Fun and Funky
It is a roller coaster ride of fun golf with a few funky holes in parts of the various canyons that were too narrow for actual golf holes. We played with a regular who gave us some very valuable tips on how to play a few of the holes. Holes 4 and 6 are very tight off the tee but playable if you are either very straight or just play smart shots. Some spectacular views on the back nine which is the better nine by far. Conditioning was very good, greens rolled nicely and overall we had a great time.
Still closing early?
I tried to play this course last summer in the afternoon. ANOTHER course closing early during the longest days of the year! TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! This early closing by courses in one of the most golf rich states in the country has to end!
Course Closes Early
Tried to play this course last summer for the second time and they closed early! NOT the case a few years earlier. But I see they are still pulling this. Take your money to a course that actually stays open the whole day.
Emerald Canyon costs
Course is in great shape and a must play. I would recommend calling the course direct for the time. We payed $15.00 over the standard course price and they wanted to charge an additional $10.00/ player because we booked 10 days out.
Fun, interesting and beautiful.
All I could think about when playing this unique course was, who would come out to this land and think what a great property to build a golf course. To say it is spread out would be an understatement. Great views and fun holes. Some may not like the layout. I am a pretty serious golfer and I thought it was a lot of fun. Need to be accurate off the tee, if not you will lose a lot of balls.
Overall review
Very nice golf course cut into the canyons along the Colorado river. I found this track very interesting and in overall good shape after reseeding. Greens were understandably a little slow but rolled pretty true. Would recommend a yardage book if available as there are some blind shots and some holes that knowing where to try and put your tee shot could save you some strokes. There are some breathtaking views on some of the tee boxes.
Usually one of my favorite courses! Not, when they're overseeding!
I was not informed that they were overseeding when I made my reservation! The greens were very rough and Sandy and almost impossible to putt on!
Wonderful
We had a great time! However, it was so hot (106)!
We will be back tomorrow and next year!
always enjoy emerald canyon!!
pretty lonely golf on this 118 degree day...friendly clubhouse...course is in very good summertime shape...I drove 2h20min to get there and it was worth it...if you've never played there and you're a golfer, put it on your list...it's one of the more unique courses you'll play...don't know how they keep this place in such good shape but it's a job well done....I'll be back
Beautiful Course, challenging tee shots
Great course, summer staff is usually friendly. Pace of play in the summer is incredible. Winter can be a bit of a challenge due to the amount of snowbirds. Staff in the winter can also be a bit troublesome. Course has a tendency to be a bit less friendly to younger golfers, however that seems to be improving. Overall good bargain, and stunning course.
Slow
Tee off solo and met up with 2nd on the third hole, 3 and 4th on the 5th hole. Backed up from there. 4:45 for 18 and not very many people on the course.. Everyone likes hole 17 but it stops play dead. I flagged down the player assistant and he turned and ran. I only recommend playing this course one time. After that go to Havasu City or Phoenix, or Orlando even.
The title Jewel of the desert suits this course
New year new pace of play. Played 18 in 4 hours 5 minutes. Course was in great shape. Staff was upbeat and attentive. Love the new carts. Simply beautiful.
Overrated... Ridiculous pace
We were so hopeful of a good round. The starter was busy & well organized. The parking lot and staging area really need a lot of work (very rough, not paved parking). Scenic, fairways in good condition, greens okay, some very odd holes that could be improved in order to make the play more enjoyable. Worst part - pace was 5.5 hours ( a new bad record for us!) . Seems that this is the time to make money for the course so very packed. Other golfers had told us they won't go back because of pace, now we join that group :(
Jewel?
This course advertises as a jewel in the desert. A very interesting course through canyon after canyon. Most balls will bounce down the sides but occasionally a ball with stay out. Pace of play surely ranks with the worst in the nation. Five and a half hours for 15 holes, and didn't finish as it was too dark to wait for the groups ahead of us. We only saw the marshal when it was time to turn in our carts. The beverage cart quit at 1pm. I'd like to play the entire course however, I will have to look for a better price or pace guarantee.
Different than most.
This golf course is a real gem. It's one of those courses that you play and never forget. If you find yourself in the area, do stop and treat yourself to a round of golf that will bring a smile to your face.
Overseed. Punching greens. Closing early in the summer. Arizona golf has gone way downhill. You get NO MORE golf during the course of a calendar year in Arizona than you would in a northern state like Montana or Michigan. I'll take my thousands a year I spend on golf and spend it on something else!
