I set up a 6:32am tee time on my JP Golf membership and checked in at the pro shop around 6:00am. Told the pro at the desk I did not need a cart and was walking. He said I could go out when I was ready and I tee'd off at about 6:25. I walked the course and had played the front nine in 1 hour flat. On the back nine I let a single golfer in a cart go by me on the 11th hole and when I arrived at the 15th hole there was a foursome that just tee'd off in front of me. I looked around and they had started a scramble at 8:00am!! I had wished the pro would have told me when I checked in or that something would have been said when scheduling. I played 15 and it took almost 25 minutes and ended up walking off the course and leaving. I was not racing to get done but could have played all 18 in 2 hours had the tournament not started.
As for the course, the fairways were in pretty good shape for this time of year but some of the greens were punched and not quite ready for play. I am sure the greens will be in nice shape in another couple weeks.
Very enjoyable
Punched half the green a couple weeks ago will be great in another week or so by mid Feb 2018. Wonderful staff.
Better day
Fairways and greens just great for Winter! No waiting and it was a Saturday.
Twin Oaks is like an old friend
Just love this track. So many rounds at this course in days and years gone by. Costs have gone way up, but thanks to Golf Now hot deals, made it possible to play. Kelly in the pro shop was kind enough to call and offer an earlier tee time due to play on Christmas Day. Did notice the pin positions on the cart gps did not coincide with actual placement.
Excellent Course
Twin Oaks is an excellent course. Friendly. I booked with golf now under hot deals and found that booking with the course instead would of been cheaper by $14 for the same time. Other than that it was a great day and course to golf.
Soggy course, slow play
The course has an interesting and diverse layout, on the day we played the fairways varied from soggy and wet to bone dry this made for an interesting experience. Also having maintenance workers watering the greens while your putting was not ideal. The group ahead of us had two players in carts and two walkers which made for a very slow pace of play, it was a busy day to begin with but this just compounded the slow pace. Overall a nice course but not one I will return to if this is the typical experience.
Course if over watered
I have played here a few times, but for some reason despite no rain in a very long time, the course was soaked and unplayable in some places. I feel the place is overpriced for the condition they are keeping it in.
Not worth it
Well first I CALLED THE COURSE to ask if they had punched their greens. He told me no it's in great shape.. Unfortunately for me the greens were half punched. Im not sure on the rules but seems like they should disclose that especially when I CALL TO ASK EXACTLY THAT. Second I'm not exaggerating when I say every single tee box was SOAKED to the point where it makes a gushy sound when u walk on it, shoots mud up at u if u take a divot and obviously effects ur swing.. Plus the water wasn't held just to the tee boxes. There were multiple ripped up areas near the green where mowers had sunk in. AND there were PATCHES WITHOUT GRASS IN THE FAIRWAY. Greens keepers keep flooding the same areas while others are left so dry it's a dirt patch. I'm not a course snob and I've never written a bad review, but this was my exception. Pretty slow pace of play but I don't blame a course for that. I LEFT EARLY and I won't be back
Very enjoyable round. I couldn't have asked for a better day, or to have been paired with better people. There were a couple tee's that had been over watered and muddy, and all the greens were partially aerated. That being said, it had minimal impact on the round. I wish I was staying around longer so I could play again.
Good course and fun layout.
Good layout and conditions are good with the exception of a couple greens. They are probably a lost cause and need to be replaced. Not very long but still fun to play. Tight in spots to keep you honest.
Poor Greens
I've never played Twin Oaks because the prices are usually too high, but I saw they were reduced on Labor Day, so thought it was a good day to try. The course was crowded, but our foursome got out on time behind a twosome. When we got to the second hole, the twosome and the foursome in front of them were waiting on the tee. Needless to say, the front nine was very slow, but it speeded up a little on the back. The thing we were really disappointed with was the greens. They were all very bumpy and extremely slow. Some also had bare spots and damage from some sort of vehicle. The layout was OK, and the fairways weren't in bad shape, but I saw nothing that would draw me back, especially at their usual prices.
Fun Course
Twin Oaks is a great layout and fun to play. #16 and #18 are two of the best golf holes in San Diego.
This day, the greens were slow and bumpy and #16 is in need of repair.
This is one of my favorite courses.
Extremely Slow
I called the club house and was told the course is wide open. We were a two some. Lucky to play three holes with no hold up on the fourth hole two groups were waiting at the tee box and continued that way, by the time we reached hole 9 there four groups were waiting at the tee box. No marshall. Green #16 has patches all over the green and they tried to cover by spraying it green to make it look like grass. The fairways were mowed and you can see dry cut grass lines all over.
Great value
Played second off and our twosome played in 2hrs 30 min head pro was very helpful and friendly
Enjoyable!
Really like the course, good condition, variety of holes.
You must not play many places if you think 16 and 18 are some of the best in San Diego!!!
