Southern Ridge Golf Club
About
Southern Ridge Golf Club, formerly known as Bougainvillea Golf Club, offers some of the most stunning views anywhere in the valley. The South and Estrella Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop to the golf course. Southern Ridge is known for more than its views though, it has a unique layout that combines six par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s. The championship course plays to 6,751 yards. It offers a good amount of length for long hitters but it is still player-friendly enough for beginners thanks to generous fairways and large, undulating greens. Although the fairways are wide, don't be lulled into a sense of security. They are flanked with more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are enough challenges for an interesting round but it's not an overly difficult golf course.

Good value
The course is in fairly good shape for the price. The layout has some challenging holes. Off the fairways is a little rough but I consider it a slight penalty for not hitting the ball straight - It is still playable and fair. Some greens have challenging terrain. No blind shots or real surprises: You see what you need to do. For the money, this is one of the best values/deals in the Greater Phoenix area during the costly winter months.
Greens and Fairways in nice shape
This course is really showing it's age and the need for a large infusion of maintenance money. However, in contrast to early winter conditions, the greens and fairways are in very nice condition. The employees are very pleasant. No complaints here when taking the fees into consideration. Good value for a practice round.
Good Course Great Value
The course is a hidden gem and a great value. The pace was very good. We finished in under 4 hours. Friendly staff. Some long par 5s and challenging par 3s. The bunkers are tough. It was a really fun round and I’ll play there again.
Course has great greens
The greens Good, not every hole had a ball washer if so no water or suds. Cart path poor with bumpy in and out. Water paddle in cart path. Real golfer don't play music on the Course.
Good value
Course is flat and wet most of the time. No starter so golfers work it out themselves.
The staff is great but, over worked.
Food is very good.
Good Value.
Sometimes over watered. Otherwise fairways and greens in good shape. Played a round in 3-1/2 hours.
Could be a lot nicer
I really like courses that offer an equal number of par 3 par 5 and par four holes. This course fits that bill and as long as you are in the Fairway and on the greens you are good. Where there course falls short is outside of those areas is very rough, often unkept and not golfing conditions. This course has changed hands many times and currently it feels like all of the maintenance is being done around the clubhouse. Also note that the driving range is virtually non-existent as the course does not own the land. There is a beat up patch to play off of but the landing area is not developed. Staff is friendly...no ranger
Inexpensive place to play
Minimal cost, pretty easy to find, easy check in, pretty open, one hole with water, tees fair, fairways fair , roughs with sparse grass and are hard, bunkers with minimal sand , greens putted pretty good and almost always not flat around the hole, carts are well used but work, drinking water on course, water buckets for towels, just could use lots of TLC
Club House
We finished golfing at 4:30 and the club house was locked up. Couldn't use the bathroom or get something to eat or drink. Wanted to get a drink and watch the last half hour of the PGA golf tourney. Had to hurry to get to McDonalds to use the rest room. Unbelievable!!!!
On the way up
I and my Sat golf buddy have been playing this course off and on for 9 plus years, course took a turn down a few years ago but have seen real improvement last year. I like the 3 par 3's, 4's and 5's per side. Could be a design idea for future courses.
Greens great
This course is pretty darn nice in the fairways and surrounding the greens.
Get off the fairway and you'll find the dirt- not desert- just bald dirt.
I will play here a few more times in the next month.
good course
they need more ball washers. you could go several holes without a ball washer. one washer was without water so it was useless. the traffic light at baseline is a ;plus. everything. else was excellent.
The course was in good shape
The pace of play was great and the weather was also great.
Southern Ridge golf
Golf was a last minute thought to practice our golf before playing 18 hole on Monday while vacationing from Montreal, Quebec. The staff were very friendly, and due to lack of golf carts available we decided to walk and carry our bags for the 9 holes. Wish the friendly staff would have mentioned how long a walk it was to get to the first hole though
Overall, we managed to have a great round and enjoyed their very good French fries that we brought home to accompany our chicken dinner.
Value
This is the best, reasonably priced course in the valley!
