Great course but
Our threesome played Carolina Springs today. The course was in terrific shape with lush fairways and smooth greens. Our only issue was the group ahead of us that had 3 adults with two children (about 6-8 years). I don't mind them letting the kids hit the ball sometimes, but the female adult in the group played the entire round hitting two or three balls from every tee. We just maintained our social distance and hoped they would drop out after nine holes. There was a ranger on the course, but he never seemed to notice what was going on After picking up a great hotdog at the turn, we found the same group playing the back also. Our round took 5 hours and even though my partner had his best round ever, it was a long day.
Fun Course
Fun course to play. The staff is great. My wife likes it as it is lady friendly.
Reveiw from the Yellow (Gold) Tees
I played the course a few weeks ago from the forward (Red) tees and found the course very easy to play. I went back and played the Yellow (Gold) tees and I prefer playing from theses tees because it makes it a bit more challenging but still fun.
The yardage difference between Red and Yellow tees is only 800 yards but playing from the yellow tees, water comes into play. For example needing to drive over a pond. And a few holes feel much longer. There is one hole that is a par four and on the card it doesn't seem long but it is all uphill so getting on the green in two is a real challenge if you are not long off the tee.
If you are a really high handicap or just staring the game definitely play the most forward (red) tees with a slope rating of 113 but for all other golfers that normally play "forward" tees, the yellow (or Gold on the scorecard) are a good pick with a slope rating of 123.
Local gem
The course was in excellent shape. The fairways were in excellent shape. The course is tough enough to challenge better players but fair enough to make it enjoyable for higher handicapped players. My son and I will definitely be back.
Wide Open Fairways - Feel Free to Pull Out Your Driver
I really enjoyed Carolina Springs with it's wide open fairways which is a green light for you to rip it down the fairway. There are a few doglegs and some water but from the forward tees the water really is not in play. The fairways were lush and the greens were in great condition (I only noted 2 greens that had some damage which is amazing given the record rains in the upstate this year).
If you have not read my reviews before, I review courses from the forward tees. The only reason for the 4 stars (and not 5 stars) was the condition of the forward "tee boxes." I put quotes around tee boxes because many of the forward tees were not actual tee boxes but the tees were just placed in the fairway. But the really issue was the uneven lies. For example, the 15th tee (Par 5), in fairway, ball above your feet to the point you had to grip down on your driver. So if they are going to have tees in the fairway at least pick a level spot.
Value can't be beat - in general the price is great but if you are 55 that makes you a senior and the weekday rate was only $28. Range balls (small bucket) $4.00
I did not eat at the course but the folks we were paired with said the food is great.
I will definitely play again but next time I will move back and play from the GOLD tees so that I am playing from actual tee boxes.
One of My Favorites
Carolina Springs never disappoints. From check-in to round completion, our group had a great time. Cant wait to play there again.
Journey Back to Carolina Springs
I played Carolina Springs with my 3 golfing buddies today. It had been a couple of years since I played there last. I was amazed at the course conditions: the fairways were lush, the zoysia greens rolled true, and the pace of play was comfortable. It's over 50 miles for me to play there but I will be back soon. The hotdog at the turn was super.
Excellent Experience
The course was in immaculate condition, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
