No self respecting superintendent would use zoysia grass on greens or mats on par 3’s.
ZOYSIA GREENS!
I asked other superintendent’s if they would use Zoysia on their greens. They usually laugh in my face or simply scoff at the idea.
Who would do such a thing one asked, the Walker course, that’s who!
Add to that the incredible slow play and you’ve just shot your day!
And now they have these silly little mats on the tees of the par 3 holes. Really, could you be anymore low rent than that?
Zoysia is a weed not a green
Zoysia greens? Zoysia greens!
These are the worst excuse for greens I have ever played. Sure they look pretty but putt awful. Will not hold there line, Two putts on the same line will actually break in different directions. They are very difficult to hold approach shots on too. Greens are like trampolines. The ball just goes bounding past the hole and off the green.
The course is often way too wet so you’re playing a lot of muddy balls.
This is even the case during drought conditions. Trying to play a shot that lands on the fringe and bounces forward to a front pin, forget about it. The ball either plugs or bounces back with mud on it.
Driver shots often land and stop dead, plugged or backwards a few inches.
And to top it all off they’re now using small turf mats on the par three tees. The mats move while you’re swinging.
One more thing; slooooooow play. So, so, so slooooow.
It’s worth repeating, the greens are the worst!
ONn of the best... in the area
Great layout and conditions, moderate challenging but very pleasant course.
Course Could Be Better
Tee to green was good. Disappointed in having to use mats on par 3's. Bunkers were very inconsistent
and greens were slow with weird roll even thought the grass is going dormant.
Not a hidden gem for the price. OK public course but doesn't live up to the hype.
Every chance I get using hot deal I play this course
Posted several reviews. Only negative thing about this course is difficulty of #9. If I could afford the initiation fee I'd bid all other courses farewell and play this course exclusively. It is that nice! Thanks Clemson for the only thing I like about the word Clemson. GO GAMECOCKS!
Not all that it is cracked up to be
Pace of play was slow. Had to wait on groups of seniors ahead of us. Fairways were extremely wet given lack of rain .
Never think Diamond Zoysia is a good putting surface. Inconsistent speeds and roll.
Course is over rated.
Great Course! Good Price
Love the Course. The Hot deals are the only time I play cause it is pretty expensive. It was super windy which made it fun but also more challenging that it normally is. Pace of play was great. Only negative is the staff at times is not very friendly. We showed up about 40 min before out tee time. Was not greeted very well and was immediately told we could not Tee off till our tee time. I didn't even ask to go off early. The course was empty so I'm not sure what they were concerned about but the interaction was not very friendly. This has been my experience most times that I have played there. Still worth it though.
Beautiful course but very noisy
Beautiful setting and great course but lots of distractions. For instance, hole 18 is a problematic tee shot which has a pavilion just up the hill with some kind of awards ceremony going on. Very loud and very distracting, but other than that it was good.
Very good all round facity
Course was in excellent condition and very fair for average golfer except for a couple of holes, Great facilties, excellent putting and chipping area as well as driving range. Looking forward to playing there again.
A must play
As always Walker didn't disappoint. This is easily the best public course in the area. Lush fairways and fast, receptive greens. Bunkers are always great too. Practice facilities are top notch. Zero complaints here.
Greens are unreceptive. Putting is inconsistent speed and breaks.
Always wet. Poor drainage.
Way over crowded. Slow play. Slow play. Slow play.
#1 college course for a reason!
You won't be disappointed!! It seems to always be in good shape. Challenging and forgiving course.
I don’t know what course you played but Walker course has unreceptive greens that are slow and break inconsistently.
Always wet. Poor drainage.
Way too crowded slow play everyday.
This course is over rated.
Greens are terrible. Drainage is nonexistent. Slow play due to overcrowding.
Great experience
Was first time and enjoyed myself. Course is beautiful and well maintained. Variety of holes of abilities. Was frustrated with group ahead playing slow and showed no respect in pace of play. Staff and course were wonderful.
Your review, why?
Greens are unreceptive, slow and inconsistent.
Wet, always wet even in a drought. Poor drainage.
Way too crowded. Slow play everyday of the week
Greens are unreceptive and speeds are inconsistent.
Always wet. Poorest drainage possible for a golf course.
Way too crowded. Slow play.
