Superb course with awesome views
Really nice course that is very challenging with awesome views of the mountains. Make sure your putter is ready as the greens are in great shape and fast. Beautiful course for everyone.
Woodlands golf
Beautiful and superbly maintained. Nice layout amount the pines and homes
lining the course. Not too difficult if you can hit it straight off the tee. Great greens even though they had verticut and sanded a few days prior to our round. A bit disappointed as there was no GPS on board the carts. All said and done a wonderful time on a very nice course.
Great Course
The woodlands is a great course. The staff is always friendly and extremely attentive to any requests. The course is well maintained and offers beautiful scenery.
GreT course!
The course was in excellent condition, with near perfect tee boxes and wide fairways. It was challenging. Pace of play was great. Greens were a bit slower than what I was used to, but they were fair.
Excellent experience
Well maintained, fun and challenging course. Good staff and excellent experience overall.
Great Course
My wife and I were on a golfing vacation from California. The course was in excellent condition. It was challenging and well laid out. We have played it in the past and is the number one course we play when we are in Oregon. Everyone working at course was cheerful and very helpful. I would highly recommend this course and I will play it again next time we are in Oregon.
Tight off the tee
Great course, McDivots is a great restaurant and turn service. Awesome time in north Sunriver.
Woodlands v. Meadows
Don't waste your time greens were not in the great condition expected for the money. The fringe was not much of a fringe. Amenities also sad, with no drink girl seen. The carts were not in the best condition...though club drop personnel were very kind and respectful. If playing in Sun River and unwilling to drive 20-25 minutes to worth every dollar spent courses...go to Woodlands!
Just opened but...
The course was OK. For me that is almost a negative review insomuch as we have seen and played much better courses for much less money. Because this is quite early in the season some of the features we are accustomed to were not available, such as: washrooms were not open, there no distance markers anywhere (a few sprinkler heads but that was it), no marshals to be seen and the greens were quite sandy which is understandable but...
I doubt very much we would play it again. Possibly the Meadows or the Crosswater courses but the pricing seems extravagant considering everything.
Great for average players
Don't play the latter part of October as we had frost delays. They also interfered with our round by shutting down the season...removing yardage markers, blowing out irrigation lines while groups were still playing.
One of my favorites
As a Sunriver member I play this course regularly.
I love the layout as every hole is different with elevation changes and a variety of doglegs.
The course is always in great condition with well groomed fairways and quick, true and receptive greens.
My only criticisms are that the sand traps need more sand - very hard in places and the rough is punishing.
The views and surroundings are wonderful.
SR Woodlands
Beautiful views.
Generous fairways, but if you wander the rough can be punishing.
Challenging but fun.
I live in Sunriver, on the 16th Fairway of the Woodlands. I purchase an annual pass so I can play either the Woodlands or Meadows as often as possible. Love both courses. Woodlands is a bit more challenging and has varied features. Water comes into play, fairways can be a bit narrow, most greens are elevated. Grass beyond the mowed rough can be very thick so accurate shots are best. Greens run very true and can be fast. McDivots is where you can get food and beverages or from the beverage cart. Both are OK, but McDivots closes too early. Beautiful scenery.
Keep it Straight!
A challenging, but fair course, with plenty of tree lined fairways. Need to keep it straight or you will either get blocked or a tree will knock down your ball. A few forced carries and water hazards waiting for the inadvertent slice. The course is usually in great shape and has lots of interesting holes.
Tough but fair course, beautiful surroundings
Great and challenging layout, but tough on inaccurate players. Second cut of rough is difficult, third cut is impossible. Bunkers are the worst element of the Woodlands course, as sand is sparse and pebbly making bunker play more difficult than ordinarily.
Greens decent and roll true, but hard to hold.
However, layout and surroundings make up for any shortcomings.
Hit a provisional if you get into the tall grass.
If your ball sails into the tall grass along every fairway you will be very lucky to find it or if you do you will be very lucky to get it out. The tall rough gets watered, but not cut. The course is well maintained and can be a fun outing, but keep it on the fairway. the course is well run and the staff employees are friendly and helpful. There are lots of trees on this course and on some holes they come into play because they are situated in the middle of the fairway. Several holes have water to avoid, but none of the hazards are blind. Ball placement is your friend on this course. The views on almost every hole are spectacular, so if your game is not going so well at least you can enjoy the scenery. I would not recommend this course for a beginner because it would turn into a frustrating round of golf. It is fine for the intermediate golfer who has some control of their ball flight. Experts have a lot of fun. There are five teeing positions to select based on the golfers ability. Admittedly, there are always some golfers who select a teeing position beyond their ability and end up having a miserable round. Woodlands is a course built for fun.
A memorable experience!
This course is a good challenge for any level of golfer...fairways, traps and greens...all parts of your game.
very nice golfing experience in Central Oregon
A very well designed layout for the course. One of my favorite courses to play due to the scenery, trees and general ambiance.
The course was is good conditions, with the greens putting true and medium-fast. Typically, the ball would bounce and roll a little, even with a high iron approach shot.
Tony. Thanks for the input. Just one clarification, your post is reviewing the Woodlands, not the Meadows. If you do in fact enjoy the Woodlands a second rating reflecting the Woodlands course would be great. Thank you!
