Great Experience
If you are going to golf at Isle of Palms, this is definitely the place to go. Although it is slightly more expensive than Wild Dunes' Harbor Course, it is in better condition and has a wider range of holes with different feels.
Although I found a few holes to be somewhat plain and nothing to write home about (i.e., 1, 14, 15), there are so many others that are somewhat unique (i.e., 10, 12) and scenic (i.e., 16, 17, 18) that on-balance it was a great golf experience and a good break from my regular tracks.
The course was overall in excellent condition (other than a few tee boxes that were a little rough), the greens were firm and rolled true and the fairways were in good shape.
To a person, the staff that we interacted with was friendly, helpful and courteous - like they were truly pleased to have you at the course.
Also, unlike the Harbor Course, this course was not crowded and we were able to play at our own pace (a twosome, were able to finish in around 3.5 hours).
Further, unlike the Harbor Course, there is a driving range and ample parking.
Bottom Line: A great golf experience. Course is beautiful, varied, in great condition and not over-crowded. It will definitely be my first choice for Isle of Palms golf in the future.
Wonderful course, challenging, Last three holes along the ocean gorgeous. Definitely a multi-repeat
Good not great
We played the Links on our first visit to Charleston. We had some not great weather which may have colored my opinion of the course a bit. The course was in good condition, very tight. The few holes on the water were very pretty, but overall I think too expensive for a less than memorable course.
We played Stono Ferry on John’s Island the next day and my husband and I were far more impressed for half the price.
This course is well maintained.
The fairways are well maintained. Nice layout and last holes great view of the Atlantic Ocean.
Good challenge
Much better than the Harbor course, which is unnecessarily narrow and has postage stamp greens. The Links course is a proper course, representing a proper challenge of your golfing skills.
Love the course, it was so much fun to play. All the holes had something different and challenging about them. Had a blast on this course.
Bad from every angle
We played both the Harbour and links course out here for a small golf trip and we all left disappointed. The course conditions on the Harbour course were so sad to see given this being a Fabio designed course. Tee boxes filled with sand, torn up fairways that are wet, extremely slow greens, and horrible carts carts, direction of the course or next holes, tee boxes, etc.
The links course was better but only because of the views which is only really one hole because it is on the ocean. Course is some parts are under construction, more slow greens, no signage, no yardage.
We also were set up with an 8am tee time and they didn’t have anything open for breakfast(no other food close by). The only breakfast spot by the pro shop said they were shut down because not enough staff showed up. This was unbelievably disappointing all around.
Solid course and holes on the ocean at high tide are incredible
It was a solid course and would play again. Is it worth 280? Probably not. The course was definitely in good condition. I also will say that there’s really only one hole along the ocean.
Worth the money*
Was able to play this course thanks to a significant discount through GolfNow, and it was worth every penny of the discount rate! Don’t know if I would pay full price to play it ($260?!), but definitely worth it at about half that!
WD links
Course was very fair and well maintained. Greens recently aerated however were very nice.
Did not operate as a resort caliber course.
Having played this course a few years ago, was excited to come back after some recent renovations.
Had a 730 tee time on a Wednesday. Showed up at 700 to warm up and check in. Pro shop staff hadn’t arrived yet, so we couldn’t buy range balls.
Went to putt while we waited, but were told by grounds crew that the putting green was closed due to needing to water it.
Pro shop finally opened around 720 - so no time to hit balls before we teed off.
Staff said nothing about the greens being micro-punched on Monday or that we were starting on 10 that day (16-18 as your closing holes are the reason you play the links course as they finish along the ocean).
Didn’t see a beverage cart at all during our round to get waters between the turn or the two coolers on the course.
Grounds crew was still mowing and raking while we were on our back nine.
Physical layout of the course was great - super playable course for all skill levels - but the experience left much to be desired, as compared to other resort courses in the southeast.
Greens were aerated. Started on the back side which obviously had been aerated first and were recovering not good but ok. The front side Greens were perceptibly worse. Had called the pro shop before I made the green fee purchase and was told that they were lightly tined which unfortunately turned out not to be true. Great layout
Great Golf
The course was in AAA shape eve though the greens had recently been aerated!
HORRIBLE PRO STAFF - AWFUL EXPERIENCE
HORRIBLE PRO SHOP STAFF! Sad to have to leave a review like this, especially with how beautiful of a course. But the pro staff are extremely un-friendly and not helpful in any way. I spent over $400 total between golf, food and drinks just to get 9 holes due to the slow groups in front before it became too dark. Upon coming in I talked with the starter and one of the managers who said I could come back to play the back 9 and see the ocean holes. When calling the next day to speak to the pros, I was told with attitude I can’t come finish and that I would have to pay for another 18. AWFUL EXPERIENCE
Slow Play, No Rangers
I have played here many times but never had a slow round like this. It was a relatively quiet day and I expected the normal four hour round. Unfortunately, there was a foursome in front of us who seemed to be trying to win the US Open. We waited on every shot which translated into a 2.5 hour front nine. They never thought to ask us if we'd like to play through. There also weren't any rangers on the course to me maintain the pace of play. I left after nine holes because of how torturous the pace was. I paid a lot of money to be frustrated like this. I expected better service and course management.
Isle of Palms experience
The course conditions were 4,5 out of 5. The greens had recently fertilized and so not true putting conditions. The layout was fun and challenging.
Had a great time.
