Flying L Guest Ranch Golf Course
About
The majestic, rolling hills and towering oaks of the scenic Texas Hill Country serve as a backdrop to the Flying L Guest Ranch Golf Course & Resort. The course begins with a challenging front nine with numerous doglegs and uneven lies at every turn. The signature hole, the par-3 seventh, features a green that is surrounded by water on three sides and a spectacular view of the mountains. Flying L Guest Ranch Golf Course & Resort's back nine is less challenging than the front nine, but it has a few interesting surprises in store. It has a more classic and open layout than the front nine, but there are four holes with water and several strategically placed bunkers to watch out for. Flying L also features a two-tiered driving range with a chipping and putting green.

Needs some TLC during the winter
I've played this course a couple of times over the summer and was surprised on the condition of the course at that time. Unfortunately that surprise didn't carry over during winter play. The tee boxes were dark green, just as I anticipated. The fairways were mixed some dorment grass some growing but as anticipated. The greens were a absolute nightmare. I'm very surprised at the conditions and the dorment grass considering the tee boxes were in such great shape. I'll not be playing this course again in the winter.
Windy Day at the Flying L
It was very windy at the Flying L (20 mph and gusts to 25 inconsistent.) The course is starting to transition from winter to spring. Tee boxes were good and fairways and rough are softening. The greens are in sub-par shape due to the Poa Annua growing in patches Also if you get off the fairway too far it is very rocky. If you can get this deal under $25 then it is worth it. The restaurant food is very good and the staff is very friendly.
We thoroughly enjoyed our golf day at the Flying L. The course is in wonderful condition. It is a challenge to play and yet not punishing. We very much enjoyed the beautiful views and the wildlife.
Great day on a super course
This was my first time on this course. It was a great day and the course was in much better shape than I had hoped for.
The greens were in good shape and the tees were very nice. The fairway was better than most courses this time of year.
I would recommend it to anyone.
Everything you need at a great price
Even though the fairways were not Green and manicured like the pictures, how can I complain? Being from Portland, Oregon it was great to be able to play at the end of December! The course provides ample shot making challenges but there are a few completely blind shots. The greens were certainly not fast, but rolled very true. At a hot deals price, I will definitely return to play this course again before leaving the area.
Stack'em Deep and send some walkers!
Course was in decent shape. I really don't understand why have a tee time when you allow players to line the #1 tee box. We had a group of walkers, 2 threesomes and then our group. All groups went off within 5 minutes, so much for controlling pace of play. This called for a long day, when I asked if we could tee off from back 9 the pro shop said "that would be a problem", so much for that....
Greens conditions
Greens need attention. Slight overgrowth and bumpy. Poor quality compared to past typical conditions.
I like it
Very good course and the food it is great
Great value for the money
Played this course 3 or 4 times in the last 6 weeks. The course is in excellent condition despite little rain and 100 degree temperatures . Staff is friendly and from the blue tees it is plenty long.
Felt Unwelcomef
Course does not appear to welcome Golf Now tee times
In need of a greens keeper!
The course was in very good shape, failways well cared for.
The grass on the greens were poor at best, not your typical cut, like playing winter greens.
Over all had a fun round, saw ton of wildlife and enjoyed the quiet.
Flying L
Course was in great shape greens still need a little work.
Great time
The fairways were in good condition, but the greens were rather bumpy. I had both of my sons (junior golfers) with me and I had no idea for a junior golfer they only charge 10 bucks. I would have saved money because I bought our times on golfnow. It was a nice round and I will be back soon. Thanks
Terrible condition
This course had a decent layout and in the spring when everything is green I'm sure it's nice.
But when I went it was completely dead and dry plus greens were very bumpy. Course was busy so pace was slow.
Not worth the one hour drive from San Antonio and $30 I payed on golfnow.
Great Value in the country
Great course for fun with friends.
Great value for the money with your round easily under 4 hours.
Great place for group to play the are mid to high handicap as it is wide open.
Good food and drinks after the round.
A hill country beauty
Put this course on your list of courses to play in the hill country. Located in the cowboy capital of the world, this course is loaded with charm. Even the ride getting to the course is beautiful.
Your course was in great shape for January, the staff was extremely friendly, and we thoroughly enjoyed our day there.
Flying L golf course
Nice course. Quite challenging for first visit. Would definitely go again.
Good course for novice golfee
Middle tees are a good distance for short hitters. Mix of challenging and forgiving holes. Staff is great. Have never seen course in horrible shape
Good course
Overall, it was a very good course. The greens were in great shape as well as the bunkers. The staff members were friendly and helpful. I will be a repeat customer.
i agree. its a different rules for golfnow holder. will not go back anymore.
