Deer Creek State Park Golf Course
About
Deer Creek State Park Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course that is one of Jack Kidwell's many designs. On this course, Kidwell, an Ohio native, utilized the scenic natural landscape of mature trees and native Ohio Bluegrass. The course has a gently rolling terrain but it is still easy to walk. The diverse layout has four par 3s heavily guarded by water and trees, 10 lengthy par 4s, and four par 5s. It is a formidable test of your shot-making and course management skills. The long fairways are lined with trees and the challenging greens putt smooth and true. Throughout the golf course there are more than 50 strategically placed bunkers and ten ponds coming into play. In addition to the course, Deer Creek State Park also offers a driving range, practice bunker, and chipping area.

Second time
Was actually a great day but we followed the greens keeper and he had every sprinkler on until we got to the tee box. Every green and fairway was soaked.
course was rough
After 3 days of rain, course was not in good condition. Surprised they allowed carts in the fairways seeing how wet it was. Staff was very good.
She plays long
Deer Creek is a nice course. She is very flat. Most of her holes bend subtly left or right depending where they are located in relationship to the large pond that lies in the middle of the course and comes in to play on several of the holes. Her rough is a bit thick and the fairways at Deer Creek are a bit long in yardage and length of grass. They will offer you a bit less roll than most courses. On windy days she will play long and make par a real challenge. Deer Creeks greatest feature are her Donald Rossesque greens that run down hill, feature slopes that must be accounted for, and are very smooth and true.
Won't be coming back.
Greens were in good shape but the fairways were in poor shape (lots of bare spots and weeds). Bunkers were rocky.
nice greens average fairways
Greens were small but in good condition. There was not much variation in the hole layouts. Fairways were really beat up in places.
Course conditions
I have played here many times over the last few years but yesterday was the worst conditions I have ever seen. Fairways had so many burnt-out areas from standing water that grass was hard to find. Greens slow and bumpy , looks like they didn't move holes from weekend play. What grass was in fairways hadn't been cut in a few days.
Good Course for the $$
Got to play this course on a golfnow special. well worth the drive. Would like to have stayed at the state park and enjoyed some fishing and camping too.
slow
I( like the course , it plays long but this is just the 2nd time I have played here and both times it was wait, wait, wait every hole .
I wish it were closer
I'd play it quite often if it weren't so far from Columbus. Nice layout. Great price. Always able to get on. Long enough to make you hit a variety of clubs if you are a longer hitter.
Some of the greens were Not in the best condition. A bit thin and patchy in places. Running pretty slow in general. One green has a bad burn from leaking hydraulic fluid from a mower. The fairways were a little on the furry side. Made the course play longer. I imagine they have had to be careful with not cutting too short since its been so dry this year.
The bunkers aren't the greatest either. Don't drain real well and are a very heavy coarse consistency. Most were playable but you need a 60 degree low bounce lob wedge for most shots out of them.
On the whole it isn't the most manicured course, but I still find it pleasant and a good value.
Good value, challenging layout ...
It had been several years since I played Deer Creek. What I had forgotten was it's length. At 6,600+ from the white tees, it can be challenging for a 67-year-old who doesn't pound the ball 250 yards down the fairway anymore. But, the gold tees, at 5,700 yards is a tad too short for my game. We played the white tees and I hit a lot of hybrids and 3-woods. Not a complaint, but an observation ... something in between 6,600 and 5,700 would be nice. Otherwise, it was a fun round of golf on a course my group enjoyed playing for a very reasonable price.
Deer Creek
Good value for hot deal price.
Great course
It plays long ,Still is well manicured,
Great Unexpected Find, With One Caveat
This is a course you'll want to play a day or two after some rain, especially over the summer. Even this early in the season, a couple of the greens were burned out in spots, and the fairways will eventually suffer the same fate as the summer heat pours in. That being said, despite it being relatively flat, the course has a nice layout with holes that will challenge you to be accurate off the tee. It's in the middle of a state park, so the amenities won't blow you away, but it was much better than I had anticipated.
A word of caution though: the clubhouse patio and the area near the cart return have a severe bee problem. I counted no less than 50 yellowjackets hovering around the patio while eating a snack on the turn.
Deer Creek
Thoroughly enjoyed this round. It was still a little chilly, so not a lot of other golfers which made the round move along very nicely. The course was in great shape considering the time of the year and the staff was extremely friendly.
Course is very fair
Played as a riding twosome in about 3.5 hours. Course was better than average for this time of year. Started play about 11:30 and had no one behind us. Temperature was only about 50 degrees but virtually no wind, This made playing conditions acceptable. I would definitely return
