Nice. Hard.

I had read some of the previous comments before playing to get a feel for the course, and I would agree with what I saw. This is a nice track with some good design features, and the conditioning is very good, excellent even, on the fairways and greens. The rough is dormant and easy to hit out of when you spray it, as long as you don’t end up in the ball eating stuff we were warned about by the starter. It’s a bit scruffy out there, but for a low to mid-priced round, you should not expect better. Lots of houses on the early and middle holes, but there are only a few places where they will encroach on most hitters.

Sounds good, right? Sure. However, this one is pretty tough. There is water on many holes and getting in position for a decent approach shot means taking it on more than most players would like. More importantly, the greens are well-protected, often elevated, and very hard and fast. The starter said they were running at ten. We think more like 11.5. This meant keeping the ball below the hole wasn’t possible, and two putting was very hard. Our 5 hcp lady broke 80 but the rest of us didn’t scare it.

I’m back on Monday to give it another try, hopefully minus the shanks, so we will see if there is an answer.

Great course. Great conditions. Challenging enough but not too tough for the average player.

From the time we checked in to when we finished our round we felt everyone that we interfaced with,
with a special note to Bob the starter, what a fantastic person he is, was warm and welcoming to us. Great place to spend time.

Good challenging layout, great scenery...demanding holes

All positive.……..though it was cart path only, due to previous evening rain. HOWEVER.....carts should have been restricted only on a couple of holes......NOT ALL 18

Everything bad about Pete dye designs

The course layout is a travesty. The greens are tiny and rockhard with enormous undulations. I’m a scratch golfer and I had no fun at all. The 2 20 handicaps that I was paired with thought that the setting was pretty up against the La Quinta mountains but the golf course itself was unplayable for them. They probably lost a dozen balls each. If you miss the greens, unless you’re Phil Mickelson you probably aren’t getting up and down. I hit the ball nearly flawlessly and shot 10 over. Golf is supposed to be more fun than that .

Maybe you played from the wrong tee box.

Nice views, frustrating round

Had read other reviews that talked about this course being unforgiving and not fun, I concur. The course was in good condition, friendly staff, etc. But besides the normal Dye elevated greens with run off collection areas, the greens themselves made for a frustrating round. They were rock hard and wouldn’t hold approach shots. An example was a 187 yard par 3. My towering 5 iron hit 15 yards short of the middle pin, took a high bounce and ran through the green, off the back and into a collection area about 30 yards past the pin. No one in our group could keep their shot on the green. You couldn’t “run it up” because the green is elevated. Found a number of holes were like that. Are these new greens that will soften up in a year? If not, I’ll pass next time.

Dunes course

Played with foursome. Fairways were not what I expected for the price. You play in culverts between homes. Link courses are not played like this. BEWARE: don't waste your money on this course. Go to Eagle Falls in Indio and play a real course.

Tough course

Typical Pete Dye with elevated greens. Links style but narrower fairways than typical. Didn’t really enjoy the experience. Just too tough for a mid handicap golfer. Good shots are easily penalized rather than rewarded in some cases. Roughs are REALLY rough, hard pan off the fairways. Greens are good and true. For the money and the overall experience I might go back to some other favorite spots.
