Flying L Guest Ranch Golf Course
About
The majestic, rolling hills and towering oaks of the scenic Texas Hill Country serve as a backdrop to the Flying L Guest Ranch Golf Course & Resort. The course begins with a challenging front nine with numerous doglegs and uneven lies at every turn. The signature hole, the par-3 seventh, features a green that is surrounded by water on three sides and a spectacular view of the mountains. Flying L Guest Ranch Golf Course & Resort's back nine is less challenging than the front nine, but it has a few interesting surprises in store. It has a more classic and open layout than the front nine, but there are four holes with water and several strategically placed bunkers to watch out for. Flying L also features a two-tiered driving range with a chipping and putting green.

Not worth the drive
The course is in bad shape, lots of weeds on the greens and definitely impacted putts. If you get off the fairway, you will see a ton of rock, not worth damaging your club over. Staff is always very friendly but since its a 30-40 minute drive from Helotes, its not worth the drive. We got behind some folks on the second 9 that had no clue what "ready golf" was and really slowed down pace of play to add to the misery of this course. Sorry, but I have tried this one 3 times now and probably not going back.
player
good challenging course course and beautiful environment . Fairways a bit spotty but greens good .
No cakewalk for sure
Decent shape for winter. Greens were really pretty smooth and no bad spots - also pretty fast. Pins were in tough places on many holes. Just enough slopes on greens to make some puts very difficult. Rough is fair in some spots but a lot has rocks and mud after recent rains. 8 & 9 very difficult to end front 9 and then 10 stays difficult . Eases a bit for few holes then toughens up again. 18 is very difficult unless you hit a long drive and don't get too close to right side.
nice course
Nice course, with a great staff. Fun to play And a good challenge for all players.
Good roll
All the fairway grass is dormant this time of year in Texas. You can get some "ego" drives-the ball just rolls and rolls.
Good course
Played solo between two groups and the pace was fast enough to stay there
Greens in great shape! First hole I putted too fast so i slowed it down and did better
Overall great course!
Great Day in Bandera at the Flying L
Had a Great Time. Staff is helpful. The Course was in great shape for a winter round. Will be back.
Friendly people, fun course
Staff was very courteous and welcoming. Other golfers on back deck after round were friendly and happy. Course was in usual central Texas winter condition. Greens rolled true, but fairways were very tight and dormant. Fair though. Started at 11:30 with threesome. One group let us through on 5th hole, and finished in 3.5 hours!
Great Value
The staff was very friendly. Food is great. Pace of play was under 4 hrs. Course was in great shape although greens were rolling a bit slow. Overal experience was a 9 out of 10.
Good deal
Been playing here for years. Great shape for time of year.
Great Views friendly staff and clientelle...
The Flying L 18 Hole golf Course in Bandera is simply a very cool little Hill country Course. The staff is always professional and willing to assist you.
the course itself is very well kept and is a pleasure to play. Added plusses are the Texas Hlll Country clime and majestic hlll country views. For those who haven"t yet , they should take the time to explore this Texas Hill Country Gem.
Nice corse with very friendly staff
The pro shop staff were the most friendly and professional
Nice course
Great price, it rained night before and course was great next day. Little challenging but, great overall had family in town and they enjoyed it too.
First timers
The course was in excellent condition. The staff was friendly and so were the residents who line the course. The only draw back was we were a foursome and everyone else was a twosome. We play at a fast pace but the twosomes kept riding up on us teeing before we were off the fairways. After letting two twosomes play thru the next set were doing the same thing. They didn't show any kind of curtesy by riding up on us. They should know that a twosome in separate carts will play faster. It looked like a race behind us with no Marshall in sight. We finish in under 4 hours but still felt rushed. Would I play this course again ? YES. But I would bring my running shoes.
Good Course
Fun course with some interesting rough areas. Always enjoy playing this course.
great place to spend an afternoon.
Love the layout. Still have not figured out number 8.
Tricky layout on this hole. Almost an optical illusion.
Enjoy full
Staff made it even more pleasant! Open areas; good for practicing and pace was great
Fun times
Have always enjoyed playing Flying L
and will continue to play there
fantastic and improved conditions
Wow what an improvement. Tee boxe a were green and soft. All fairways were in excellent conditions. Soft green and noticed that most people were sanding tjeir divots which is a sign of gratefulness in return. Greens were also soft and well covered. The bunkers were properly sanded raked and well maintained as well. Full round in 3.5 hrs for a high handicapper. The scenery was breath taking. The drive from san antonio was easy driving w no traffic either way. I was happy w the place and do plan on coming back.
