Surprise! greens just punched
This is one of my favorite courses, but...greens just punched and they don't tell you ahead of time. (had I known if would not have played there. They certainly didn't reduce the green fee ($79) because of the greens. Don't understand punching half of the green this week and the other half next week. Do it all at once and post when greens are punched.
Twin Oaks
Course has well defined and maintained fairways Some elevation changes with numerous slid-hill lies. Numerous pot bunkers. Green were slippery fast with subtle breaks.
Great course for location... Water is still the Cali issue!
Great when it's wet, mid summer it dries out and like any course in so cal it Suffers from the drought. All in all a very solid course and decent complexity. Play it from the tips for the yardage. It gets narrow at points to force position golf and nice long rip and grip par 5's. Get a golf now deal and keep it to 60 or cheaper all spring and summer
Jam as many golfers as you can on a course.
I Play all the JC course but this is by far the worst one. 3.5 hours for nine holes. I don't have 7 hours to play golf. Then I go in and complain at the turn which I wasn't the only group to do so. They offer me $20.00. The JC members got another round of golf. So I payed $55.00 to play 9 holes. I will never play there again.
Great Condition and Value
Another favourite for my wife and I and playable for both of us (my hdcp. 2, her's 36).
The greens here are some of the best we play in SD County and were aerated in early March so they are back to full speed and smoothness. On this day they were running a 10 Stimp, but we played on March 30 and they were 11.5.
Lots of elevation change so a cart is preferred.
Only a snack bar so plan dinner elsewhere.
Another Great day
Played here on 3/29/2016 and as usual the course was in good condition. Pro shop is always friendly, and accommodating. Used the Underpar deal and, when we finished the first round the lady behind the counter was great and trying to get us right back out ASAP. Unfortunately the first tee was backed up three tee times by then, and we decided not to play. No fault of the course, just slower players than us. We finished the first round in less than 3 hours with a foursome. Greens are still recovering from being punched, and were a little sandy; but nothing to complain about because they still rolled pretty true.
I will say the reason for the 4 stars versus 5 is because holes 11-14 were either being fixed or there was a maintenance guy on a tractor digging up the entire fairway. Twin Oaks is one of my favorite places to play, and should at least be played once by everyone. Look for underpar deals, totally worth the two for 75 they charge.
Twin Oaks 1st time playing
The course is in good condition. Greens are tricky, but fair. Pace of play is horrible. After the first tee, we had to wait for the group ahead to tee off on every hole. On a weekday, it still took us nearly 6 hours to complete the round. I don't think I'll return to this course.
Closest to home course
Played Twin Oaks many times: never boring, always in very good condition and fair but tough. This time, just wanted to play a twilight nine and the course did not disappoint.
Would have been nice to know the greens were semi-punched
Great layout. Fun little track. Starts off tight, asks you to hit it straight, if you leak even a little you're in trouble, especially #2 & 3.... Then it opens up and the up and down and humps and bumps take you to the end. Tricky little course, lots of curves and mounds and humps all over. Very fun place to play, makes you play every club in the bag (if you choose to not hit driver off every tee and play strategically). Shame that the ProShop didn't let us know that greens were half-punched, that is, 16 greens were punched on one half side, and the other 2 were totally punched. Could have let me know that on the phone when I called to book the time. I understand that courses need money, but that's just bad service. But that's about the only negative to the place. Got to hit off grass at the range, and like I said, the course is very fun to play. The rains have obviously helped the place, as there was good coverage all over. But now we're seeing the hot weather come back already, I'm sure the place will struggle. What El Niño? Not enough rains. I'd have to keep tabs on the place to see if I would want to go back to play it, it all depends on the conditions, since this place is a bit more inland and gets scorched.
Cow Pasture
For the rate they are charging, this is way below average course at best., There are courses in San Diego that is way bettewr than this pasture, will not play here nor recommend it to anyone. This course is not Torrey Pines by a long shot.
Terribly slow
5 1/2 hour round greens were terribly slow and bumpy
Twin Oaks Round
Our Tee Time was supposed to be at 9:28am but we ended up not getting off until around 9:50ish. As we were playing, the pace on the front 9 was pretty slow and we were constantly waiting to hit our next shot. However, there were two really pleasant marshal's out on the course that made it a little better. While we were playing we constantly had a group driving and hitting the ball up on us almost hitting me and my friend a few times. With the pace being so slow there was no way for us to play any faster as there were a few groups in front of us. It was not a very fun front 9 to say the least. The back 9 was better than the front without a doubt but still the entire round was mediocre at best in terms of enjoyment.
To top it all off when I bought a power bar and a bottle of water in the morning before we started the round the course charged me $11.50. On the turn we stopped in the club house to get food. I ordered a BLT sandwich before we headed back out to play the back 9. The bartender had assured me that they would be able to bring my sandwich to me out on the course while I was playing. I ended up playing the whole back 9 which took us 2 hours and never received my sandwich. After we completed the round I went back in to see what had happened and a different bartender had told me that she did not know what had happened. $9 for a cold BLT that was sitting there for 2 hours and they did not offer to refund, make me a new one or nothing.
To say the least it was a very disappointing trip to Twin Oaks and I probably will not be back again.
Half Greens Punched, Some a little beat up
I have played Twin Oaks many times. Love the challenge of the tight par 5's mixed with some open holes to allow for mistakes. Half the greens were punched but I was not notified by GolfNow of that condition. Other than that, a few greens has some mold/growing problems but other than that, course was good. A few wet areas where water was pooling and creating some mud, looked like some minor drain issues.
Highly recommended
Great day of golf. Enjoyed the the course. Greens were ok need a little more maturity. Front nine manicured better than the back. Still a great value.
Not bad
The course conditions would have been good had the greens been in better shape. Many of the greens were divot-laden minefields that needed serious attention. It made it difficult to make any putt. The layout is good, but the greens need attention.
Price was not discounted - $58 is regular price
Nice course, pretty straightforward. The $58 quoted fee is not a discount - same price on their website.
Good value and well-maintained.
Grrens were soft and rolled true and quick. The only downside was too many pitchmarks because the greens are so soft and too many inconsiderate golfers don't repair theirs. Fairways were good, traps were a bit wet, and a couple bunkers under repair. Pkayed as a twosome on a Satursay at 8:30 and never waited once. Just over 3 :15 to play 18!
Good times
Great place to play golf, staff isn't the most friendly but you only deal with them at check in.
Excellent Golf Course for the Money
Reasonalble green fee for a premium golf course. Staff are friendly. Course is well maintained.
