Great value.
Greens are excellent and challenging. Fairways are well kept however, they are narrow. Bunkers are terrible. Overall on course, even if there is a wonky layout. Targeted golf with risks and rewards
Terrible Pace
The terrible pace of play - most of the people seem walking here which causes big slowness, Also the way it is designed, you can easily go for 5.5 +.
After 3.5 hours yesterday, we had barely finished 12 holes and waiting and that's when we decided to quit mid-round. There is no marshal to enforce any timings.
Worst Course of All Time
So there was a 5-some in front of us, that somehow became a 6-some. Then there was an 8-some two spots ahead of them. So any semblance of normal pace of play was out of the question. And nobody ever came to help that nightmare. There’s no cart girl, and the bar area is up a hill away from the course so basically you can’t get any drinks or snacks unless you leave. I mean, I honestly don’t know how this place is in business. It’s like they found out what every golfer enjoys and tried their hardest to remove it from the sport. I booked it and everybody was legit mad at me. Never again. Please save your money. Oh and its terribly short. We had to play from the blacks to make it where we normally play from the whites, everywhere else. But…there was a “bonus hole”, never ever seen that before. Very odd place. Better off never going. Spend the day with the family this time, or spend the money to go elsewhere. Trust me. Or go..and you can come back and copy and paste my review.
Barnyard pool experience
We arrived and had to ask people in the parking lot where to go to check in. When we checked in she asked for more money as we didn’t pay enough despite paying directly with Golfnow. We saw the carts, but no one to start us. Signage was poor for first time players. We skipped one hole as there was a mower in the fairway and someone fixing the green on a par 3. Lots of bare areas and lots of muddy areas. Not sure we’d return or recommend
Fun and worth it
They are doing great over the and i appreciate the effort the staff outs forwed. Very friendly and accommodating :)
Do Not Golf Here!
As you read through the other reviews, note when they are dated. This is not the same course that existed in 2016. It *was* a nice course. Today - quite possibly the worst experience I've ever had on a golf course.
Every year, some buddies and I from Seattle go down to San Diego to get some vitamin D and lose some golf balls. This course was on the way to the airport, so we gave it a shot. Four hours of my life that I'll never get back--and we didn't make the 12th hole. We quit after waiting ten minutes to tee off On. Every. Hole. The pace would have us finish in 7 hours, long after we'd miss our flight home. They must space tee times every five minutes; there was a four-group backup ON THE FIRST TEE BOX. That’s not on the players, it’s on the [lack of] management.
The architecture of the course looks good – it must have been great when it was built in 1965 or so? Unfortunately, whoever owns the course today is using it to milk money without making *any* investment in the course itself. The current conditions looked like the Gaza Strip after the IDF got done with it. I have never, ever seen a course in this poor shape, anywhere! I mean *really* bad—entire fairways qualify as ground under repair. The driving range in Tin Cup was in better condition.
The one and only saving grace was poor Madison who was manning the bar/pro shop/restaurant/pretty much everything. At least the beer was cold.
I would rather drink ground glass in my margarita before I'd play this course again. Please - save your money, go *anywhere* else.
Interesting layout
The course is not a country club, but all the playing areas (fairways and greens) were in good condition. The layout was interesting with a lot of variety between holes, and it featured a bonus par 3 hole making it a 19 hole course.
My Round at Boulder Oaks
Whenever I come to California, which is one to two times a year, I will play this as my first course to warm up after being off due to the cold. The course design is very good, however the conditions are lacking, especially on the first few holes. It is an enjoyable course because of the design and the vistas are remarkable.
Getting Better
3rd time playing the course. The superintendent is doing a great job. I noticed a lot of new grass on the course, the fairways are nice , greens are in good shape, tee boxes could use a little help, but overall the course is very playable. I will be back, fun course, price is right. My friend made a comment on how peaceful and quiet it was to play this course.
Good bang for your buck !
Fun little gem , beautiful views & challenging layout ! Signage , cart paths and yardages to get around are all screwed up but make it more like a treasure hunt lol great little clubhouse and bar area , good food , drink selection , and and friendly staff ! Needs a little TLC $$$ and could be great , greens are in great condition !
You get what you pay for
Good value for the money but don’t expect a high quality course.
