Dobson
Course in good shape. Pace of play OK but could be enhanced if par threes were not as difficult (Always slows down at #12.} Greens very firm requiring roll up shots. Weather and company excellent.
Great condition but really difficult pin placements
The weather was cold and windy and the pin placements were extremely difficult on a course that was in excellent condition.
better than expected
Good course for the money, front desk clerk was more interested in watching king of queens. No personality at all. Didn't tell us there was a half an hour frost delay.....very unprofessional.
Excellent course!
Enjoyed a nice game with Alex and Cody, two regulars. Course is in great shape and greens were nicest so far on this trip. Got windy which increased the challenge.
Good course - worth a second look
The course - fairways and greens were in good shape. A canal ran though the course giving some interest to the holes. The round was 4.5 hours - we waited on most holes on the back nine. .It was cart path only so we walked. Course is very walkable. The course is 5592 from the forward tees. We intend to golf here again.
Great conditions
In town for the WMPO, was looking for an inexpensive round where tee times were still available.
The rough was brown and dead, but that made it easier to play out of. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all great.
I needed to rent clubs so I called to make sure they'd be available and Louie seemed incredibly annoyed that I'd even bothered because it was so obvious they would (despite there being very few tee times available on the Thursday of WMPO weekend, when there's a lot more out-of towners around). The clubs were meh (driver, wood, hybrid, 5-S, putter), driver had a dent in it but I'm no good anyways so it didn't matter. Bigger issue was that unlike most courses, there were no balls, tees, divot tool/marker etc in the bag. Had to buy all that.
I'd probably play here again with my own clubs.
Busy but fun
Headlines; Course in good shape; very busy; great staff and decent simple food.
Had a 9.49 tee and started on-time. Sadly while they call tee times there is no tee starter which results in bunching from the off - overall round was 4hrs10 which is ok but we seemed to stand over most of our shots all the way round. I suspect the course is jamming too many groups onto the tee?
Range, tees, fairways, greens and bunkers all in very good shape. Greens running at about 9, but they have big slopes and borrows, so they would be unplayable if they were set too fast. Not sure I had a single flat putt! Nice variation in hole shapes and good mix of short and long par threes.
Course is not particularly difficult, but would suit mid to higher handicappers looking to improve their game. Is set on flat ground in a housing area - so no dramatic visuals.
Pro shop and clubhouse staff really friendly and the lunch menu was good solid simple fare - I had a great Philly cheesesteak.
I'd recommend the course as a decent value budget course, just don't expect visual drama.
Recommended
Course was very busy but we moved along at a reasonable pace and finished a 2pm round before dark. Conditions were good for time of year.
ranger danger
First of all I have played this public course 100+ times and belonged to their men's club for a few years. Two of the players in our group do not play much golf and shot 105 and 115 respectively and that was not counting them all. On the first tee one of our guys shanked his tee shot and hit another. The ranger promptly informed use not to hit two tee shots on any hole as he had a tournament starting with 2 groups behind us. First we had heard that. Played the front in 2hr 10min but then on 13 were told we were holding up the tourney because we were a hole behind the 4some that had turned into a 2some at the turn and we may have to skip a hole. I told the ranger absolutely not but that took all the fun out of the day. 4hr 10 minutes from teeing off we were 1/2 way to the parking lot. In this day and age of slow play a 4 hour round is rare on a public course and we did that and still were harassed by the ranger.
Will never go back there too many better places to play in the phoenix area.
Great conditions and weather
The course was demanding and played fairly. A good pace and a very enjoyable round.
Dobson Ranch Experience
Played here 6 weeks ago prior to overseeding and again yesterday. The golf course is in good shape and it was pleasurable to play except for the slow pace of play. Ranger going around the course did little to speed up play.
Great conditions
Receptive greens, wide, lush fairways, not overly difficult.
last day before over seeding and day after rain storm very busy city course
pleasantly surprised
The course was in very good shape and the greens were beautiful. Had a great round of golf with a friend.
Nice course- a little too long but
Course in good shape
Weather was hot and sunny 108F
No ice coolers on carts and no refreshments
carts on course
Asked restaurant for styrofoam cups with ice
Charged us 50 cents per cup!!
Charged us a dollar for power cart key - was returned when key returned
I have never encountered this before
Fun day
Course was very nice and in great shape. Played long for its yardage . great grass , cant wait to play here again.
Dobson
Dobson Ranch is a great city course, especially in the off season. There are plenty of trees and hazards to keep you challenged, and white fairways for the errant shot. Don’t hook left on the ninth hole, you’ll end up in the driving range. Unfortunately the driving range uses white balls.
Still a great track
I used to play Dobson Ranch regularly in the early 2000’s but have only played once since then. The course is still a great challenge and in excellent shape. The best compliment I can give is that my playing partners that never played the course before were amazed by how it played. Sneaky tough was the consensus with the greens being in great shape and hard to score if you’re in the wrong spots. The shop staff needs a lesson in customer experience but that’s not uncommon for a muni track. We were one of the first groups off so pace of play was good.
Good old Dobson Ranch
For those of you who have played here you know how Dobson Ranch is. For those who haven’t I’m about to tell ya. Dobson Ranch is a blast when it’s not overbooked. Luckily my round today was on course for a good pace of play. The ranger made quite a few rounds around the course which is kind of annoying but he’s there for a reason. The greens were sorta fast and pin placements were devilish. The fairways were rough due to them aerating the bad spots out but was still playable. The kid behind the counter was slow. Dobson Ranch is a fun course to play don’t get me wrong. I grew up playing this course and know it like the back of my hand. I suggest at least trying it.
