Great desert views.
Course was in excellent shape. Greens not too fast. Very fun course for average golfer.
Very poor condition
This course is probably in the worst condition of any course I’ve ever played. It may be under construction but the price to value here is completely unacceptable.
Embarrassing
I brought friends that were here on vacation from MN. This course is trashed. Spend the couple extra bucks and go to Sedona.
Course is in fair condition, Staff is great!
The course is in fair condition. Fairways are decent, roughs have little to very lean bermuda, greens are in fair condition. Some greens have areas of repair and can be soft in areas.
Pro Shop staff and Eduardo in the lounge were great! Pace of play can be slow in the AM due to the Men's club on Monday's & Friday.. But I was lucky enough to be paired with 2 guys who were a lot of fun to play a round of golf with. Making for a enjoyable day on the course.
Staff is great, condition of course is fair
The staff @ Agave were great, friendly & helpful, from the Pro Shop, maintenance crew to cart barn attendants! The course condition is fair. Fairways have enough grass to hit off. The roughs are just that. Having areas with little to skimpy Bermuda grass to hit off. Layout is fun with some challenging shots to clear barrancas, but nice. The greens are fair, some have areas being repaired & are a bit slow. Overall if looking for a full length course to get a round in that is 1/2 the cost of courses in Sedona. Give it a go!
Stay away!
This was easily the worst course I’ve ever played. No way should a round of golf cost more than $20 here. The course conditions were beyond awful. Save yourself from wasting $70+
Not worth it
Over seeding is common in Oct but should be mentioned when reserving (cart path only on all holes - one temp green). Ground is hard and dry. Fairway grass is spotty at best and greens are have numerous bald and diseased spots that prevent true ball roll when putting. I would not play there again unless it was a third of the price.
ROUGH GREENS....CHALLENGING LAYOUT
Although a relatively short course at 6400 yard from the back tees, this course offered a real challenge for the average golfer. However, the greans were not in very good condition.
Little rough but nice staff
Course is a bit rough but mainly in the places you should not hit it. Staff is super friendly as well as the locals. Always a place I want to play when I am in Sedona area.
Rough summer conditions
Simply a dry desert course that hasn't been watered enough. Many greens patchy and damaged (oddly receptive but in spotty health). Fairways were very hard and barren. Cart paths were uncomfortable and bumpy to drive. Some quirks to the course, so you really need to play with someone who has local knowledge. Price didn't match quality. I won't make the trek to play it again.
Great Course To Get Outta Phoenix and Play
Friendly staff, challenging layout, great greens, and cooler than Phoenix.
Good Layout, Great People, Rough Course Condition
Played for the first time and it was a bit of a shock after playing other AZ courses this trip. The people are very nice and I was told things were better condition wise just a short time ago, so in all fairness they may be trying to get the greens to grow in? The course layout is fun and challenging, although there are no sand traps on the course. Less maintenance I suppose? The greens are pretty horrible, and again they may be in some transition phase. Most greens we have been playing in AZ are either quick or fast and these greens are similar to putting on a nicely mown tee box! Very Very Slow and Bumpy! You don't stroke a putt, you HIT a putt.
I did take into consideration the Covid thing as well as the labor issues out there, otherwise my rating would be 2 instead of 3. The other issue is the dormant bermuda is only beginning to grow, so if you are off the often narrow fairways even by a foot, you will likely be playing off mostly native sandy soft soil. When the bermuda pops I assume that will get better.
Overall it is a fun day on the course as we could certainly be doing other things, like shoveling snow at home or going to work at a job we don't want to do, so I actually would recommend the course to others if they are aware of the conditions! If you just want to go play some golf at a reasonable price and aren't worried about the issues previously mentioned, go for it! I think they could use the money:)
Don't Waste Your Money
A friend said this course was a pretty nice course with great greens but he hadn't played it in a while. It was immediately agreed, upon by all of our 8 players, that on this day the greens were nowhere close to great. In fact, they were terrible. In addition to poor greens condition, they appear to have no interest in marshalling play. We had a group in front of us that had at least 4 open holes in front of them. This group even stopped to have a small party on the 16th fairway while everyone behind had to wait for them in order to continue. A course employee drove by and didn't even address the situation. Finally the roughs were being rototilled during play, that's right rototilled, causing a huge cloud of dust over the playing area and settling on golfers in it's path. Roughs overall were nothing but dirt. The only positive comment I can give the course is it has a decent layout, great views, and potential to be very nice. The clubhouse restaurant and bar personnel were also very responsive, professional, and courteous. I would highly recommend replacing the grounds and overall course management teams immediately. Bottom line, save your money and stay away from this course until many improvements are made. I wouldn't play it again for free.
Worth the dive from Sedona
It's worth the short drive from Sedona to play here. Very nice course and staff. Course was in good condition, but the greens were very lumpy. I suspect it was due to the winter conditions.
Great Value
If you have not played this one yet, give it a try. Great price, fun, fair layout, and conditions are good for the money.
