University Ridge Golf Course is just 15 minutes from the University of Wisconsin campus and downtown Madison. The course's name comes from the defining feature of the landscape, a remnant of the last retreating glacier. The course is perched right where the Wisconsin Glacier stopped, providing the backbone of the ridge that divides the terrain into clusters of hills and valleys. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the golf course with distinctly different front and back nines that make it feel like you are playing two courses in one. The front nine plays across grassy meadows, featuring contoured fairways and generous landing areas. Wind will definitely be a challenge on this more open nine. In contrast, mature trees frame most of the holes on the back nine. The golf course finishes with two of its toughest holes: a long par 3 over water and then another long hole, a par 4 that plays uphill.

The course was well maintained and the layout was good. The greens were fast and tough for bogies players. In the first few holes the pace was slow, the ranger came and separated a foursome to two twosomes which improved the pace. Definitely will come back again.

Fun course!

Course in very good shape, greens large and undulated very challenging. Don't hit the ball too far offline or you can end up in woods or natural grass pretty easy. A handful of somewhat quirky holes plus five par 5s and 5 par 3s. Overall well worth the trip and the money.

4.5. Fabulous layout, and friendly staff. My only two knocks were 1) The cart interrupted my calm mood too many times with silly warnings. Warnings that you could not expect. I would recommend that the staff tone the carts down a bit. 2) Having a Marshall to keep the pace of moving would help. Although we finished in less than 4 1/2 hours, The group ahead of us was two holes behind.
