Nice course if you have 6 hours to play 18 Holes

The course itself is lovely. Challenging holes and longer than I am used to from the ladies' tees. The starter was very friendly. We are locals and we like to support golf clubs other than our own, by playing different courses on the weekends. There were 11 in our group on this day. We all had rain checks from a previous visit when, after 3 hours and we had only arrived at the 9th tee box, we ended our play. On that previous visit, we assumed the slow play was due to the group in front of us using "caddy girls" which dramatically slows down the pace of play. However, we have realized that maybe the caddy girls weren't the only problem. On yesterday's visit, the group in front of our first foursome was as slow as could be. They would hit multiple balls each off the tee, if they weren't happy with their first shot. Also in the fairway, if they weren't happy with a shot, they would pull another ball out of their pocket and keep hitting until they liked the result. On one tee our ladies inadvertently hit into them...surprised that the tee shot went as far as it did. It trickled close to where they were standing, and they actually drove their carts BACK to our group and told them to go back to THE home! When the ranger finally came by to check, I don't think they did anything to move the group in front of us since it never got any faster. At one point all three of our groups were waiting to tee off, with the twosome behind us joining us just as our first group finally got to hit. Our round took over 5 1/2 hours, and the course was not very crowded. After we finished, one of our group went in to the pro shop to express our displeasure. They did not seem too concerned over the pace of play except to offer us another rain check. Maybe instead of being so generous in passing out rain checks to us for slow play, they might try to figure out how to speed up the play! Our group of 12 locals will likely support other courses in the area. Too bad, since it is a pretty and interesting course. You can tell I am upset, but there really isn't any excuse for such slow pace of play. I feel the rangers primary job is to make sure the pace of play is met, by moving the slower players along. Maybe for this course, this is not a priority.

Humming Bird , 9 pins stuck in the ground. WORST piece of real-estate I have ever golfed on. I cannot say golf course because it isn't one. You cannot tell where the fairways and the rough meet. It is just a huge weed patch and the bunkers are hard and full of weeds. My back yard weed free is smoother than what they call greens. It is the worst PATCH you will ever put a tee into if you can get it in the ground, bring a hammer. This 9 was a replay after playing the Wild Wing course which was awesome. We complained to the guy in the Pro shop and he couldn't have cared less. I gave it 5 stars on pace of play because the only people out there was us. The people who live in the homes that back into the PATCH looked shocked when they saw us, no big surprise. Last but not least the cart paths, you really should have a 4x4 they are DANGEROUS.

Nice little course

This course doesn't get a lot of play so it stays in nice shape. A few challenging holes with lots of water.

Wild Wing Hummingbird - Great 9 hole course

Play here many times when I want a quick 9 holes. Course is in very good shape. A few bad spots (Winter Kill) on a few greens, but nothing to make it a negative. Very challenging where you need to plan your shots. Well placed hazards. The fairways and tees are in great shape. Don't pass up playing the course. For $18 with cart, not a bad price.

Reround rate, was sold a bill of goods, don't play it!

Played Avocet early in the day and asked about reround rates and was told by a starter how nice the 9 hole Hummingbird course was, what a great track, blah blah blah. So we bit and payed the $18 to reround on Hummingbird. Bad idea...EVERY green was garbage, many holes had mounds and hills that were completely scalped by mowers, mud pits everywhere, essentially the course is a goat ranch. They should rename it to be Goat Ranch at Wild Wing. DON'T PLAY IT!

this has been one of my favorites in the area for 20 years

The Wild Wing complex is one of my favorite places to play whenever I am in Myrtle Beach. With the Legends complex also on Hwy 501, you don't even have to leave that area and have 5 great courses to play. The layout at The Hummingbird is one of the best in the area with water and well placed bunkers to make it a true test of golf. The staff is great and will help with everything, even directions to anyplace you're heading in the area.
