Fun day at San Marcos
Greens a bit bumpy but overall a pleasant experience.j
Course was a lot of fun. No stupid holes. Nice layout. Loved all the old trees.
Needs Time From Overseeiding
Clubhouse staff outstanding as usual. Nice lady at the turn for food and drink also outstanding. Starter was pretty good but didn't offer much. He said the greens were much better than a few weeks ago. Actually, the greens were pretty bad except for a few holes. Very bumpy and not in good shape. One really cold day and they might not recover. The fairways were green but much too long, could have been confused with the rough, which was crazy long. The round took nearly five hours, which for a beautiful Sunday is probably expected. However, we didn't see a Ranger all day. I expect the conditions to improve, so I'll be back most likely during the week.
I'm from the Midwest and while I enjoy desert courses it was a treat to find this gem with all its green grass roughs, plentiful excellent sand traps, and numerous trees. The pace was perfect and the staff was friendly and attentive. Couldn't ask for a better round.
For only being a week out of over seeding and aerating the course was in outstanding condition. The traps were well maintained and the greens had decent pace although still a little bumpy.
My only criticism of the course was the layout itself. If you like flat, wide fairways and straight ahead holes you will love San Marcos. I, myself like a variety in the layout.
Head Pro was extremely nice and the three some I was grouped with was outstanding.
All in all it was a great day.
Nice course. Much better shape than a few yrs ago when I last played. Because of over seeding the greens were a little tough to put on but they will fill in. Look forward to playing it again.
I was going to be in Feenix for a couple of days and decided to try and find a reasonably priced round of golf. The price was pretty good for this time of year and the website was enticing so I tried it.
Friendly assistants at the drop, nice chap in the pro shop, and I was paired with nice folks too. The putting and chipping greens were sufficient but the range used restricted distance balls, weird but ok for getting the back loosened up.
The course is quite pretty and interesting, the houses are near but no too near.
I found myself in sand traps a time or two and they were quite playable.
It was cartpath only and the greens were recovering from the usual Fall maintenance but I expected that for the price.
I'll play again next time I'm in town.
Course is looking great after overseeding
After the overseed, the greens are slow but as to be expected
Interesting, Older Course in Chandler
Very interesting round with some highs and lows. The lows: had an 11:30 tee time and got off at 12:15. Seems there was a tournament ahead of us and they put them out in a shotgun. Wanted to hit a few balls and paid three dollars for plastic balls. The hitting area was small and I get that they need plastic balls, but to charge anything for them is a little cheezy. Also a 464 yard par 4??? The next hole was the same length and a par 5. Go figure.
Highs: the staff was very friendly and courteous. The course had a nice layout and an interesting flow to it. Tee to green, the course was full of new grass from the over seeding and came in well, but not mowed on some holes. The pace of play was great and the course really offered a variety of holes. It was very enjoyable after we got off the first tee. Would not hesitate to come back.
All in all a good day and a very nice course to play for the money.
Course did not put warning on golf now about scalped grass for overseed
I don’t mind that courses overseed and scalp the grass. I do mind when they sell tee times and they don’t tell guests what they are buying.
Unique, historic course.
The course was in great shape and fun but for at least the 4th time this summer we showed up and they did not have the golf now reservation even though golf now sent me a confirmation. Golf now has to fix this
There is NO point in using it if this keeps happening. The guy at the course was great though and got us on.
Great shape and good upgrades
The course was in great shape for this time of year. Liked the upgrades they have done to the clubhouse and bar as well.
Another fine round at San Marcos
Conditions were nice after a monsoon strewed debris all over the Valley. The course staff is to be commended as practically NO evidence was observed by Us.
Greens rolled out smoothly just like last time and fairways are good as well with only a few areas that were thin. Still enjoy the mature trees providing plenty of shade even though it was only 104 !
This is a classic course design I will continue to enjoy to break-up outings at local desert courses. THANKS.
course is in great shape
greens were great and well kept
i'll be back
