Too much dirt
Love the layout and location, but the fairways are full of dead spots and much of the “rough” is dirt.
The starter gave us a hard time about pace after a bad tee shot on 1, and was quite rude, but we proceeded to wait on the tee before every subsequent hole. To improve pace, they need to go out on the course and identify slow players instead of hassling mediocre golfers who go straight to their ball.
Worst greens I’ve ever seen
It’s a joke you have to spend $40+ at this course. Easily the worst kept golf course I’ve experienced. It’s essentially just dirt with some patches of grass. Would really wish they invested in better maintenance
Chula
Course in extremely poor condition. Fairways looked horrible. Needs grass
Bad management
Bad management all around. Greens are bad, fairways are worse! It was 7:10 am, they over booked when they have two tourneys going on. Cart lady was nice
Overbooked and rock hard fairways
My tee time was at 2:50 PM. I showed up at 2:35 and there was 7 people waiting in line inside the pro shop and another 8 people waiting at the first tee box. I think, “oh maybe they will have me start with the back 9 to keep pace reasonable.” No, they did not. Instead everyone just teed off with whoever else had the same tee time… for me, there were 7 of us with a 2:50 tee time and about 10 gentleman behind us with a 3:00 tee time. It took us 2.5 hours to play 5 holes because the group in front of us played so slow. I left at this point. Not to mention, hitting the fair way is like hitting the cart path. Have golfed here once before and was a very similar situation. Will not be back. Spend the extra money and play somewhere nice like Carlton oaks or singing hills. Trust me.
Pace of play was very slow
But had a great time for how cheap it was. The inconsistent rough grass/dirt, green speeds, and quality of sand pits threw me off but didn’t bother me for the price. Still able to get out there with buddies and have a good time
Good
Overall the course is good, the greens are great… fairways were just not great in many places, bad lies, but really enjoyed this overall and staff great
Crappy Fairways
The fairways were in crappy condition. Mostly dirt and weeds
Awful condition but cheap
90% of the course is dirt. But it was only $20 to walk 18 so they know it’s in terrible shape
Surprisingly nice!!!!
Vast improvement since i was last here. Kinda on the rustic side at times. Greens were nice, sank a few one putts. Got a little clogged around 8 and 9, but opened up on the back. Hope they can keep it going good from here. The 9th could use a haircut....just a little off the top so you can see the green from the tee. Hope to be back down the road!!!
Awesome course that will challenge you!
Really good golf course for the $$$
Much respect to all of the management and Greenskeepers keeping this I don’t know Southern California gym going!
Yes, the fairways are rough in some areas, but you need to work on your game anyway! This course will challenge you and force you to map out your approach. Some spots are unexpected in your ball will bounce in different directions. You may have to pick out your ball from a dirty lie in the middle of the fairway, or a patch of crabgrass. Can you handle the challenge?
The greens are nice, the hazards are well kept too.
If you’re a good golfer you’ll appreciate this low priced option for a FULL game with long par 4’s and tight 3’s too. The par 5’s are a great opportunity to get close and SMASH!!!
There are many places where you can lose balls in the water or trees, so hit ‘em straight and bring a dozen to hit away.
The driving range is great. Putting and chipping areas are awesome for pregame warm-up. And everything is right there including snack bar and a pretty decent shop for last minute golf items that you will need. Food service, and card girl available. Hot dog was good and Red Bulls when you need them…
Another nice thing that I enjoyed was that the golf cart was quick. And I was able to maneuver around the course freely without any annoying, speed, limiter’s or beeping. There’s no GPS system on the carts, so bring your own hook up on your phone, watch etc if you want Maps or hole information. Or you could go off grid and just use the card they give you at the shop.
Back 9, near the end of play it backed up a little on the last three holes, but it wasn’t bad. If you’re playing after 1 PM, you get a nice sundown as the last four holes move west.
The one thing I did notice about this course is that there are not a lot of uphill and downhill holes. Meaning it’s almost all flat so if you’re walking the course you’ll be fine. And the layout is not bad so you will get a good exercise without excessive walking from greens to tee box.
I like this course and it’s nice to get down to Chula Vista and play here once in a while.
For the money this is one of my favorite full courses in San Diego. If I lived down south, this would be my spot for sure.
Please support your local Muni and take care of our sport!
Pace of play
A lot of golfer of this golf course have little idea of the golf rule. Pace of play is terrible.
CV Golf Course has shown nice improvements to the greens and fairways.
Thanks for your efforts in trying to improve course conditions.
