Bear Creek Golf Club
About
Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

18th hole Photo submitted by Sammy369 on 02/09/2015
Wet but fun
It was cart path only but with the rain that was expected. Was fun, not too challenging but still had some difficult layouts. Employees were very friendly and helpful.
Jerks
The staff harassed us for slow pace even though we were waiting at each tee box and fairway. They chose to harass my group. Not sure if they appreciate diversity
I would play again. Great course and value
The layout is a Rees Jones. They are making some modifications, primarily grassing (sod) some and portions of a number of bunkers. I was told due to easier maintenance. Although it probably made the course easier to play, as I found a number of the sod areas, the course required a number of different shots, as well as, working the ball both left and right off the tee. It was still difficult with the reduced bunkering, and provides some run off areas around the greens which allows for different shots. I think that if they were still sand, the course could / would have been very frustrating to play, especially for never seeing it before. The greens were in great shape and rolled well. There were a couple of tee boxes that needed some TLC, but over all, was in very good shape.
There is quite a lot of wildlife. I saw quite a bit. Keep your eyes peeled for eagles, osprey, blue birds, red tail hawks, and alligators.
The staff was wonderful, from the bag drop, the head pro, and the waitstaff.
A regular booked round included new golf cart, unlimited range balls, lunch and a drink. I think that the course would be very walkable, as there were not a lot of long drives from greens to the next tee.
Lunch was very good. I had a grouper sandwich, shrimp tacos, and a chicken sandwich on different days.
With all that is included with your round, this has to be the best value on Hilton Head.
I ended up playing the course 3 times in a week, because of the test it provided, the value, and the staff.
Enjoyed The Course
Enjoyed the course overall and the greens were in very nice shape. Not overly fast but a decent, consistent pace. Fairways were well grassed and rolled well. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
At $60.00 I thought this was good value.
My one complaint about the course were the bunkers. Most didn't have rakes and most were hardpan. Although there was rain the night before we found bunker play quite frustrating as there was just no consistency. Maintenance in the traps should be a daily grounds crew task.
We'll play it again though!
Fun
Nice layout, good conditions, overall fun day. Too bad about cart path only but still a good pace.
Nice day at Bear Creek
We were able to get out about 20 minutes ahead of tee time so that was a plus. Got through one group on #4 and pace was great after that. Greens were very good and the rest of the course was more than plyable. Good conditions for this time of year. I will be back.
Bear Creek does not disappoint
Very nice layout on this course. Forgiving enough fairways but tight enough for a challenge. Greens were is good condition but a touch slow for my liking. Definitely a course worth playing.
Nice Course, continues to Improve.
The greens were again excellent. I was impressed with some extensive resodding of areas that have needed it. The people/staff are friendly and efficient. I know from many past visits that the restaurant/bar is pretty good, too. So the only real disappointment on the day was that it was closed so early. We wanted to enjoy a drink & snack with the new friends we met - and really enjoyed - when we were paired up with them. Pace of play has been too slow on some past visits, but today was fine - about 4.5 hours for the 18 holes, including a bit of a long restroom break for the ladies at the turn.
