Overview of front 9 Photo submitted by cklep1969 on 07/28/2013
Disappointing
I played here several years ago and expected better conditions. Huge, unseeded, ungrassed patches of ground were present on all fairways. I also found uneven ground and clods of dirt on many of the fairways. The cart paths throughout the course were in serious disrepair. I was most distressed with the uncontrolled fire ant problem. The tee box on hole 15 was so overrun with fire ants that it was impossible to properly set up for the tee shot. I won’t play here again.
Need a 4x4
Colovista is a private community located in Bastrop, Texas, which offers a unique living experience with its golf course, amenities, and home options. However, this review will highlight some of the issues faced by the community, including neighborhood amenities, the condition of the golf course, and the management of the Property Owners Association (POA).
Neighborhood Amenities One of the significant concerns for residents of Colovista is the lack of neighborhood amenities. The community is described as having no recreational facilities, playgrounds, or other common areas that would typically be found in similar private communities. This lack of amenities can be a major drawback for families and individuals who are looking for a comfortable and enjoyable living environment.
Rundown Golf Course Another issue faced by Colovista residents is the poor condition of the golf course. The course has been described as rundown and not suitable for play. This is a major concern for those who purchased homes in the community with the expectation of having access to a well-maintained golf course. The poor state of the golf course not only detracts from the overall value of homes in the community but also diminishes the enjoyment of living in the area for golf enthusiasts.
Property Owners Association (POA) and Annual Dues Colovista’s POA is responsible for managing the community and maintaining its amenities, including the golf course. However, there have been concerns raised about how the POA is handling its responsibilities and the allocation of annual dues. Homeowners in Colovista are required to pay an annual POA fee of $1,100, which is said to be used exclusively for the maintenance and upkeep of the golf course.
Residents have expressed dissatisfaction with this arrangement, as they feel that their dues are being mismanaged and not used to improve other aspects of the community. Furthermore, there have been allegations of corruption and misuse of funds within the POA, with some residents claiming that a select few are using the dues for their personal gain under the guise of maintaining the golf course.
Comparison with Other POAs in Bastrop It is essential to note that Colovista is not the only private community in Bastrop with a POA and annual dues. The Colony, another private community in the area, also has an annual POA fee of $1,100. However, The Colony offers a vast array of amenities, including swimming pools, playgrounds, trails, lakes, canoes, and much more. This comparison highlights the discrepancy between the amenities offered by the two communities and the allocation of funds by their respective POAs.
Conclusion In summary, Colovista is a private community in Bastrop, Texas, with several issues that have caused dissatisfaction among its residents. The lack of neighborhood amenities, the poor condition of the golf course, and the alleged mismanagement of POA funds are significant concerns that potential buyers should be aware of before investing in a home in the community.

Poor conditions
I don't think I have ever seen worse fairways. It was a moonscape of dirt patches, especially the front 9. Range balls were also about as bad as I have ever seen. On a positive note, the greens were in good shape and if the course was taken care of, I think it could be a good course. The course was inexpensive, but not cheap enough. Given its condition and remote location, I would not choose to make the journey to this course again.
Going back
Cool layout, friendly employee, good greens, some bare fairways. A great value for the price we paid, it’s kinda hard to find if ur not from around there. Very laid back, will definitely be returning
Greens are nice!
Fairways are rough but the greens are very nice! 🤷🏻♂️
Would definitely play this course over Bastrop river club.

ColoVista - Bastrop
For this time of the year in Texas the course was in very good shape. Fairways were a little spotty but nothing that you could not deal with. Greens were great condition and fast. Overall a really nice Course with a nice layout. Front nine and back nine are unique and makes for a fun round of golf. My only complaint is that there was no water on the Course. All water stations were empty. Not good when playing in the heat.
Good budget course
Can’t beat the price for under $40 for 18 holes. Generally out of maintenance but that’s what you get for a budget round. Was the only place we could get on within 100 miles on a weekend morning with 3 days notice. Fairways were shot but the greens were green and nice. Better than expected for a 100*+ heatwave month.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any maintenance issues you experienced during your round. We're glad to hear that the greens met your expectations and that you were able to play on short notice.
Don’t Golf Here
Been to dozens of courses in the Austin area, this one is painfully bad. Drove out to Bastrop to try something new, and boy am i disappointed i did that. You drive up a small windy road and see a plantation-like mansion staring you down. Tiny pro shop, and the gentleman at the counter was barely awake and slightly helpful. We were told 30 min before our tee time that they were out of carts….. and weren’t given a a timeline or anything, we weren’t even told we had to wait. Eventually got golf carts and proceeded to the unmarked tee box. The first hole fairway is one of the worst fairways i have ever seen. Slants right, 80% of it is dirt or rocks, and you guessed it - my first drive (in the middle of the fairway) did not land in any grass. This was literally par for the course - the BEST hole on the course i would rate a 6 out of 10, but most of the holes are a 3 or 4 out of 10. The only saving grace was the greens, which were decent and not bad. I will never go here again, considering the drive out there and the experience.
We apologize for the negative experience you had at our golf course. We strive to provide a high-quality experience for our customers, and we understand your disappointment with the condition of the fairways. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to improve our course. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.
Pictures deceiving.
First off the staff were very friendly and helpful, we found out that the course had been closed for a number of years and that not a lot of money was being put into it. That definitely showed, fairways were overgrown and really beat up. Bunkers were just dirt holes, tee boxes were in rough shape. Only thing good were the greens and some of the views. Very sad that the sign says country club when it's clearly not even close.
We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any disappointment you experienced during your visit to our course. We take your comments seriously and will take them into consideration to make necessary improvements. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
Golf course
I’ve played here multiple times. It has very beautiful views, challenging holes, but this past time I was there the fairways were in very bad shape with random dirt patches on several holes. Unmaintained sand bunkers, and greens weren’t as taken care of as well as they have in the past.
We appreciate your feedback and we apologize for the inconvenience you experienced during your recent visit. Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention and we will take them into consideration in order to improve our course maintenance.
No effort
The course was in Terrible shape 5.27.23. Fairways are like a battlefield. Cart paths are like a battlefield. Sand traps are not sand traps as there is no sand (they are small lakes with weeds growing thru). Literally zero effort put into making this course decent. Food options are a hot dog machine not even turned on, cold. No drink cart making rounds. Got a good rate thru a 3rd party and was still barely worth the money paid. Really beautiful views on some holes...just too bad nobody cares to make the course nice. The staff was really nice too, but I will not be back.
Thank you for sharing your experience and bringing these details to our attention. We apologize for the negative sentiment, and we will work hard to improve the conditions of the fairways, cart paths, and sand traps to ensure a more enjoyable experience for our guests. We appreciate your feedback and the time you took to leave a review.
Hole 15 is the Only Pull
I went With good friends and was frustrated with the fairway conditions. You are not paying premium prices by any means. But it did affect performance. A member of the staff came by and told our group to “play faster” which has NEVER happened to me in my days. Our group was playing objectively fast and was often waiting on the group ahead of us. Very disingenuous thing to say. Overall would not recommend. However, hole 15 had a beautiful view.
