Southern Ridge Golf Club
About
Southern Ridge Golf Club, formerly known as Bougainvillea Golf Club, offers some of the most stunning views anywhere in the valley. The South and Estrella Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop to the golf course. Southern Ridge is known for more than its views though, it has a unique layout that combines six par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s. The championship course plays to 6,751 yards. It offers a good amount of length for long hitters but it is still player-friendly enough for beginners thanks to generous fairways and large, undulating greens. Although the fairways are wide, don't be lulled into a sense of security. They are flanked with more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are enough challenges for an interesting round but it's not an overly difficult golf course.

Good practise
Course is a little rough aroundthe edges, and greens are quite small, but overall a good day.
Good for an affordable round
Greens, fairways and tee boxes were well maintained for the price (less than $30). Leave the fairways and this course could get frustratingly unplayable. If you are in the rough (where there is grass) your ball is just as likely to settle into some hole or rut as it is to be playable. Beyond the sparse grass surrounding the fairways there is a ton or hard-packed, rutted dirt and rock. I would suggest adopting a player friendly rule of placing or dropping the ball without accruing a penalty when in the grass to avoid undeservedly punitive shots. Also, perhaps treat the desert as an optional lateral hazard. Again, not a high end course but playable at the price they are asking.
Good value
Great greens and traps.
Very good value for the money
Had a great time enjoyed the course will play again
We had a great time playing the course it was in good condition and pace was good except for a single golfing ahead of us. Guess he figured he was a pro
Will return even with our long drive from Buckeye
Great value
Course was in good shape. Layout was very fair with very little water.
Tooooo Slow
I was very surprised by the course conditions since recent reviews had said the course was in excellent shape. The greens were fine, but the rest of the course was either too wet of totally without grass. There are clumps of dirt all over the place. The pace of play was very slow on the front 9. We asked if we could play through the foursome in front of us when we caught them on the 11th tee. We discovered that there was no one in front of them for many holes. We could have really used a marshal.
It's peaceful
Every time I'm gontonthis course the condition she are great and the greens are really nice. The staff always is great with me and you feel very welcome and are super friendly. I've been playing there for 2 years now and I feelmlike its a private course . It's does not have so much traffic . And I like that it feels like my own private course not overrated like othe courses .
Solid course, However lacking ambiance
Having played this course before I knew not to expect to see a beautiful course, however the 6/3, 6/4 ,6/5 par layout, is unique, and enjoyable. Fairways and greens are always way above average. Just stay out of the very "rough", roughs,. I have always found the staff to be very friendly. I will play there again. If you are an elitist do not play this course. That will leave more open "T" times for me.
The greens were a little fluffy
Hopefully they will keep up the course not let it go!
Enjoyable round
Greens were healthy but shaggy, and a threesome on the front, who were not even trying to play at an acceptable pace, finally let us through on11 tee after I had to ask. No Marshall presence on the front. But still enjoyed the day:)
Course is long and fun to play
The course was golf path only the day we played due to overseeding. Once it all gets done think the course will be fine. We did see a lot of gopher minds though. Hopefully that will also get fixed in the coming weeks
First Timer
First time playing this course. Easy to get to course off the 10. Conditions were not exactly the best, as they were getting ready to overseed, so the fairways and fringes were pretty scuffed up. Greens were very slow. Played very quickly...about 3 hours. Layout is wide open, so you really have to miss a shot to get into trouble. Would be fun to play this course when it is in good shape,
Fun round
Good course for the price. Green's and fairways well maintained with a nice open layout. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Can find better value closer to Phoenix
Course is in very poor condition! Greens did run nice, which is the only positive. Waste your hard earned dollars elsewhere.

Visually Ugly
Greens were in good condition and were challenging. Grass only covered middle of fairway. Bare ground on majority of fairway gave fhe course an ugly look. Greens fee in sync with course condition. You get what you pay for here.
We appreciate you taking the time to write a review. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the course's challenges.
We hope we will see you again soon!
Always improving
Ive played here several times and there is always an improvement each time.
The staff is very friendly and the food is good and reasonably priced.
Pricing is on point.
Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review about your experience with us. Thank you for the compliments towards our staff. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Ground Keeper
you need new ground keepers, I played one week earlier and the fairways and greens were really great. Come back a week later and the greens are scalped down to dirt almost, fairways has been cut down to the length of the greens. Aerations of fairways is ok, just pick up the 3-4 inch plugs, and Do Not use Aeration on the edge of the Greens, #2 hole was so bad I could not use a putter on the fringe. Tee boxes are terrible uneven sometimes soggy wet. I have played here since POLECAT, Cotton field era. Would Not recommend to a friend that has never played here before.
We appreciate you taking the time to write a review. We are sorry to hear that we did not exceed your expectations. Please email us at SouthernRidgeGC@outlook.com to speak further.
Price is Right
This course was purchased by new owners in August of 2015. They are working to bring it all the way back to life. They are trying very hard and it shows.
Location
This course is located less than 20 mile West of the PHX area. It's easy to reach from the 10 fwy in various directions.
The Range (for golf and cows):
This is a SMALL and UNmanicured patch of grass and dirt to hit balls to warm up. Nothing more and nothing less. Don't expect much here and you won't be disappointed.
Greens and Fairways
The greens are generally in great shape. A few barren spots on 2 greens, but otherwise neat and challenging. The fairways are wide and inviting and lined by houses and farmlands throughout. Most fairways are smooth and flat. Some are bumpy but will not be a problem.
Rough
It is exactly what the name implies: rough. This is where some might find this course offensive. The rough was weedy and barren dirt in most areas. If you hit it off the fairway you are likely not going to be happy. You will almost always have a second shot on this course, but it could be in thick weed (the main rough) or off dirt.
Pace of Play
Great (I played at 6:30 am): 3 hrs. They say usually around 4 hrs. to play the course.
The Course
This is a unique layout in as much as it has 6 par 3's; 6 par 4's and 6 par 5's. Water comes into play on 1 hole (#9). The are enough well placed bunkers to make you think (though many fairway bunkers were GUR).
Price
I paid $40 (that included cart). This course is easily worth $20-$40. At this time. I would not pay more. I can see the finished product going for $40-$75 once the renovations are complete.
Give this course a try. I think you'll enjoy the experience.
Thank you for the 4 star review! We are glad to hear that you recommend us to our golfers! We hope to see you back soon!
Good for cheap golf
This is a decent course but they could use some better facilities. They don't use a color or zone system for the pins, so you can't be precise with club selection (I like to pretend that I'm that good), and no color markings on the fairways either. I didn't need it because I have a GPS, but to be fair, they do have a yardage book in the pro shop.
Their driving range is pretty small and rough - I believe only about 4 stalls, but there's more room on each side to spread out. The ground is uneven and it's hard to find a good spot to practice from. The tee boxes and greens are actually in fairly nice shape. I don't remember any rough patches on any green, and the fairways weren't bad either. Lots of weeds though. The worst part of the course were the sides of the fairways - lots of ground under construction and lots of gopher holes. I guess that's the penalty for not being good enough to stay in the fairway. And if you happen to find a fairway bunker, they are all "ground under repair", so that's a plus - free drop! The greenside bunkers are in good shape with nice fluffy sand.
There was no cart girl on a Saturday morning, and they said there were only 50 golfers there that day (looked like more, so maybe they had some walk ons).
We had lunch afterwards in the clubhouse and the burgers and frys were good.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your experience with us. We hope we will see you back again!
