking a half hour per hole. We were forced to wait...and groups were stacking up behind us, as well. It took two calls to the clubhouse to get a ranger out there - twice - to resolve the situation. Overall - it too 5.5 hours to play 18 holes on a very clear and sunny day - too long.

Other than that, the course was really nice, and the employees were really helpful and friendly - we'll be back. Thanks!

We apologize for the slow play. Our rangers do their best to keep the pace of play where it should be, but without the cooperation of a slow group there is not much they can do. We hope you get to play again at our target pace of 4 hours 20 minutes.

Great course; great value!

Played on the recommendation of a friend the day before we played Harbour Town. Different style course but a true Low Country course. Enjoyed it immensely. Will definitely play it on my next trip to HHI. And not to know Harbour Town (which I greatly enjoyed), but given a choice between 5 rounds here or one round there for the same price, I likely would pick Old South.
