tough but fun course
The only reason for not giving all 5 stars was because they are getting ready for over-seeding it was very brown and dry. Very common this time of year. Greens and sand traps were in great condition. Fairly tough layout, but fair.
Playing off dead grass
Once again, the course should warn that they have let the course die off for overseeding. Arrived at the course for a 12:30 tee time. Pro shop was closed, and a single cart guy was working, collected money and sent me out.
Greens were in good shape, but not a single blade of green grass anywhere else.
I normally like the course and will probably play again once overseeding is complete, but I feel like I was hoodwinked into playing a course that should have been closed down.
Good challenge, very dry
This was our first time playing Desert Falls and as it is the end of the summer it was very dry. They are obviously getting ready for overseeding which made it an extra challenge but also made it inexpensive. It was also empty, so millionaires golf! The course is challenging with lots of undulation and large greens. We look forward to playing it again when it is green!
Excellent Value Good Shape for Summer
Bear in mind it's summer golf
Really enjoyed the course
Generous Fairways, puttable greens, consistent bunkers, peppered with hazards
Recommend for Beginners through to Mid Handicap golfers
Not a track for Low Handicappers
Had several birdie putts
My marketing slogan would be "Play the right tees and have fun!"
Very friendly staff and active maintenance team
Can feel the pride, that's nice
Fun Course at a good price
We had a late morning tee time and arrived more than an hour early. They still allowed us to tee off right away. We like to play fast and were able to play through 3 groups and finished in about 2 hours and 45 minutes. The course was in good shape but we found the greens quite slow and bumpy on this occasion. Overall it was a good experience and we would play the course again. The staff was very friendly.
Nice course — Great value
Great deal on a very nice course. Excellent condition for late summer. Very playable course however be aware of the pins are in very tough positions. I recommend this course.
Desert Falls C C is considered to be a mid range private country club in the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs, CA area.) The staff was nice, Overall the course was in good shape (especially for LATE SUMMER...) The tee boxes were allowed to grow extremely "spongy" and were not level in a lot of areas. No cart based GPS...? Fairways were generally good, BUT DON'T MISS by more than a few inches! First cut was very "spongy" and ball would drop to the bottom easily! Second cut (3 feet or so off the fairways) was pretty penalizing (lost one ball 15 feet of the fairway) Greens were typical SUMMER GREENS... Slow, Bumpy, Inconsistent and some were damaged enough I had to take several drops to playable surface areas!
Played this course again from last summer. This course is not in great shape in the summer. It is poorly maintained in the summer months. I will never play Desert Falls in the summer again. It is not worth $24.00 on Golfnow. It should be reduced to $12.00 to attract any traffic. The only positive note was the cart staff. Very friendly and helpful.
upon arrival to the course the desk advised that the front was punched and sanded on mon. and that the back was being done as we spoke. i was was told that i would have to play the front twice. i was told that golf now was notified. i have experienced this before where the course says they notified golf now of an alert and when i contacted golf now they said that they were not notified. As far as I'm concerned its the courses responsibility to go online with golf now and confirm the course alert. Some will say that i should call the course prior. Yes, i have done and been told that the course was i good shape but upon arriving the course was a disaster. i will not be playing this course again and will not recommend this to my other golfing friends
Tough with many challenges
Played the Blue tees. If you can place your ball where you want it there are no issues. It's when you stray from the fairway that things get difficult, not unbearable, but challenging. To me the course rewards accuracy over length. The greens were running about nine, according to the staff. Not too fast, but downhill putts could get away from you. Lots of water to factor into your brain. Bunkers were a little firm for my tastes, but playable.
Love Desert Falls
Great course, great pace, very good condition, challenging but fair!
I arrived a early to hit the range before my round. I played as a single. The Pro shop said I could head right out if I wanted to. I asked how far out was the group in front of me. The guy said they were way ahead of me. I decided to skip the range and head to number one tee. When I headed down the fairway on number one hole I could see a foursome teeing off on hole number two. So much for way ahead of me. I made it work out. I paced myself to not push the group in front. They let me play through on number 10. I appreciated that. It was 107 temp in the desert. Finished in good time and pace. Went home and jumped in the pool . It was a Good Day !
This course is in bad condition
This golf course is in bad shape. Fairways are dried out and brown. It is difficult to figure out where the fairways are. I would definitely not come back to this course. Layout is also not user friendly.
Play front nine twice
We didn’t know we have to play front nine twice
GolfNow should tell us when we make reservation
They didn’t mention about it
Rode the Blues (6687/72.2/127) with Kevin in 3H 20M mid morning. The weather was sunny, breezy and in the mid 90's.
It's unusual in the Palm Springs area to play a links layout set among rolling hills. DF is not a tight course even with a decent amount of water, high native grass and OB to keep you focused. One of my favorite layouts to play in the Palm Springs area. However, the playing conditions are much more scruffy than other Palm Springs area courses for this time of year. For playing conditions, DF is a step down from any of the other roughly 3 dozen local courses I have played in the past 6 months.
The tees were mediocre. A few were lush, but most were thin and crusty where they obviously have not been getting an adequate amount of water.
The fairways were decent. Not lush, but still good to play from.
The primary rough is in transition with the Bermuda not totally taking over yet. Could be semi lush to almost hardpan. The native rough is calf deep and almost a sure lost ball.
The green side traps were nicely maintained with soft, good quality sand. The fairway traps are much rougher around the edges.
The greens putted medium speed and were firm. Hardly any ball marks because of the firmness. Several had brown patches where they needed more water.
No GPS on the carts and the course is not well marked for yardage. There are 150 yard palm markers and many holes have old marks on the cart paths, Makes it challenging to calculate distances unless you come equipped with a range finder/GPS.
The customer service was excellent from all encountered. Grass range included in your fee with chipping area. Recommended only if you can get a deal because of the so-so playing conditions.
Great day of Golf
Was very pleased with the course conditions. Finished in just over three hours. Would recommend to all my friends.
Greens average at best
I Played Desert Falls at a great GolfNow rate on a very windy day in the Valley. The course is generally average with its layout with some water features, but nothing memorable. Fairways and rough were average for courses here, but the greens were not so good. Possibly transitioning into summer, they were brown in many areas and were actually fairly slow (9.5) despite cut short. I got a good value from GolfNow or I would not recommend it to others. It's certainly not worth the normal $70 - $100 it was asking in April. There are other courses in the Valley that are in much better shape.
