Too Slow
Played 3 holes in an hour and twenty minutes then just quit. Pace of play was ridiculous.
Awful
Not sure how this golf course is still operating. Pro Shop didn’t open till 5 min before our tee time (7am) - the employee looked like he just woke up. The conditions were atrocious, there are no fairways, it’s more like a long rough. The tee box had undulating domes with no flat surface to tee off of and sand/greens were literally “ground under repair.” They had cart paths closed and had detours all over the course - cutting thru tee boxes and fairways. Didn’t see any maintenance crew managing the field.
If they managed the course better, this course would be worth $85/pp and not have to use misleading photos and advertisements.
We apologize for the negative experience you had at our golf course. We appreciate your feedback and will take your concerns into consideration in order to improve our operations and course conditions. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Brutal pace
Generally liked this course but the pace of play was terrible. Marshall needs to do a better job keeping things going. People totally clueless taking multiple shots with two foursomes waiting to tee off
Thank you for providing your feedback about our course. We apologize for the slow pace of play and any inconvenience it may have caused. We will work to address this issue and improve the overall experience for our customers. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Poor conditions
This course just doesn’t make any sense. Beautiful location, layout is decent, but grass quality and sand pits are the worst in the county. End up in a “sand trap”, more like a gravel pit, and have fun scratching your clubs on the concrete and rocks. Avila might be the sandiest beach in CA, but the golf course opted for gravel they shoveled off the side of the road for their pits. Fairways feel like they put crab grass on top of a roadway. Seems like the owners just don’t care at all about golf and keeping the course in good condition, they only seem to care about using the place as a venue for concerts and weddings. With new grass, sand, and diligent upkeep, this could be a premier course, but that seems highly unlikely.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize for any negative experiences you may have had and appreciate your feedback about the grass quality and sand pits. We strive to improve our golf course and will take your concerns into consideration moving forward.
In Need of Attention
This is an interesting course that needs attention. The tee boxes were rough, the course signage was lacking (distance markers are needed to give an idea of how far shots need to clear water), the cart paths in need of repair, and an on-course marshal absent (there were teens playing the course who rode carts right up to greens and even onto tee boxes!). Recently the course experienced damaged due to rains. I hope there is a quick response to those areas on the front nine to return the routing to the original design.
Fun course but too expensive
This is a fun and unique course, but it was a bit expensive at $70. The course wasn’t in great condition so that was too expensive.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the condition of the course and will take steps to improve it. We appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again soon.
Great experience!
The course was ravaged by the rains but has come back with a roar! I’m happy that both sides are now open for play. I hadn’t played here before this season, so shied away based on the reviews. I’m really glad I played the course though bc I really like it alot. The fairways and greens are in good shape. The rough isn’t in great shape so my advice would be to hit it in the fairway…haha duh. The staff were all friendly and the food is really good. I’m going back for sure.
Don't waste your money
The course has fallen into dis-repair over the last several years. The owner apparently has more interest financially investing in outdoor concerts and special events. The course is in awful shape as are the range balls. There are several courses within reasonable distance that invest in their courses, including fair ways, bunkers and especially greens.
Horrible Golf Outing
Please don’t waste your money at this course. Only the back 9 is opened and the course is in horrible condition. Fairways are bare without much grass, greens are bumpy, cart paths need to be repaired. Please don’t waste your money at this course.
April golf
Front nine was closed due to bridge repair. Fairways were pretty dry and very bumpy. The cart path is in need of repair. Great views, a great relaxing spot to sit after the round, have a beverage, and food, and stare at the ocean. Very windy the day we played, but beautiful weather.
Not the best
I have never played such a poorly maintained golf course. This course won’t make it just on the location alone. The range was overgrown. The tee boxes were chewed up. We were not aware half the course was closed prior to playing. The staff was very friendly though.
Front 9 closed
Golf now does not mention that the front nine is closed due to storm damage
We apologize for the negative experience you had with the pace of play at our golf course. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we will take your feedback into consideration to make improvements.
